Abstract

A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a mobile communication device, having a controller to capture media content and transmit the media content to a media server with a request for distribution of the media content to one or more targeted recipients according to a user profile associated with the mobile communication device that is stored in the media server, where a format of the media content is adjusted by the media server based at least in part on the user profile. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Claims

1. A computer-readable storage medium, comprising computer instructions for:

receiving a request to distribute media content from a first communication device, the media content being captured by the first communication device;

determining one or more targeted recipients of the media content based on a user profile associated with the first communication device;

determining a recipient format for the media content based on the user profile, the recipient format being associated with second communication devices of the one or more targeted recipients;

receiving the media content;

adjusting a format of the media content according to the recipient format; and

transmitting the media content with the adjusted format to the second communication devices in real time.

2. The storage medium of claim 1, comprising computer instructions for modifying the adjusted format of the media content after transmission of the media content to the second communication devices has begun.

3. The storage medium of claim 1, comprising computer instructions for storing the media content and providing the second communication devices with access to the media content based on the user profile.

4. The storage medium of claim 1, comprising computer instructions for storing the user profile associated with the first communication device, wherein the user profile comprises identification information for the one or more targeted recipients.

5. The storage medium of claim 1, comprising computer instructions for overriding the determination of the one or more targeted recipients based upon an input into the first communication device.

6. The storage medium of claim 1, comprising computer instructions for transmitting a notification according to the user profile.

7. The storage medium of claim 1, wherein the user profile is a group profile associated with the first communication device and the second communication devices.

8. The storage medium of claim 1, comprising computer instructions for overriding the determination of the recipient format based upon an input into the first communication device.

9. A server, comprising a controller to:

receive media content that is being captured by a first communication device;

determine a desired format for the media content to be received by second communication devices of a plurality of targeted recipients based on a user profile associated with the first communication device;

adjust a format of the media content based on the desired format; and

transmit the media content with the adjusted format to the second communication devices.

10. The server of claim 9, wherein the controller is adapted to determine the plurality of targeted recipients based on the user profile.

11. The server of claim 9, wherein the controller is adapted to store the user profile, and wherein the user profile comprises identification information for the plurality of targeted recipients.

12. The server of claim 9, wherein the controller is adapted to store the media content and provide access to the media content according to the user profile.

13. The server of claim 9, wherein the controller is adapted to modify the adjusted format of the media content after transmission of the media content to the second communication devices has begun.

14. The server of claim 9, wherein the controller is adapted to transmit the media content with the adjusted format in real time to the second communication devices.

15. The server of claim 10, wherein the controller is adapted to override at least one of the determination of the desired format and the determination of the one or more targeted recipients based upon an input into the first communication device.

16. A server, comprising a controller to:

receive media content that is being captured by a first communication device;

receive a request for distribution of the media content to targeted recipients;

determine second communication devices associated with the targeted recipients based on a user profile associated with the first communication device;

determine a desired format for the media content to be received by the second communication devices based on the user profile;

adjust a format of the media content based on the desired format; and

transmit the media content with the adjusted format to the second communication devices.

17. The server of claim 16, wherein the controller is adapted to transmit the media content with the adjusted format in real time to the second communication devices.

18. A mobile communication device, comprising a controller to capture media content and transmit the media content to a media server with a request for distribution of the media content to one or more targeted recipients according to a user profile associated with the mobile communication device that is stored in the media server, wherein a format of the media content is adjusted by the media server based at least in part on the user profile.

19. The mobile communication device of claim 18, wherein the media server transmits the media content to the one or more targeted recipients in real time.

20. The mobile communication device of claim 18, wherein the media server modifies the adjusted format of the media content after transmission of the media content to the one or more targeted recipients has begun.

21. A method comprising:

determining one or more targeted recipients of media content based on a user profile associated with a first communication device;

determining a recipient format for the media content based on the user profile, the recipient format being associated with second communication devices of the one or more targeted recipients;

receiving the media content being captured by the first communication device;

adjusting a format of the media content according to the recipient format; and

transmitting the media content with the adjusted format to the second communication devices of the one or more targeted recipients in real time.

22. The method of claim 21, comprising modifying the adjusted format of the media content after transmission of the media content to the second communication devices has begun.

23. The method of claim 21, comprising storing the media content and providing the second communication devices with access to the media content based on the user profile.

24. The method of claim 21, wherein the user profile is a group profile associated with the first communication device and the second communication devices.

25. The method of claim 21, comprising overriding at least one of the determination of the one or more targeted recipients and the determination of the recipient format based upon an input into the first communication device.
