Abstract

Disclosed herein is a combination of workflow management tools to make up a logical system that supports the needs of both simple and complex workflow environments. Team members may access a central database to collaborate on a project via user interfaces with work item functionality, such as creation, reporting, performance, updates, and communications. Select management of work items may be automated. Work items may represent server-oriented tasks and sub-tasks and may be ticketed and tracked. A knowledge base may provide help for the system application, such as online or live access to access helpful information. In an example embodiment, the workflow management tools are implemented to support the creation of a Video Hub Office project.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method for managing workflow, the method comprising:

managing work items associated to a first and second server, wherein the work items are managed in a hierarchical arrangement based on the server associated to each work item;

storing information related to the work items in a central location, wherein a user interface may provide access to the information from any component networked to the central location;

launching at least one script to manage the work items, wherein the script integrates system automation into the management of the work items; and

providing access to a knowledge base with help features related to managing the work items.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein managing work items is performed via a ticketing system, where a ticket is assigned to a work item and stores and tracks the status of the work item.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the user interface may be a user interface for at least one of the following:

task creation, task performance, task reporting, or communication of information related to the work items.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the user interface is adapted such that a user can dynamically change a time line of the work items.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein a project is defined by a combination of work items associated to multiple servers, and completion of the work items represents completion of the project.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the project is a Video Hub Office project.

7. The method of claim 1, launching at least one script to manage the work items, wherein the script integrates system automation into the management of the work items;

and

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the method of managing workflow comprises initiating, tracking, and storing work items, providing interdepartmental communication, accountability, knowledge retention, and automation.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising logging issues and tracking the issues to resolution, wherein information about the logging and tracking is transferred to a knowledge database.

11. The central server of claim 8, wherein the workflow module has a ticketing system, where a ticket is assigned to a work item and stores and tracks the status of the work item.

12. The central server of claim 8, wherein the user interface module may comprise at least one of the following:

task creation, task performance, task reporting, or communication of information related to the work items.

13. The central server of claim 8, wherein the user interface module is adapted such that a user can dynamically change a time line of the work items.

14. The central server of claim 8, wherein a project is defined by a combination of work items associated to multiple servers, and completion of the work items represents completion of the project.

15. The central server of claim 8 of claim 12, wherein the project is a Video Hub Office project.

16. The central server of claim 8, wherein managing workflow comprises initiating, tracking, and storing work items, providing interdepartmental communication, accountability, knowledge retention, and automation.

17. The central server of claim 8, further comprising a scripting module for launching at least one script to manage the work items, wherein the script integrates system automation into the management of the work items;

and

18. The central server of claim 8, further comprising a logging and tracking module for logging issues and tracking the issues to resolution, wherein information about the logging and tracking is transferred to the knowledge database.

20. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein managing work items is performed via a ticketing system, where a ticket is assigned to a work item and stores and tracks the status of the work item.

21. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein the user interface may be a user interface for at least one of the following:

task creation, task performance, task reporting, or communication of information related to the work items.

22. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein the user interface is adapted such that a user can dynamically change a time line of the work items.

23. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein a project is defined by a combination of work items associated to multiple servers, and completion of the work items represents completion of the project.

25. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein the method of managing workflow comprises initiating, tracking, and storing work items, providing interdepartmental communication, accountability, knowledge retention, and automation.

26. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein the method further comprises launching at least one script to manage the work items, wherein the script integrates system automation into the management of the work items;

and

27. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein the method further comprises logging issues and tracking the issues to resolution, wherein information about the logging and tracking is transferred to a knowledge database.

10. A central server for managing workflow over a network, the system comprising

a computing processor

a computing memory communicatively coupled with the computing processor comprising:

a workflow module for managing work items associated to a first and second server, wherein the work items are managed in a hierarchical arrangement based on the server associated to each work item;

a user interface module for accessing information related to the work items stored in the computing memory, wherein a user interface may provide access to the information from any component networked to the central location;

a knowledge base module providing access to a knowledge database with help features related to managing the work items.

an automation module for launching at least one script to manage the work items, wherein the script integrates system automation into the management of the work items.

19. A computer-readable storage medium having stored thereon computer-executable instructions adapted to perform a method of managing workflow in a multiple-server project, the method comprising:

managing work items associated to a first and second server, wherein the work items are managed in a hierarchical arrangement based on the server associated to each work item;

storing information related to the work items in a central location, wherein a user interface may provide access to the information from any component networked to the central location;

launching at least one script to manage the work items, wherein the script integrates system automation into the management of the work items; and

providing access to a knowledge base with help features related to managing the work items.

24. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 19, wherein the project is a Video Hub Office project.
