Abstract

In an embodiment, a method is provided for creating a personal animated entity for delivering a multi-media message from a sender to a recipient. An image file from the sender may be received by a server. The image file may include an image of an entity. The sender may be requested to provide input with respect to facial features of the image of the entity in preparation for animating the image of the entity. After the sender provides the input with respect to the facial features of the image of the entity, the image of the entity may be presented as a personal animated entity to the sender to preview. Upon approval of the preview from the sender, the image of the entity may be presented as a sender-selectable personal animated entity for delivering the multi-media message to the recipient.

Claims

1. A system for delivering a multi-media message having a personal animated entity from a sender to a recipient, the system comprising:

a processor;

a module configured to control the processor to receive an image file from a sender, wherein the image file includes marked facial features for creating a personal animated entity;

a module configured to present a preview of the personal animated entity to the sender; and

a module configured to, upon approval of the preview from the sender, deliver a multi-media message to a recipient including the personal animated entity as a sender-selectable personal animated entity.

The system of claim 1, wherein upon approval of the preview from the sender, and when the sender begins a process of preparing the multi-media message, the system further comprises a module configured to control the processor to present a plurality of images of entities including the sender selectable personal animated entity for delivering the multi-media message to the recipient and wherein the sender selects one of the presented plurality of images for delivering the multi-media message.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the image file further includes a background.

4. The system of claim 3, further comprising a module configured to control the processor to present the sender with an option to include the background from the image file with the personal animated entity when the multi-media message is delivered to the recipient.

5. The system of claim 4, wherein the animated entity is blended with an uncovered background region when the personal animated entity moves during delivery of the multi-media message to the recipient.

6. The system of claim 4, wherein boundaries of the personal animated entity are smoothed by blending pets of the personal animated entity with pets of the background.

7. The system of claim 4, wherein an image signal is extrapolated into uncovered background areas due to movement of the personal animated entity during delivery of the multi-media message.

8. The system of claim 7, wherein the extrapolation includes using a method based on projection into convex sets.

9. The system of claim 7, wherein the extrapolation includes using signal repetition.

10. The system of claim 1, further comprising a module configured to control the processor to create the personal animated entity by performing steps comprising:

selecting, by the sender, one of the plurality of animated entities including the personal animated entity created by the sender;

selecting, by the sender, a voice for the selected one of the animated entities; and

delivering the multi-media message to the recipient using the selected one of the animated entities and the selected voice.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein the module configured to control the processor to create the personal animated entity further causes the processor to perform steps comprising:

modifying, by the sender, the voice of the selected animated entity; and

delivering the multi-media message to the recipient using a selected one of the animated entities and the modified voice.

12. The system of claim 10, wherein the module configured to control the processor create the personal animated entity further causes the processor to perform steps comprising:

selecting, by the sender, an image to use as a background image; and

delivering the multi-media message to the recipient using the selected one of the animated entities, wherein the selected one of the animated entities appears to be included as part of the background image when delivering the multi-media message.

13. The system of claim 11, further comprising a module configured to control the processor to receive input from the sender regarding a symmetry axis for the entity.

14. A computer-readable storage medium storing instructions which, when executed by a computing device, cause the computing device to deliver a multi-media message having a personal animated entity from a sender to a recipient, the instructions comprising

receiving an image file from a sender, wherein the image file includes marked facial features for creating a personal animated entity;

presenting a preview of the personal animated entity to the sender; and

upon approval of the preview from the sender, delivering a multi-media message to a recipient including the personal animated entity as a sender-selectable personal animated entity.

The computer-readable storage medium of claim 14, wherein upon approval of the preview from the sender, and when the sender begins a process of preparing the multi-media message, the system further comprises a module configured to control the processor to present a plurality of images of entities including the sender selectable personal animated entity for delivering the multi-media message to the recipient and wherein the sender selects one of the presented plurality of images for delivering the multi-media message.

16. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 14, wherein the image file further includes a background.

17. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 16, further comprising instructions to present the sender with an option to include the background from the image file with the personal animated entity when the multi-media message is delivered to the recipient.

18. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein the animated entity is blended with an uncovered background region when the personal animated entity moves during delivery of the multi-media message to the recipient.

19. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein boundaries of the personal animated entity are smoothed by blending pets of the personal animated entity with pets of the background.

20. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein an image signal is extrapolated into uncovered background areas due to movement of the personal animated entity during delivery of the multi-media message.
