Abstract

A method of controlling a mobile terminal and which includes displaying contents on a display screen of the terminal, receiving a signal indicating a portion of the display screen on the mobile terminal has been designated, and executing, via a control unit, a preset function corresponding to an output mode of information contained in the designated portion of the display screen.

Claims

1. A method of controlling a mobile terminal, the method comprising:

displaying contents on a display screen of the terminal;

receiving a signal indicating a portion of the display screen on the mobile terminal has been designated; and

executing, via a control unit, a preset function corresponding to an output mode of information contained in the designated portion of the display screen.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the preset function comprises automatically magnifying the information contained in the designated portion of the display screen without user intervention.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the magnifying step comprises:

displaying the magnified information in the same designated portion of the display screen such that a user can view other information displayed on the display screen outside of the designated portion.

4. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

receiving a movement signal indicating a movement of the magnified information; and

moving the magnified information to a new location on the display screen in accordance with the received movement signal.

5. The method of claim 4, further comprising:

recognizing when the new location on the display screen is at an outer edge of the display screen; and

scrolling other information displayed on the display screen outside of the designated portion when the recognizing step recognizes the new location on the display screen is at the outer edge of the display screen based on a continued movement of the magnified information.

6. The method of claim 4, further comprising:

recognizing when the new location on the display screen is at an outer edge of the display screen; and

refreshing or displaying a new page of other information displayed on the display screen outside of the designated portion when the recognizing step recognizes the new location on the display screen is at the outer edge of the display screen.

7. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

receiving a selection signal indicating a selection of a portion of the magnified information; and

magnifying the selected portion of the magnified portion.

8. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

receiving a selection signal indicating a selection of a portion of the magnified information; and

correcting the selected portion of the magnified portion.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the preset function comprises displaying a list of functions that can be executed on the information contained in the designated portion of the display screen.

10. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

receiving a selection signal corresponding to a selection of one of the displayed functions,

wherein the executing step executes the selected one of the displayed functions.

11. The method of claim 9, wherein the displayed list of functions include magnifying the information contained in the designated portion of the display screen, transmitting the information contained in the designated portion of the display screen to at least one other terminal, and storing the information contained in the designated portion of the display screen to a memory included in the mobile terminal.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the displayed contents on the display screen of the terminal include a plurality of execution icons that execute particular functions on the mobile terminal when selected, and

wherein if the designated portion of the display screen includes a single execution icon, the executing step executes a function corresponding the single execution function, and if the designated portion of the display screen includes more than one execution icon, the executing step magnifies the more than one execution icon.

13. A mobile terminal, comprising:

a display unit configured to display contents;

a receiving unit configured to receive a signal indicating a portion of the display screen on the mobile terminal has been designated; and

a control unit configured to execute a preset function corresponding to an output mode of information contained in the designated portion of the display screen.

14. The mobile terminal of claim 13, wherein the preset function comprises automatically magnifying the information contained in the designated portion of the display unit without user intervention.

15. The mobile terminal of claim 14, wherein the control unit is farther configured to control the display unit to display the magnified information in the same designated portion of the display unit such that a user can view other information displayed on the display unit outside of the designated portion.

16. The mobile terminal of claim 14, wherein the receiving unit is farther configured to receive a movement signal indicating a movement of the magnified information, and the control unit is farther configured to control the display unit to move the magnified information to a new location on the display unit in accordance with the received movement signal.

17. The mobile terminal of claim 16, wherein the control unit is farther configured to recognize when the new location on the display unit is at an outer edge of the display unit, and to scroll other information displayed on the display unit outside of the designated portion when the new location on the display unit is at the outer edge of the display unit based on a continued movement of the magnified information.

18. The mobile terminal of claim 16, wherein the control unit is further configured to recognize when the new location on the display unit is at an outer edge of the display unit, and to control the display unit to refresh or display a new page of other information displayed on the display unit outside of the designated portion when the new location on the display unit is at the outer edge of the display screen.

19. The mobile terminal of claim 14, wherein the receiving unit is further configured to receive a selection signal indicating a selection of a portion of the magnified information, and the control unit is further configured to magnify the selected portion of the magnified portion.

20. The mobile terminal of claim 14, wherein the receiving unit is further configured to receive a selection signal indicating a selection of a portion of the magnified information, and the control unit is further configured to correct the selected portion of the magnified portion.

21. The mobile terminal of claim 13, wherein the preset function comprises displaying a list of functions that can be executed on the information contained in the designated portion of the display unit.

22. The mobile terminal of claim 21, wherein the receiving unit is further configured to receive a selection signal corresponding to a selection of one of the displayed functions, and

wherein the control unit is further configured to execute the selected one of the displayed functions.

23. The mobile terminal of claim 21, wherein the displayed list of functions include magnifying the information contained in the designated portion of the display unit, transmitting the information contained in the designated portion of the display unit to at least one other terminal, and storing the information contained in the designated portion of the display unit to a memory included in the mobile terminal.

24. The mobile terminal of claim 13, wherein the displayed contents include a plurality of execution icons that execute particular functions on the mobile terminal when selected, and

wherein if the designated portion of the display screen includes a single execution icon, the control unit is further configured to execute a function corresponding the single execution function, and if the designated portion of the display screen includes more than one execution icon, the control unit is further configured to magnify the more than one execution icon.
