Abstract

The present invention relates to the constitutive activity of the Hedgehog pathway in non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). A method for diagnosing NSCLC by detecting the level of a component of the Hedgehog pathway is provided, as is a method for identifying subjects that will respond positively to treatment with a Hedgehog pathway antagonist. Methods for treating subjects with cancer or cancers resistant to Hedgehog pathway antagonists are also provided.

Claims

1. A method of extracting publications relevant to a reference entity, comprising the steps of:

generating an initial set of publications;

associating the initial set of publications with a database to generate a user-engageable display of at least one element relating to the at least one publication such that the at least one element is a required characteristic of the at least one publication in accordance with a predetermined standard of analysis;

selecting at least a first element from the at least one element that represents a characteristic not present in the reference entity;

yielding a result including publications in the initial set and excluding publications relating to the selected at least a first element in accordance with the predetermined standard of analysis.

2. A method of extracting publications as in claim 1, wherein the publications comprise patent publications.

3. A method of extracting publications as in claim 2, wherein the predetermined standard of analysis comprises patent infringement analysis.

4. A method of extracting publications relevant to a reference entity, as in claim 1, wherein the initial set of publications comprises at least one publication that does not correlate to any element of the database.

5. A method of extracting publications, as in claim 1, wherein the step of selecting at least a first element further comprising:

generating a set of selected elements of an existing result of a second reference entity;

unselecting at least one element of the existing result.

6. A method of generating a data structure, on computer-readable medium, for selective elimination of publications, comprising the steps of:

applying at least one annotation correlating to at least one element of at least one publication, the at least one element relating to the at least one publication such that the at least one element is a required characteristic of the at least one publication in accordance with a predetermined standard of analysis;

storing the at least one annotation with a correlated publication identification in a first data storage module.

7. The method of generating a data structure as in claim 6, wherein the at least one publication comprises a patent publication.

8. A method of generating a data structure as in claim 7, wherein the predetermined standard of analysis comprises patent infringement analysis.

9. A method of generating a data structure, as in claims 6, further comprising the steps of:

correlating at least a first annotation of the first data storage module to at least a first product, such that the at least a first annotation relates to a characteristic of the at least a first product;

storing the at least a first annotation and the correlated product in a second data storage module.

A method of generating a data structure, as in claim 6, further comprising the step of applying a first annotation and a second annotation to a first element such that the element is correlated to the concurrence of the first and second annotation, and not correlated to either the first or second annotation alone.

11. A method of generating a data structure, as in claim 6, wherein the at least one annotations are organized in a hierarchy according to the predetermined standard of analysis.

12. A method of generating a data structure, as in claim 6, further comprising the step of creating at least a first annotation not correlated to any element.

14. A list of resulting publications as in claim 12, wherein the resulting publications comprise patent publications.

15. A list of resulting publications as in claim 12, wherein said predetermined standard of analysis comprises patent infringement analysis.

13. A list of resulting publications generated by a computer-implemented method, comprising the steps of:

generating an initial set of publications;

associating the initial set of publications with a database to generate a user-engageable display of at least one element relating to the at least one publication such that the at least one element is a required characteristic of the at least one publication in accordance with a predetermined standard of analysis;

selecting at least a first element from the at least one element that represents a characteristic not present in the reference entity;

yielding a result including publications in the initial set and excluding publications relating to the selected at least a first element;
