Abstract

An exemplary method includes parsing data representative of an automated test case into at least one transaction defined in accordance with a global test language, translating the transaction into at least one command specific to an automated test tool, and providing the command to the automated test tool for execution. In certain examples, the method further includes parsing the data representative of the automated test case into at least one other transaction defined in accordance with the global test language, translating the other transaction into at least one other command specific to another automated test tool, and providing other command to the other automated test tool for execution.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

parsing data representative of an automated test case into at least one transaction defined in accordance with a global test language;

translating said at least one transaction into at least one command specific to an automated test tool; and

providing said at least one command to said automated test tool for execution.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

parsing said data representative of said automated test case into at least one other transaction defined in accordance with said global test language;

translating said at least one other transaction into at least one other command specific to another automated test tool; and

providing said at least one other command to said another automated test tool for execution.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

executing said at least one command with said automated test tool to test an asset; and

executing said at least one other command with said another automated test tool to test another asset.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein said asset is associated with a first resource type and said another asset is associated with a second resource type.

5. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

receiving data representative of a test result from said automated test tool; and

providing said test result to said another automated test tool for use in said execution of said at least one other command.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

adding said automated test case to a queue;

determining an availability of at least one resource; and

initiating at least one of said parsing, said translating, and said providing based at least in part on said queue and said availability of said resource.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising identifying a resource type specified in said automated test case, wherein said resource type is associated with a predefined set of transactions defined in accordance with said global test language.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein said resource type comprises one of a wireless phone resource type, a user interface resource type, a telephony resource type, a television resource type, and a data storage resource type.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

identifying a resource type specified in said automated test case; and

selectively providing said at least one transaction to an adapter for said translating of said at least one transaction, wherein said adapter is selected based at least in part on said resource type.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein said global test language defines a plurality of transaction sets and a plurality of resource types, and where each of said transaction sets is associated with a respective one of said resource types.

11. The method of claim 1, tangibly embodied as computer-executable instructions on at least one computer-readable medium.

12. A method comprising:

adding an automated test case to a queue;

identifying a resource type specified in said automated test case;

determining an availability of a resource associated with said resource type; and

coordinating execution of said automated test case based on said queue and said availability of said resource.

13. The method of claim 12, further comprising:

identifying another resource type specified in said automated test case;

determining an availability of another resource associated with said another resource type; and

coordinating execution of said automated test case based on said queue and said availability of said another resource.

14. The method of claim 12, wherein said coordinating includes reserving said resource for said automated test case.

15. The method of claim 12, further comprising executing said automated test case, said executing including

parsing data representative of said automated test case into at least one transaction defined in accordance with a global test language,

translating said at least one transaction into at least one command specific to an automated test tool, and

providing said at least one command to said automated test tool for execution.

16. The method of claim 15, further comprising:

receiving data representative of test feedback from said automated test tool; and

logging said test feedback.

17. A system comprising:

a test engine configured to parse data representative of an automated test case into at least one transaction defined in accordance with a global test language; and

a plurality of adapters configured to communicate with a plurality of automated test tools, wherein each of said adapters is configured to translate between a set of transactions defined in accordance with said global test language and a test tool specific language;

wherein one of said adapters is configured to

translate said at least one transaction into at least one command specific to one of said automated test tools, and

provide said at least one command to said one of said automated test tools for execution.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein said set of transactions is associated with one of a wireless phone resource type, a user interface resource type, a telephony resource type, a television resource type, and a data storage resource type.

19. The system of claim 17, further comprising:

a test case manager configured to queue said automated test case for execution by said test engine; and

a resource manager configured to manage an availability of a plurality of resources;

wherein said test case manager is configured to initiate execution of said automated test case based on said queue and on said availability of said plurality of resources.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein said resource manager is configured to reserve each of said resources for use in said test case and to release each of said resources after execution of said test case.

21. The system of claim 17, wherein said one of said adapters is configured to

collect test feedback associated with execution of said at least one command with said one of said automated test tools, and

use said test feedback to determine success or failure of said at least one transaction.
