Abstract

Techniques for displaying an image are provided.

Claims

1. An apparatus for displaying an image, comprising:

a base capable of supporting an object, the base having a base arm;

a camera system coupled to the base arm, the camera system configured to capture a plurality of images of the object;

an illumination system having a plurality of illuminators configured to illuminate the object;

an illuminator control system configured to control the plurality of illuminators; and

a focus control system configured to adjust a focus of the camera system.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the illuminator control system is configured to energize and de-energize the plurality of illuminators and is configured to control the camera system to capture an image of the object while at least some of the illuminators are energized.

3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the illuminators are capable of being individually energized and de-energized.

4. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein the camera system is further configured to select a pixel from respective pixels of the plurality of images of the object until all pixels of the image are selected.

5. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein configured to select a pixel comprises configured to select a pixel from respective pixels of the plurality of images of the object based at least in part on brightness of the respective pixels.

6. The apparatus of claim 5, wherein the brightness of the respective pixels comprises an average brightness of the respective pixels.

7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the camera system is further capable of forming an image corresponding to the object based on the selected pixels.

8. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the focus control system is further capable of causing the camera system to capture the plurality of images of the object at a plurality of focal distances, each image corresponding to a respective one of the plurality of focal distances.

9. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the base is capable of being moved to adjust the focus of the camera system.

10. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the camera system is further configured to select a pixel from respective pixels of the plurality of images of the object until all pixels of the image are selected.

11. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein configured to select a pixel comprises configured to select a pixel in response to a focus measurement.

12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the camera system is further configured to generate the focus measurement at least in part by calculating a Sum-Modified-Laplacian (SML).

13. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the camera system is further capable of forming an image corresponding to the object based on the selected pixels.

14. A method for displaying an image, comprising:

capturing a plurality of images of an object;

comparing respective pixels of the plurality of images;

selecting at least a pixel from the respective pixels of at least some of the plurality of the images;

forming an image from the selected pixels; and

outputting the image.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein capturing the plurality of images of the object comprises capturing images of the object by individually energizing and de-energizing a plurality of illuminators.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein comparing respective pixels of the plurality of images comprises comparing brightness of the respective pixels of the plurality of images.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the brightness of the selected pixels comprises an average brightness of the respective pixels of the plurality of images.

18. The method of claim 14, wherein capturing the plurality of images of the object comprises changing focal distance at predetermined times.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein selecting at least one pixel from the respective pixels of at least some of the plurality of the images comprises selecting the at least one pixel in response to a focus measurement.

20. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein the selecting the at least one pixel in response to a focus measurement comprises using a Sum-Modified-Laplacian (SML).

21. A processor-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to control an apparatus to perform a method comprising:

capturing a plurality of images of an object;

comparing respective pixels of the plurality of images;

selecting at least one pixel from the respective pixels of at least some of the plurality of the images;

forming an image from the selected pixels; and

outputting the image.
