Abstract

A system and method for propagating identification information among a communication device and a server, through an agent installed on the device. Such process optionally and preferably comprises synchronization between the server and the device, through the agent, such that one or both of the agent and the server may optionally “push” or “pull” information.

12. A method for synchronizing data between a plurality of communication devices and a server, comprising:

Providing an agent for being operated by each communication device;

Providing a self contact comprising personal information for a user of a communication device, wherein said self contact is managed through said agent and is updated through an address book application on said communication device;

Synchronizing said self contact between said agent and the server;

Altering said self contact by the user with at least one alteration in said personal information through said address book application; and

Propagating at least one alteration, if any, from said self contact to at least one other of the plurality of communication devices.

13. The method of claim 12 wherein said at least one alteration is sent by the server to one or more of the plurality of communication devices if the user is listed as a contact.

14. The method of claim 12, wherein said communicating is initiated by the server.

15. The method of claim 12, wherein said communicating is initiated by said agent.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein said agent initiates said communicating according to alteration of data on the telephone.

17. The method of claim 12, wherein the data comprises at least one or more of contact information text, sound, image, avatar, video, other visual information.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein said sound comprises a ringtone.

19. The method of claim 12, further comprising:

Creating said self contact for the user of a communication device upon first synchronization between said communication device and said server, said self contact including information about the user.

20. The method of claim 12, wherein said propagating said at least one alteration comprises:

Determining a type of data of said at least one alteration;

Determining whether said at least one other communication device is capable of operating with said type of data; and

If so, propagating said at least one alteration to said at least one other communication device.

21. The method of claim 12, wherein said at least one alteration is propagated to a plurality of other communication devices.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein said at least one alteration is propagated to all other relevant communication devices.

23. The method of claim 12, wherein said communication device comprises a telephone.

24. The method of claim 23, wherein said communication device comprises a cellular telephone.

25. The method of claim 12, wherein said communication device is a mobile communication device.

26. The method of claim 25, wherein said mobile communication device comprises voice communication capability.

30. The method of claim 12, wherein said providing said self contact further comprises creating said self contact by a user with personal identification information of said user.

39. The method of claim 18, wherein said image represents a photograph of the user or an image selected by the user.

33. A method for synchronizing data between a plurality of communication devices, comprising:

Providing a self contact comprising personal information for a first user of a first communication device, wherein said self contact is managed through said agent and is updated through an address book application on said communication device;

Altering said self contact by the user with at least one alteration in said personal information through said address book;

Detecting said at least one alteration to said self contact; and

Propagating said at least one alteration, if any, from said self contact to at least one other of the plurality of communication devices.

34. The method of claim 33, wherein said propagating said at least one alteration comprises:

Determining a type of data of said at least one alteration;

Finding other users that have the altering user in their address books as a contact

Determining whether said at least one other communication device is capable of operating with said type of data; and

If so, propagating said at least one alteration to said at least one other communication device.

35. The method of claim 34, wherein said at least one alteration is propagated to at least one of said plurality of communication devices, apart from said first communication device, if said first user is listed as a contact at said at least one of the other communication devices.
