Abstract

In at least one embodiment, a data processing system receives from a user device a query regarding a dining decision, where the query includes a location. At least one menu item at a restaurant proximate to the location is determined based upon at least one user-specific criterion, and the at least one menu item is transmitted to the user device.

Claims

1. A method in a data processing system including a portable user device in communication with a fitness monitor and a user training database, the method comprising:

storing user activity data in the user training database;

transmitting from the user device to a remote computer system over a communications network a query regarding a dining decision, the query including a location and a caloric expenditure associated with the user activity data;

receiving the query at the remote computer system;

determining at least one menu item at a restaurant proximate to the location based upon the caloric expenditure; and

transmitting the at least one menu item to the user device.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the user activity data comprises planned activity data.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the user activity data comprises completed activity data.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of receiving at the user device user activity data from the fitness monitor.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the fitness monitor comprises a heart rate monitor.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of associating a caloric expenditure with the user activity data.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of increasing the size of a proximity zone relative to the location in response to a query from the user device.

8. A method in a data processing system including a portable user device in communication with a fitness monitor and a user training database, the method comprising:

receiving at the user device user activity data from the fitness monitor;

storing the user activity data in the user training database;

transmitting from the user device to a remote computer system over a communications network a query regarding a dining decision, the query including a proximity zone and the user activity data;

receiving the query at the remote computer system;

determining at least one menu item at a restaurant within the proximity zone based on the user activity data; and

transmitting the at least one menu item to the user device.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the fitness monitor comprises a heart rate monitor.

10. The method of claim 8, wherein the fitness monitor comprises a watch.

11. The method of claim 8, wherein the user activity data includes heart rate data.

12. The method of claim 8, wherein the user activity data includes body temperature data.

13. The method of claim 8, wherein the step of determining at least one menu item based on the user activity data includes the steps of:

associating a caloric expenditure with the user activity data; and

determining at least one menu item based on the associated caloric expenditure.

14. A portable training system, comprising:

a fitness monitor;

a training database; and

a portable user device comprising;

a global positioning system (GPS) receiver, and

a processor coupled to the fitness monitor and the GPS receiver,

wherein the processor receives location data from the GPS receiver and user activity data from the fitness monitor and stores the user activity data in the training database, and transmits to a remote computer system over a communications network a query regarding a dining decision, the query including the location data and a caloric expenditure associated with the user activity data.
