Abstract

Real-time delivery of multimedia content puts extreme demand on both computational and network resources. Many a times, the requirement is to handle multiple such delivery requirements and as a consequence, the overall delivery efficiency gets affected. Another dimension of complexity is that (a) the multimedia content to be delivered may not always be highly reliable, and (b) the network may also be not highly reliable. In such a situation, it becomes even more difficult to satisfy the quality of service requirements. When content to be delivered to multiple destinations is available at multiple sources, there is an opportunity to overcome the above mentioned complexity. The system and method for efficient delivery in a multi-source multi-destination network involves pulling of data from the multiple sources by measuring quality of service and reliability parameters, and efficiently loading the systems and the network in a cooperative manner.

Claims

1. A method for an efficient delivering of a multimedia content through a network interconnecting a plurality of host systems, wherein said efficient delivering of said multimedia content is from a plurality of source host systems of said plurality of host systems to a plurality of destination host systems of said plurality of host systems, said method comprising:

determining of a quality of service measure of each host system of said plurality of host systems with respect to a destination host system of said plurality of destination host systems, determining of reliability measure of each host system of said plurality of host systems with respect to said destination host system of said plurality of destination host systems, determining of a load measure of each host system of said plurality of host systems, determining of a priority measure of said efficient delivering of said multimedia content, performing of a round-robin pull as part of said efficient delivering said multimedia content, performing of a targeted pull as part of said efficient delivering of said multimedia content, and prioritizing of a plurality of pull requests at a source host system of said plurality of host systems.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein said method of determining of said qualify of service measure further comprising:

analyzing of a session related to a delivering of a multimedia content from a source host system of said plurality of host systems to a destination host system of said plurality of host systems, computing of a delay in transmission from said source host system to said destination system, and updating of said quality of service measure with respect to said source host system based on said delay.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein said method further comprising:

analyzing of a session related to a delivering of a multimedia content from a source host system of said plurality of host systems to a destination system of said plurality of host systems, computing of an error in transmission from said source host system to said destination system, and updating of said quality of service measure with respect to said source host system based on said error.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein said method of determining of said reliability measure further comprising:

analyzing of a session related to a delivering of a multimedia content from a source host system of said plurality of host systems to a destination host system of said plurality of host systems, computing of a loss in transmission from said source host system to said destination system, and updating of said reliability measure with respect to said source host system based on said loss.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein said method of determining of said load measure further comprising:

determining of a plurality of users requesting for a session related to a delivering of a multimedia content from a source host system of said plurality of host systems to a destination host system of said plurality of host systems, and computing of said load measure based on said plurality of users.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein said method further comprising:

determining of a plurality of sessions related to a delivering of a plurality of multimedia contents by a source host system of said plurality of host systems to a plurality of destination host systems of said plurality of host systems, and computing of said load measure at said source host system based on said plurality of sessions.

The method of claim 1, wherein said method of performing of said round-robin pull, wherein said round-robin pull is related to said efficient delivering of said multimedia content from said plurality of source host systems to a destination host system of said plurality of destination systems, further comprising:

computing of a normalized delay measure based on a quality of service measure associated with each of said plurality of source host systems, computing of a normalized error measure based on a quality of service measure associated with each of said plurality of source host systems, computing of a normalized loss measure based on a reliability measure associated with each of said plurality of source host systems, determining of a normalized session priority measure based on a priority of a session related to said delivering of said multimedia content from said plurality of source host system to said destination host system, computing of a normalized transformed elapsed time measure based on an inverse normal distribution of a normalized elapsed time of said session, computing of a normalized user loading measure based on a load measure associated with said destination system, said session, and a pre-defined maximum number of users, computing a normalized session loading measure based on a load measure associated each of said plurality of source host systems, computing of a normalized measure based on said normalized delay measure, said normalized error measure, said normalized loss measure, said normalized session priority measure, said normalized transformed elapsed time measure, said normalized user loading measure, and said normalized session loading measure, computing a normalized weight related to a source host system of said plurality of source host systems based on a normalized measure associated with said source host system and a normalized measure associated each of said plurality of source host systems, computing of an amount to be pulled by said destination host system based on an already pulled past data, and current elapsed time, and computing a partial amount to be pulled from said source host system based on said amount and said normalized weight related to said source host system, and initiating of said partial amount pull from said source host system.

The method of claim 1, wherein said method of performing of said targeted pull, wherein said targeted pull is related to a delivering of said multimedia content from said plurality of source host system to a destination host system of said plurality of destination host systems, further comprising:

determining of an amount of data loss in said destination host system, determining of a source host system of said plurality of source host systems, wherein said host system is the source for said amount, determining of a normalized reliability measure of said source host system, identifying of a second source host system of said plurality of source host systems, wherein said identifying further comprising determining of a revised source normalized reliability measure of said second source host system, and ensuring of said revised source normalized reliability measure is greater than or equal to said normalized reliability measure, and initiating of said amount pull from said second source host system.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein said method of prioritizing further comprising:

obtaining of a session priority of a session associated with a pull request of said plurality of pull requests, computing of a normalized transformed elapsed time measure associated with said session associated with said pull request based on an inverse normal distribution of a normalized elapsed time of said session, computing of a normalized amount associated with said pull request based on a plurality of amounts associated with said plurality of pull requests, computing of a normalized delivery amount accumulated for delivery associated with said session associated with said pull request based on a plurality of delivery amounts associated with said plurality of pull requests, and computing of an overall priority of said pull request based on said session priority, said normalized transformed elapsed time measure, said normalized amount, and said normalized delivery amount.
