Abstract

A provisioning server can actively monitor the software provisioning processes being performed on a target machine to determine the status and integrity of the provisioning processes and notify an administrator or user of the status and integrity. The provisioning server can be configured to include a monitoring module and a message module. The monitoring module can be configured to monitor software provisioning processes being performed on a target machine and determine the status and integrity of the provisioning processes. The message module can be configured send notification to the administrator or user of the status and integrity of the provisioning processes.

Claims

1. A method of monitoring software provisioning in a software provisioning environment, comprising:

determining at least one software provisioning process being performed on at least one target system;

monitoring, by the provisioning server, the status of the at least one software provisioning processes during the provisioning processes; and

providing a notification of the status to at least one user associated with the software provisioning environment.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein monitoring the status, comprises:

receiving status information from the at least one target machine; and

determining the status of the at least one software provisioning process based on the status information.

3. The method of claim 2, receiving the status information, comprises:

receiving the status information upon an occurrence of an event in the at least one software provisioning process.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein determining the status of the at least one software provisioning process, comprises:

computing a possible status from the status information.

5. The method of claim 2, wherein the status information comprises at least one of a progress of the at least one software provisioning process, an integrity of the at least one software provisioning process, or a completion of the at least one software provisioning process.

6. The method of claim 1, providing the notification of status, comprises:

transmitting a message to the at least one user.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the notification of the status is provided when the monitoring of the status indicates a problem with the at least one software provisioning process.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the notification of the status is provided at determined intervals during the at least one software provisioning process.

9. A system for monitor software provisioning in a software provisioning environment, comprising:

a network interface to a network comprises at least one target system; and

a provisioning server, communicating with the network interface, the provisioning server being configured to—

determine at least one software provisioning process being performed on the at least one target system;

monitor the status of the at least one software provisioning processes during the provisioning processes; and

provide a notification of the status to at least one user associated with the software provisioning environment.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein monitoring the status, comprises:

receiving status information from the at least one target machine; and

determining the status of the at least one software provisioning process based on the status information.

11. The system of claim 10, receiving the status information, comprises:

receiving the status information upon an occurrence of an event in the at least one software provisioning process.

12. The system of claim 10, wherein determining the status of the at least one software provisioning process, comprises:

computing a possible status from the status information.

13. The system of claim 10, wherein the status information comprises at least one of a progress of the at least one software provisioning process, an integrity of the at least one software provisioning process, or a completion of the at least one software provisioning process.

14. The system of claim 9, providing the notification of status, comprises:

transmitting a message to the at least one user.

15. The system of claim 9, wherein the notification of the status is provided when the monitoring of the status indicates a problem with the at least one software provisioning process.

16. The system of claim 9, wherein the notification of the status is provided at determined intervals during the at least one software provisioning process.

17. A provisioning application, the provisioning application being embodied in a computer readable medium and comprising instructions for causing a computer to perform a method comprising:

determining at least one software provisioning process being performed on at least one target system;

monitoring, by the provisioning server, the status of the at least one software provisioning processes during the provisioning processes; and

providing a notification of the status to at least one user associated with a software provisioning environment.

18. The provisioning application of claim 17, wherein monitoring the status, comprises:

receiving status information from the at least one target machine; and

determining the status of the at least one software provisioning process based on the status information.

19. The provisioning application of claim 18, receiving the status information, comprises:

receiving the status information upon an occurrence of an event in the at least one software provisioning process.

20. The provisioning application of claim 18, wherein determining the status of the at least one software provisioning process, comprises:

computing a possible status from the status information.

21. The provisioning application of claim 18, wherein the status information comprises at least one of a progress of the at least one software provisioning process, an integrity of the at least one software provisioning process, or a completion of the at least one software provisioning process.

22. The provisioning application of claim 17, providing the notification of status, comprises:

transmitting a message to the at least one user.

23. The provisioning application of claim 17, wherein the notification of the status is provided when the monitoring of the status indicates a problem with the at least one software provisioning process.

24. The provisioning application of claim 17, wherein the notification of the status is provided at determined intervals during the at least one software provisioning process.
