Abstract

The present specification provides application integration in networked computing devices. An embodiment includes a mobile computing device having a message application that includes a programming interface. The mobile computing device also has a second message application that creates a connection with the message application through the programming interface. Messages that are associated with the second message application can be accessed through the message application, with optional invocation of the second message application via the message application.

Claims

1. A method of application integration in a networked computing device comprising:

providing an application interface between a message application and a secondary application on said device;

receiving a message associated with said secondary application through said message application;

managing said message via an instruction from said secondary application to said message application via said application interface.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising initially receiving said message via said secondary application and then causing said message to be received through said message application.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein said managing comprises moving said message into a folder within said message application via said instruction.

4. The method of claim 3 wherein said managing further comprises creating said folder within said message application via said instruction prior to said moving.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein said managing comprises identifying said message within said message application as being associated with said secondary application.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprises invoking said secondary application from said message application to perform said further action.

7. The method of claim 6 further comprising, prior to said invoking, determining whether further action from said secondary application is required, and performing said invoking if said further action is required.

8. The method of claim 7 wherein said message comprises an indicium and said determining is based at least in part on said indicium.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein said message application is a primary email application native to said computing device.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein said secondary application is a social networking application.

11. A computing device comprising:

a network interface for connecting to a network;

non-volatile storage configured to maintain a message application and a secondary application and an application interface between said a message application and said secondary application;

a processor interconnecting said network interface and said non-volatile storage;

said processor configured to execute said message application such that a message received through said network interface that is associated with said secondary application is processed through said message application.

12. The computing device of claim 11 wherein said processor is further configured to execute said secondary application such that said message is managed within said message application via an instruction from said secondary application to said message application via said application interface.

13. The computing device of claim 11 wherein processor is configured such that said secondary application initially receives said message via said secondary application and then causes said message to be received through said message application.

14. The computing device of claim 11 wherein processor is configured to implement said processing by moving said message into a folder within said message application.

15. The computing device of claim 14 wherein processor is configured to implement said processing by creating said folder within said message application prior to said moving.

16. The computing device of claim 11 wherein said processor is configured to electronically identify said message within said message application as being associated with said secondary application.

17. The computing device of claim 11 wherein said processor is further configured to perform an invocation of said secondary application from said message application.

18. The computing device of claim 17 wherein said processor is further configured, prior to said invocation, to determine whether further action from said secondary application is required.

19. The computing device of claim 18 wherein said message comprises an electronic indicium and said determining is based at least in part on said indicium.

20. The computing device of claim 11 wherein said message application is a primary email application native to said computing device.

21. The computing device of claim 11 wherein said secondary application is a social networking application.

22. A computer readable medium containing a plurality of programming instructions executable on a processor of a computing device;

such that when said programming instructions are executed said computing device is configured to;

provide an application interface between a message application and a secondary application on said device;

receive a message associated with said secondary application through said message application;

manage said message via an instruction from said secondary application to said message application via said application interface.
