Abstract

This document discusses, among other things, a user interface capable of resolving interactions between programmable parameters for operation of a personal medical device. Programming these devices is a difficult task when many parameters are involved. The medical device interface attempts to reduce and minimize constraint violations between interdependent parameters using an initial set of parameter values supplied by user (typically a physician) input, and constraint violations describing invalid parameter values. A user is given the option to select one or more parameters to remain constant. If possible, a set of parameter values with less egregious constraint violations is displayed to the user. A user is prompted to accept the set of parameter values and program the medical device.

Claims

1. A system for programming a multi-parameter programmable personal medical device, the system comprising:

a constraint violation comparison module configured to compare a first set of user-programmable parameter values against a plurality of interaction constraints to produce a first violation of one of the plurality of interaction constraints; and

an interaction resolution engine configured to;

determine, from the first set of parameter values, a second set of parameter values that reduces the first violation;

minimize, while creating the second set of parameter values, a degree of any other violations of the plurality of interaction constraints; and

minimize, while creating the second set of parameter values, an indication of a variation between the first and second sets of parameter values.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the interaction resolution engine is configured to determine the second set of parameter values that resolves the first violation.

3. The system of claim 1, including an acceptance selector configured to receive input indicating acceptance of the second set of parameter values for programming into the personal medical device.

4. The system of claim 1, including:

a multi-parameter programmable personal medical device; and

an external programmer configured to receive a stored measurement from the multi-parameter programmable personal medical device and to determine, automatically from the stored measurement, the first set of user-programmable parameter values.

5. The system of claim 1, including a prioritizing selector configured to receive selection of a high priority parameter;

and

wherein the interaction resolution engine is configured to hold the high priority parameter constant while determining the second set of parameter values.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the interaction resolution engine includes a weight of change analyzer module that determines a weight of change of the second set of parameter values with respect to the first set of parameter values.

7. The system of claim 6, including:

a memory circuit configured to store a plurality of candidate second set of parameter values; and

wherein the interaction resolution engine uses the weight of change analyzer to classify each of the plurality of candidate second set of parameter values with respect the first set of parameter values.

8. The system of claim 1, including an external programmer configured to receive a selection of a target interaction constraint;

and

wherein the interaction resolution engine is configured to determine, by modifying only parameters, of the first set of parameter values, that affect the target interaction constraint, a second set of parameter values that reduces the first violation.

9. A system for programming a multi-parameter programmable personal medical device, the system comprising:

a constraint violation comparison module configured to compare a first set of user-programmable parameter values against a plurality of interaction constraints to produce a first violation of one of the plurality of interaction constraints; and

an interaction resolution engine configured to;

determine, from the first set of parameter values, a second set of parameter values that reduces or resolves the first violation; and

minimize, while creating the second set of parameter values, a weight of change, with respect to the first set of parameter values, of the second set of parameter values.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the interaction resolution engine is configured to determine the second set of parameter values that resolves the first violation.

11. The system of claim 9, including an input device configured to request redefinition of the first set of parameter values when the interaction resolution engine fails to present an acceptable second set of parameter values.

12. The system of claim 9, including an input device is configured to receive a fixed parameter interaction constraint selection;

and

wherein the interaction resolution engine is configured to determine the second set of parameter values based on modifying only parameters that affect the fixed parameter interaction constraint.

13. The system of claim 9, wherein the interaction resolution engine is configured to:

create a plurality of candidate sets of parameter values; and

determine a weight of change, with respect to the first set of parameter values, for each candidate set of parameter values.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the interaction resolution engine is configured to select, as the second set of parameter values, a set of parameter values, of the plurality of candidate sets of parameter values, with the lowest weight of change with respect to the first set of parameter values.

15. The system of claim 13, wherein the interaction resolution engine is configured to determine the second set of parameter values using a pre-defined maximum number of candidate sets of parameter values.

16. The system of claim 13, wherein the interaction resolution engine is configured to determine a set of parameter values, of the plurality of candidate sets of parameter values, that contains no constraint violations.

17. A method comprising:

comparing the first set of parameter values against a plurality of interaction constraints to produce a first violation of one of the plurality of interaction constraints; and

determining, using one or more processors, a second set of parameter values that reduces the first violation, the determining including;

minimizing a degree of any other violations of the plurality of interaction constraints; and

minimizing an indication of a variation between the first and second set of parameter values.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein determining the second set of parameter values includes determining a second set of parameter values that resolves the first violation.

19. The method of claim 17, including:

receiving an indication of acceptance of the second set of parameter values; and

sending the second set of parameter values to a multi-parameter programmable medical device.

20. The method of claim 17, including:

receiving a measurement from a multi-parameter programmable medical device; and

determining, using the measurement, the first set of parameter values.

21. The method of claim 17, including:

receiving a selection of a high priority parameter; and

wherein determining the second set of parameter values holds the high priority parameter constant.

22. The method of claim 17, wherein determining the second set of parameter values includes determining a weight of change of the second set of parameter values with respect to the first set of parameter values.

23. The method of claim 17, wherein determining the second set of parameter values includes:

creating a plurality of candidate sets of parameter values; and

classifying, using a weight of change with respect to the first set of parameter values, each candidate set of parameter values.

24. The method of claim 17, including:

receiving a selection of a target interaction constraint; and

wherein determining the second set of parameter values includes modifying only parameters, of the first set of parameter values, that affect the target interaction constraint.
