Abstract

A server device of a communication system provides a web interface to allow a user to modify user interface settings and contact information. The server device communicates the modified settings and contact information to the mobile communication device via a wireless communication network. Accordingly, the user can conveniently configure user interface settings, such as ring tones, alarm settings, or the like, via a web interface, rather than through a cumbersome interface at the mobile communication device. In addition, the user interface settings are communicated to the mobile communication device via the same wireless communication network that carries voice data. Thus, the user interface of the mobile communication device, as well as the stored contact information, can be updated without requiring the user to connect the device to a computer.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

receiving a request to update a mobile communication device;

in response to the request;

accessing a user interface profile comprising a plurality of user interface settings for the mobile communication device;

accessing a stored contact list comprising a plurality of contact information; and

communicating the user interface profile and the stored contact list to a wireless communication network for provision to the mobile communication device.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the user interface settings comprise a ring tone setting.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the user interface settings comprise an alarm setting.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the user interface settings comprise a mobile game setting.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the user interface settings comprise a screen brightness setting.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the request comprises receiving the request in response to expiration of a defined period of time.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the request comprises receiving the request in response to a user request at the mobile communication device.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the request comprises receiving the request via the wireless communication network.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the request comprises receiving identification information for the mobile communication device, and further comprising:

determining a data format based on the identification information;

wherein communicating the user interface profile comprises converting the user interface profile to the data format.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the user interface profile is user-programmable via a web interface.

11. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

communicating data via the wireless network in response to the request, the data selected from the group consisting of;

a text message, a picture, video data, audio data, music data and a voice recording.

12. A method, comprising:

receiving a request to update a plurality of mobile communication devices associated with a user;

in response to the request, accessing a user interface profile comprising a plurality of user interface settings for the plurality of mobile communication devices; and

communicating the user interface profile to a wireless communication network for provision to each of the plurality of mobile communication devices.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the plurality of mobile communication devices comprises a first mobile communication device and a second mobile communication device, and wherein communicating the user interface profile comprises:

determining a first device type associated with the first mobile communication device;

converting the user interface profile to a first data format to determine a first converted user interface profile, the first data format based on the first device type; and

communicating the first converted user interface profile to the wireless communication network.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein communicating the user interface profile further comprises:

determining a second device type associated with the second mobile communication device;

converting the user interface profile to a first second format to determine a second converted user interface profile, the first data format based on the first device type the second data format based on the second device type; and

communicating the second converted user interface profile to the wireless communication network.

15. A method, comprising:

receiving a first request to update a mobile communication device;

in response to the first request, communicating a second request via a wireless communication network;

in response to the second request, receiving via the wireless communication network a user interface profile comprising a plurality of user interface settings for the mobile communication device; and

in response to the second request, receiving via the wireless communication network a stored contact list comprising a plurality of contact information.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the user interface settings comprise a ring tone setting.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein the user interface settings comprise an alarm setting.

18. The method of claim 15, wherein receiving the request comprises receiving the first request in response to expiration of a defined period of time.

19. The method of claim 15, wherein receiving the first request comprises receiving the first request in response to a user interaction with the mobile communication device.

20. A method, comprising:

communicating first information indicative of a web interface;

receiving second information indicative of a user-interaction with the web interface;

in response to the second information, updating a user interface profile comprising a plurality of user interface settings for a mobile communication device; and

communicating the user interface profile to a wireless communication network for provision to the mobile communication device.

21. The method of claim 20, further comprising:

in response to the second information, updating a stored contact list comprising a plurality of contact information; and

communicating the stored contact list to the wireless communication network for provision to the mobile communication device.

22. The method of claim 20, wherein the plurality of user interface settings comprises a ring tone setting.

23. The method of claim 20, wherein the plurality of user interface settings comprises an alarm setting.

24. A mobile communication device, comprising:

a wireless interface configured to receive user interface settings associated with the mobile communication device from a wireless network, wherein the user interface settings have been programmed via a web interface;

a memory configured to store the user interface settings and configured to store a user interface program;

a processor configured to execute the user interface program based on the user interface settings.
