Abstract

Disclosed is a method for detection of a pressure loss in motor vehicle tires, which detects pressure loss on at least one vehicle tire based on several parameters, which are calculated from the rolling circumference of the tires. To this end, currently calculated parameters are compared with learnt values of the parameters.

9. A method for detecting a pressure loss in motor vehicle tires, the method comprising:

detecting a pressure loss at a vehicle wheel due to a change of a rolling circumference of one or more tires;

calculating at least two different parameters from the rolling circumference of the one or more tires in a different manner, and

evalulating the two different parameters to detect pressure loss on at least one vehicle tire.

10. A method according to claim 9, wherein the changes of the rolling circumferences of the tires are calculated at least one of diagonal wise (DIAG), sidewise (SIDE), or axlewise (AXLE), are used as parameters.

11. A method according to claim 9, wherein the parameters are calculated depending on at least one of a vehicle speed or a wheel torque.

12. A method according to claim 9, wherein the calculated parameters are compared with learnt values of the parameters, which describe a tire without pressure loss.

13. A method according to claim 12, wherein a warning about pressure loss is given when a deviation of the calculated parameters from the learnt values of the parameters exceeds a fixed threshold.

14. A method according to claim 9 further comprising:

determining an absolute vehicle speed from disturbances of rotational speed signals induced by the road;

determining an absolute rolling circumference of each tire from the respective wheel rotational speed signals of the tires and from the absolute rolling circumference of each tire; and

giving a warning about pressure loss is when the parameters, which are calculated from the wheel rotational speed signals, and a change of the absolute rolling circumferences of the tires detect pressure loss.

A method according to claim 9, wherein the wheel rotational speed signals are evaluated with respect to the vibration properties of the tires, and a warning of pressure loss is given when the parameters, which are calculated from the wheel rotational speed signals, and a change of the vibration properties of the tires detect pressure loss.
