Abstract

Provided is a distributed system and method for enabling new and useful location dependent features and functionality to mobile data processing systems. Mobile data processing systems (MSs) interact with each other as peers in communications and interoperability. Indirectly located mobile data processing systems are located relative other mobile data processing systems, and are automatically located using whereabouts data of directly located mobile data processing systems and/or whereabouts data of other indirectly located mobile data processing systems. A mobile data processing system may dynamically take on roles of being directly located or indirectly located, depending on the environment and capabilities available at a particular time. Data is shared between mobile data processing systems to carry out novel Location Based eXchanges (LBX) of data for new mobile applications. Information transmitted inbound to, transmitted outbound from, is in process at, or is application modified at a mobile data processing system triggers processing of actions in accordance with user configured permissions, charters, and other configurations. In a preferred embodiment, a user configurable platform is provided for quickly building well behaving LBX applications at MSs and across a plurality of interoperating MSs. Tools, triggered interfaces and integrated applications are disclosed for a breadth of MS LBX configurations and functionality.

Claims

1. ) A method for sent application data processing at a receiving mobile data processing system, said method comprising the steps of:

receiving from a sending mobile data processing system said sent application data wirelessly and directly through no intervening data processing system;

processing said sent application data in accordance with a user configuration; and

maintaining said sent application data with a sending identity to a collection of other application data from a plurality of mobile data processing systems other than said receiving mobile data processing system and said sending mobile data processing system.

2. ) The method of claim 1 wherein said step of processing said sent application data in accordance with a user configuration includes producing a visual or audible indication for perception by a user of said receiving mobile data processing system.

3. ) The method of claim 1 wherein said step of processing said sent application data in accordance with a user configuration includes producing a visual or audible indication for perception by a user of said sending mobile data processing system.

4. ) The method of claim 1 wherein said step of processing said sent application data in accordance with a user configuration includes triggering the presentation of a graphical user interface for subsequent application interaction between said receiving mobile data processing system and said sending mobile data processing system.

5. ) The method of claim 1 wherein said sent application data contains data describing an emergency.

6. ) The method of claim 1 wherein said sent application data contains data describing a phone application.

7. ) The method of claim 1 wherein said sent application data contains scheduling data for a calendar application.

8. ) The method of claim 1 wherein said sent application data contains service directory information, said service directory information for routing service requests from said receiving mobile data processing to a service by way of said sending mobile data processing system.

9. ) The method of claim 1 wherein said sent application data contains address book data for an address book application.

10. ) The method of claim 1 wherein said sent application data contains data describing a common application to both said receiving mobile data processing and said sending mobile data processing system, said common application having a user interface at both is of said receiving mobile data processing system and said sending mobile data processing system.

11. ) The method of claim 1 wherein said sent application data contains public transportation information for matching a customer with a public transportation automobile.

12. ) A receiving mobile data processing system which processes sent application data, comprising:

means for receiving from a sending mobile data processing system said sent application data wirelessly and directly through no intervening data processing system;

means for processing said sent application data in accordance with a user configuration; and

means for maintaining said sent application data with a sending identity to a collection of other application data from a plurality of mobile data processing systems other than said receiving mobile data processing system and said sending mobile data processing system.

13. ) The receiving mobile data processing system of claim 12 wherein said means for processing said sent application data in accordance with a user configuration includes means for producing a visual or audible indication for perception by a user of said receiving mobile data processing system.

14. ) The receiving mobile data processing system of claim 12 wherein said means for processing said sent application data in accordance with a user configuration includes means for producing a visual or audible indication for perception by a user of said sending mobile data processing system.

15. ) The receiving mobile data processing system of claim 12 wherein said means for processing said sent application data in accordance with a user configuration includes means for triggering the presentation of a graphical user interface for subsequent application interaction between said receiving mobile data processing system and said sending mobile data processing system.

16. ) The receiving mobile data processing system of claim 12 wherein said sent application data contains data describing an emergency.

17. ) The receiving mobile data processing system of claim 12 wherein said sent application data contains data describing a phone application.

18. ) The receiving mobile data processing system of claim 12 wherein said sent application data contains scheduling data for a calendar application.

19. ) The receiving mobile data processing system of claim 12 wherein said sent application data contains address book data for an address book application.

20. ) The receiving mobile data processing system of claim 12 wherein said sent application data contains public transportation information for matching a customer with a public transportation automobile.
