1. In an automotive system comprising one or more powered wheels, a controllerless electric drive system configured to power the one or more powered wheels, the system comprising:

  • a battery;

    a substantially constant-speed electric motor;

    a torque converter;

    a continuously variable transmission; and

    one or more powered wheels, wherein the battery is coupled to the substantially constant-speed electric motor, and wherein the substantially constant-speed electric motor is coupled to the continuously variable transmission via the torque converter, such that the battery provides power for the electric motor to drive the continuously variable transmission which turns the one or more powered wheels, without implementing a controller to vary the current between the battery and the motor.
