Abstract

The exemplary embodiment relates to a method of controlling a three-dimensional user interface, which controls a three-dimensional user interface to follow a user'"'"'s motion, and a mobile terminal using the same. The method comprising: displaying a plurality of three-dimensional menu icons; sensing movement of a user; and rotating at least one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons according to the sensed movement such that at least one reference face of the at least one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons follows the user'"'"'s movement.

Claims

1. A method of controlling a three-dimensional user interface of a mobile terminal, the method comprising:

displaying a plurality of three-dimensional menu icons;

sensing movement of a user; and

rotating at least one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons according to the sensed movement such that at least one reference face of the at least one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons follows the user'"'"'s movement.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining a speed at which the user moves and wherein rotating the at least one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons comprises rotating according to the determined speed.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining an amount of the sensed movement and comparing the determined amount of movement to a threshold value, and wherein rotating the at least one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons comprises rotating at a specific angle when the determined amount of movement is greater than the threshold value.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining a slope at which the mobile terminal is inclined and wherein rotating the at least one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons comprises rotating in a direction opposite to the determined slope.

The method of claims 1, further comprising receiving a command to select a specific one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons and wherein rotating the at least one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons comprises rotating only the specific one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons.

The method of claim 2, further comprising receiving a command to select a specific one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons and wherein rotating the at least one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons comprises rotating only the specific one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons according to the determined speed.

The method of claim 3, further comprising receiving a command to select a specific one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons and wherein rotating the at least one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons comprises rotating only the specific one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons at the specific angle when the determined amount of movement is greater than the threshold value.

The method of claim 4, further comprising receiving a command to select a specific one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons and wherein rotating the at least one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons comprises rotating only the specific one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons in the direction opposite to the determined angle.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one reference face of each of the at least one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons comprises one lateral face of the corresponding three-dimensional menu icon that the user has observed before moving.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein sensing movement of the user comprises capturing an image of the user.

11. A mobile terminal comprising:

a display displaying a plurality of three-dimensional menu icons;

a motion sensor sensing movement of a user; and

a controller rotating at least one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons according to the sensed movement such that at least one reference face of the at least one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons follows the user'"'"'s movement.

12. The mobile terminal of claim 11, wherein the controller further determines a speed at which the user moves and rotates the at least one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons according to the determined speed.

The mobile terminal of claim 11, wherein the controller further determines an amount of the sensed movement of the user, compares the determined amount of movement to a threshold value, and rotates the at least one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons at a specific angle when the determined amount of movement is greater than the threshold value.

14. The mobile terminal of claim 11, further comprising an angle sensor sensing an angle at which the mobile terminal is inclined and wherein the controller rotates the at least one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons in a direction opposite to the sensed angle.

The mobile terminal of claim 11, further comprising an input unit for receiving a command from a user to select a specific one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons or a sensor to detect selection of the specific one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons according to a relative position of the user to the display and wherein the controller rotates only the specific one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons.

The mobile terminal of claim 12, further comprising an input unit for receiving a command from a user to select a specific one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons or a sensor to detect selection of the specific one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons according to a relative position of the user to the display and wherein the controller further determines a speed at which the user moves and rotates only the specific one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons according to the determined speed.

The mobile terminal of claim 13, further comprising an input unit for receiving a command from a user to select a specific one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons or a sensor to detect selection of the specific one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons according to a relative position of the user to the display and wherein the controller further determines an amount of the sensed movement, compares the determined amount of movement to a threshold value, and rotates only the specific one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons at a specific angle when the determined amount of movement is greater than the threshold value.

The mobile terminal of claim 14, further comprising an angle sensor sensing an angle at which the mobile terminal is inclined and an input unit for receiving a command from a user to select a specific one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons or a sensor to detect selection of the specific one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons according to a relative position of the user to the display and wherein the controller rotates only the specific one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons in a direction opposite to the sensed angle.

19. The mobile terminal of claim 11, wherein the at least one reference face of each of the at least one of the plurality of three-dimensional menu icons comprises one lateral face of the corresponding three-dimensional menu icon that the user has observed before moving.

20. The mobile terminal of claim 11, wherein the motion sensor comprises a camera.
