Abstract

The invention is directed to methods for the treatment of wounds. Such methods utilize novel compositions, including but not limited to amnion-derived multipotent cells (herein referred to as AMP cells), conditioned media derived therefrom (herein referred to as amnion-derived cellular cytokine suspension or ACCS), cell lysates derived therefrom, cell products derived therefrom, each alone or in combination.

18. A method for promoting accelerated wound healing in a patient in need thereof comprising administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of one or more compositions comprising extraembryonic cytokine secreting cells, conditioned media derived therefrom, cell lysate derived therefrom or cell products derived therefrom.

23. The method of claim 18, 19, 20, 21, or 22 wherein the extraembryonic cytokine secreting cells are amnion-derived multipotent progenitor cells or pooled amnion-derived multipotent progenitor cells.

24. The method of claim 18, 19, 20, 21, or 22 wherein the conditioned media is amnion-derived cellular cytokine suspension or pooled amnion-derived cellular cytokine suspension.

25. The method of claim 18 wherein the wound is a congenital wound or an acquired wound.

26. The method of claim 25 wherein the congenital wound is epidermolysis or scalp aplasia.

27. The method of claim 25 wherein the acquired wound is an acute wound or a chronic wound.

28. The method of claim 27 wherein the acute wound is trauma or a surgical incision.

29. The method of claim 28 wherein the trauma wound is a burn, open fracture or avulsion.

30. The method of claim 27 wherein the chronic wound is a pressure ulcer, venous ulcer, diabetic ulcer, sickle cell ulcer or peptic ulcer.

19. A method for increasing the tensile strength and breaking strength of a healing or healed wound in a patient in need thereof comprising administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of one or more compositions comprising extraembryonic cytokine secreting cells, conditioned media derived therefrom, cell lysate derived therefrom or cell products derived therefrom.

20. A method for stimulating growth or regeneration of epidermal cells in a patient in need thereof comprising contacting the patient'"'"'s epidermal cells with a therapeutically effective amount of one or more compositions comprising extraembryonic cytokine secreting cells, conditioned media derived therefrom, cell lysate derived therefrom or cell products derived therefrom.

A method for inhibiting fibrosis and collagen contraction in a patient in need thereof comprising contacting the patient'"'"'s wound with a therapeutically effective amount of one or more compositions comprising extraembryonic cytokine secreting cells, conditioned media derived therefrom, cell lysate derived therefrom or cell products derived therefrom.

22. A method to reduce the occurrence of tissue scarring and adhesion formation during the wound healing process after surgery which comprises applying to the surgical site a therapeutically effective amount of one or more compositions comprising extraembryonic cytokine secreting cells, conditioned media derived therefrom, cell lysate derived therefrom or cell products derived therefrom.

31. The method of claim 22 wherein the applying of the one or more compositions to the surgical site occurs prior to the surgical procedure, during the surgical procedure, after the surgical procedure, or combinations thereof.

32. A cosmetic preparation comprising one or more compositions comprising amnion-derived multipotent progenitor cells, pooled amnion-derived multipotent progenitor cells, amnion-derived cellular cytokine suspension, pooled amnion-derived cellular cytokine suspension, amnion-derived multipotent progenitor cell lysates or amnion-derived multipotent progenitor cell products.
