Abstract

A presence service providing system and method is disclosed that provides presence information regarding presentities to watchers. The presence system sets mapping information, which contains the presence information that matches position information corresponding to at least one presentity. When the position information is received via a positioning system, the presence system detects the presence information, which matches the received position information, from the set mapping information. The detected presence information is transmitted from the presence system to a watcher. The presence service providing system can provide a variety of presence information according to the location of the presentity, so that watchers can more specifically and clearly identify the states of the presentity from the presence information.

Claims

1. A method for updating presence information based on position information of a presence server, comprising:

receiving the position information and presence information related to at least one presentity;

registering the received position information and presence information which match with each other corresponding to the at least one presentity; and

updating, when a change of at least one of the registered position information and presence information is requested, the registered position information and presence information by changing the at least one of the registered position information and presence information.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the position information is received through a positioning system or from the at least one presentity.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the registering step further comprises:

storing the received position information and presence information; and

connecting the stored position information with the stored presence information.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the receiving step further comprises:

periodically receiving the position information regarding the at least one presentity.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the registering step further determines communication intention data differently according to time intervals.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the position information contains identification data that is individually allocated to the at least one presentity and coordinates data indicating position coordinates of the at least one presentity.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the presence information contains at least one of location data determined to distinguish among the coordinate data, communication intention data indicating whether communication is performed at the coordinate data, and time interval data as a determination reference of the communication intention data.

8. An apparatus for updating presence information based on position information, comprising:

at least one presentity;

a presence server for receiving the position information and presence information the at least one presentity, registering the received position information and presence information which match with each other corresponding to the at least one presentity, and updating, when a change of at least one of the registered position information and presence information is requested, the registered position information and presence information by changing the at least one of the registered position information and presence information.

9. The apparatus of claim 8, further comprising:

a positioning system for receiving the position information from the at least one presentity and transmitting the received position information to the presence server.

10. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the presence server registers the received position information and presence information by storing the received position information and presence information respectively and by connecting the stored position information with the stored presence information.

11. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the positioning system previously registers the at least one presentity and periodically receives the position information regarding the at least one presentity.

12. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the presence server registers the received position information and presence information by determining communication intention data differently according to time intervals.

13. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the position information contains identification data that is individually allocated to the at least one presentity and coordinates data indicating position coordinates of the at least one presentity.

14. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the presence information contains at least one of location data determined to distinguish among the coordinate data, communication intention data indicating whether communication is performed at the coordinate data, and time interval data as a determination reference of the communication intention data.

15. A method for providing presence information based on position information of a presence server, comprising:

storing the presence information which matches the position information related to at least one presentity;

receiving a request for the presence information regarding the at least one presentity from at least one watcher; and

transmitting the presence information and position information related to the at least one presentity in response to the request to the at least one watcher.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the transmitting comprises:

transmitting, when the position information regarding the at least one presentity is changed, the presence information which matches the changed position information to the at least one watcher.

17. The method of claim 16, further comprising:

collecting the position information regarding the at least one presentity at a positioning system; and

transmitting the position information to the presence server at the positioning system.

18. The method of claim 15, wherein the position information contains identification data that is individually allocated to the at least one presentity and coordinates data indicating position coordinates of the at least one presentity.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the presence information contains at least one of location data determined to distinguish among the coordinate data, communication intention data indicating whether communication is performed at the coordinate data, and time interval data as a determination reference of the communication intention data.

20. An apparatus for providing presence information based on position information, comprising:

at least one presentity;

a presence server for storing the presence information which matches the position information related to the at least one presentity, receiving a request for the presence information regarding the at least one presentity, and transmitting the presence information and position information related to the at least one presentity in response to the request; and

at least one watcher for transmitting the request to the presence server and receiving the presence information and position information regarding the at least one presentity in response to the request.
