Abstract

A mobile terminal includes a touchscreen configured to display a scroll region having a scroll bar at a portion of a displayed view and a controller configured to perform at least one function in response to a touch input received at the scroll region, the touch input including a first touch action in a first axial direction and a second touch action in a second axial direction, wherein a first function is performed in response to the first touch action, the first function being scrolling the displayed view and the first touch action being moving the scroll bar in the first axial direction along the scroll region and a second function is performed in response to the second touch action, the second function being a function that is different from the first function.

Claims

1. A mobile terminal comprising:

a touchscreen configured to display a scroll region having a scroll bar at a portion of a displayed view; and

a controller configured to perform at least one function in response to a touch input received at the scroll region, the touch input comprising a first touch action in a first axial direction and a second touch action in a second axial direction,

wherein a first function is performed in response to the first touch action, the first function being scrolling the displayed view and the first touch action being moving the scroll bar in the first axial direction along the scroll region and a second function is performed in response to the second touch action, the second function differing from the first function.

2. The mobile terminal of claim 1, wherein the first axial direction is a vertical direction when the second axial direction is a horizontal direction or the first axial direction is a horizontal direction when the second axial direction is a vertical direction.

3. The mobile terminal of claim 1, wherein the second function is controlling a size of the displayed view.

4. The mobile terminal of claim 3, wherein the displayed view is resized responsive to the second touch action and returns to its original size when the first touch action is subsequently applied after the second touch action.

5. The mobile terminal of claim 3, wherein a size of a specific portion of the displayed view is controlled when the second touch action is applied at a specific portion of the scroll region corresponding to the specific portion of the displayed view.

The mobile terminal of claim 3, wherein an upper portion of the displayed view is resized when the second touch action is applied across an upper portion of the scroll region corresponding to the upper portion of the displayed view and a lower portion of the displayed view is resized when the second touch action is applied across a lower portion of the scroll region corresponding to the lower portion of the displayed view.

7. The mobile terminal of claim 1, wherein the second action comprises touching a point outside the scroll region and dragging or flicking across the scroll region to the other side of the scroll region.

8. The mobile terminal of claim 7, wherein the scroll bar is touched when dragging across the scroll region.

9. The mobile terminal of claim 7, wherein a different function is executed depending on a portion of the scroll region to which the dragging is applied.

10. The mobile terminal of claim 1, wherein the displayed view displays a list, an image, a plurality of icons, a plurality of thumbnail images, or a message.

11. The mobile terminal of claim 1, wherein the first axial direction and the second axial direction cross each other and the first function is switched to the second function when the second touch action is received.

12. The mobile terminal of claim 1, wherein the displayed view displays a broadcast, still picture view, moving picture playback, phonebook, message, call history view, webpage access, text view, or menu list view.

13. The mobile terminal of claim 1, wherein the displayed view is related to a still picture view menu and the controller is configured to display at least two thumbnail type images on the touchscreen.

14. The mobile terminal of claim 13, wherein the controller is further configured to control a size of at least one of the at least two thumbnail type images.

15. The mobile terminal of claim 13, wherein the controller is further configured to activate the at least one of the at least two thumbnail type images when the at least one of the at least two thumbnail type images is selected by touch input.

16. The mobile terminal of claim 15, wherein the activated at least one of the at least two thumbnail type images is enlarged.

17. The mobile terminal of claim 1, further comprising a wireless communication unit, wherein the displayed view is a webpage and the controller is further configured to generate a cursor on the webpage in response to a predefined input and move the cursor in the first axial direction when the scroll bar is touched and dragged in the first axial direction while the cursor is displayed on the touch screen.

The mobile terminal of claim 1, wherein the displayed view is related to a moving picture playback, and the first function is scrolling a moving picture such that the moving picture is repositioned at a new frame of the moving picture corresponding to a dragged position of the scroll bar in the scroll region.

19. The mobile terminal of claim 18, wherein the second function is a resizing of the moving picture, volume adjustment of the moving picture, brightness adjustment, key frame shift of moving picture, or micro scroll adjustment of the moving picture.

20. The mobile terminal of claim 1, wherein the displayed view is a menu list listing at least two menu items and scaling size of the displayed menu list is adjusted in response to the second touch action.

21. The mobile terminal of claim 20, wherein the controller is further configured to adjust a size of at least one menu item in the menu list in response to selection of the at least one menu item and manipulation of the scroll bar after the selection of the at least one menu item.

22. The mobile terminal of claim 21, wherein the controller is further configured to execute a function corresponding to the at least one menu item selected by touching.

23. The mobile terminal of claim 1, wherein the displayed view is related to a message menu and the second function is resizing the displayed message menu, viewing a relevant message, deleting a message, selecting a message, converting a character type to be input, or viewing a stored picture of a correspondent party corresponding to a selected message.

The mobile terminal of claim 1, wherein the displayed view is related to a call history view menu and the second function is a deleting of an item in call history, storing information of an item in the call history, or viewing a picture of a correspondent party corresponding to an item in the call history.

25. A method of controlling in a device comprising a touchscreen, wherein the touchscreen displays a scroll region with a scroll bar at a portion of a view displayed on the touchscreen, the method comprising:

performing a first function in response to a first touch action, the first function being scrolling the displayed view and the first touch action being moving the scroll bar in a first axial direction within the scroll region; and

performing a second function in response to a second touch action, the second function differing from the first function,

wherein at least one of the first function and second function is performed in response to a touch input received at the scroll region, the touch input comprising the first touch action in the first axial direction and the second touch action in a second axial direction.

26. The method of claim 25, wherein the first axial direction and the second axial direction cross each other and the first function is switched to the second function when the second touch action is received.

27. The method of claim 26, wherein the second action comprises touching a point outside the scroll region and dragging or flicking across the scroll region.

28. The method of claim 27, wherein the second action further comprises dragging or flicking across the scroll bar.

29. A method of controlling a mobile terminal, the method comprising:

displaying a scroll region extending in a first direction and a scroll bar provided within the scroll region on a touchscreen in a prescribed menu;

scrolling an image displayed on the touchscreen when the scroll bar is touched and dragged in the first direction or a direction opposite to the first direction; and

executing a function related to the prescribed menu when at least one of the scroll region and the scroll bar is touched and dragged in a second direction or a direction opposite to the second direction differing from the first direction and the direction opposite to the first direction.
