Abstract

A receiver is capable of demodulating both high data rate and low data rate transmissions. An antenna receives the high and low data rate transmissions, as a received signal. An interference canceling device cancels a contribution of at least one shared/common channel from the received signal, producing a first interference canceled signal. A first data detector for detecting data of one of the high or low data rate transmissions by processing the first interference canceled signal. An interference canceling device for canceling the detected data of the one transmissions from the first interference canceled signal, producing a second interference canceled signal. A second data detector for detecting data of an other of the high or low data rate transmissions from the second interference canceled signal.

Claims

1. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising:

at least one antenna configured to receive a wireless data transmission; and

a receiver, the receiver comprising;

a high data rate data detection device configured to detect high data rate symbols in the received wireless data transmission;

an interference construction device configured to determine the contribution of the high data rate symbols to the received wireless data transmission;

a subtractor configured to subtract the contribution of the high data rate symbols from the received wireless data transmission to produce a high data rate cancelled vector; and

a low data rate data detection device configured to detect low data rate symbols from the high data rate cancelled vector.

2. The WTRU of claim 1, the receiver further comprising at least one common/shared channel interference construction device, configured to determine the contribution of at least one common/shared channel to the received wireless data transmission;

and

the subtractor further configured to subtract the contribution of the at least one common/shared channel to the received wireless data transmission to produce an interference cancelled vector, wherein the high speed data detection device detects the high data rate symbols in the interference cancelled vector.

3. The WTRU of claim 2, wherein the at least one common/shared channel comprises at least one of a paging indicator channel, a common pilot channel, a primary common control physical channel, a secondary common control physical channel, and a high-speed shared control channel.

4. The WTRU of claim 1, wherein the high data rate symbols are high speed downlink packet access symbols.

5. The WTRU of claim 1, wherein the low data rate symbols are code division multiple access 2000 (CDMA2000) dedicated channel symbols.

6. The WTRU of claim 1, wherein the channel interference construction device is a subtractive interference canceller.

7. The WTRU of claim 1, wherein the received wireless data transmission comprises signals from a plurality of cells.

8. A method of receiving a wireless data transmission containing a low data rate communication and a high data rate communication, the method comprising:

receiving a combined communication signal comprising at least one low data rate communication and at least one high data rate communication;

detecting the at least one high data rate communication;

determining the contribution of the high data rate communication to the received wireless data transmission;

subtracting the contribution of the high data rate communication from the received wireless data transmission to produce a high data rate cancelled vector; and

detecting the low data rate communication based on the high data rate cancelled vector.

9. The method of claim 8, further comprising:

detecting the contribution of at least one common/shared channel to the received wireless data communication;

subtracting the contribution of the at least one common/shared channel from the received wireless data communication to produce an interference cancelled vector, wherein detecting the high speed data rate communication is performed based on the interference cancelled vector.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the at least one common/shared channel comprises at least one of a paging indicator channel, a common pilot channel, a primary common control physical channel, a secondary common control physical channel, and a high-speed shared control channel.

11. The method of claim 8, wherein the high data rate symbols are high speed downlink packet access symbols.

12. The method of claim 8, wherein the low data rate symbols are code division multiple access 2000 (CDMA2000) dedicated channel symbols.

13. The method of claim 8, wherein the channel interference construction device is a subtractive interference canceller.

14. The method of claim 8, wherein the received wireless data transmission comprises signals from a plurality of cells.
