Abstract

Methods and systems to initialize a data source based on a compatibility with an application are described. The system receives item information from a seller. The item information describes a first part that is offered for sale on a network-based marketplace by the seller. In addition, the system further receives application information from the seller that describes a first application. The first part is compatible with the first application. The application information further includes multiple values respectively selected by the seller that describe the first application. The multiple values are respectively associated with a predetermined set of attributes. Next, the system identifies a multiple application identifiers based on the values that were selected by the seller. Next, the system stores the item information in association with the plurality of application identifiers. The item information is stored as listing item information and the application identifier are stored as listing application information.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving item information from a seller, the item information describing a first part that is being offered for sale on a network-based marketplace by the seller;

receiving application information from the seller describing a first application, the first part being compatible with the first application, the receiving of the application information further including receiving a plurality of values respectively selected by the seller, the plurality of values describing the first application and respectively associated with a predetermined set of attributes;

using a processor to identify a plurality of application identifiers based on the plurality of values that are selected by the seller; and

storing the item information in association with the plurality of application identifiers, the item information being stored as listing item information and the plurality of application identifier being stored as listing application information, the listing item information and the listing application information being stored in a listing that is being utilized to offer the first part for sale on the network-based marketplace.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the identifying the plurality of application identifiers includes communicating a request to retrieve the plurality of application identifiers from a catalogue of products.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the request includes the plurality of values selected by the seller.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the plurality of values includes a first value that is selected from a pull down menu by the seller.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the listing application information further includes note information that is received from the seller, the note information providing a further description of the first application.

6. The method of claim 5, further including storing the note information in the plurality of application identifiers respectively.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the predetermined set of attributes includes an automobile make, an automobile model, an automobile year, an automobile trim and an automobile engine.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the application identifiers include an application identifier that identifies a computer.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the application identifiers include an application identifier that identifies an automobile.

10. A system comprising:

a selling module to a receive item information from a seller, the item information to describe a first part that is offered for sale on a network-based marketplace by the seller, the selling module to further receive application information from the seller that describes a first application, the first part being compatible with the first application, and the application information further including a plurality of values respectively selected by the seller, the plurality of values describing the first application and being respectively associated with a predetermined set of attributes;

a catalogue module to identify a plurality of application identifiers based on the plurality of values that are selected by the seller; and

a database module to store the item information in association with the plurality of application identifiers, the database module to store the item information as listing item information and the plurality of application identifier as listing application information, the database module to store the listing item information and the listing application information in a listing that is being utilized to offer the first part for sale on the network-based marketplace.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein the selling module communicates a request to the catalogue module to retrieve the plurality of application identifiers from a catalogue of products.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the request includes the plurality of values selected by the seller.

13. The system of claim 10, wherein the plurality of values includes a first value that is selected from a pull down menu by the seller.

14. The system of claim 10, wherein the listing application information further includes note information that is received from the seller, the note information providing a further description of the first application.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the database module stores the note information in the plurality of application identifiers respectively.

16. The system of claim 10, wherein the predetermined set of attributes includes an automobile make, an automobile model, an automobile year, an automobile trim and an automobile engine.

17. The system of claim 10, wherein the plurality of application identifiers includes an application identifier that identifies a computer.

18. The system of claim 10, wherein the plurality of application identifiers includes an application identifier that identifies an automobile.

19. A machine-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform the following actions:

receiving item information from a seller, the item information describing a first part that is being offered for sale on a network-based marketplace by the seller;

receiving application information from the seller describing a first application, the first part being compatible with the first application, the receiving of the application information further including receiving a plurality of values respectively selected by the seller, the plurality of values describing the first application and respectively associated with a predetermined set of attributes;

identifying a plurality of application identifiers based on the plurality of values that are selected by the seller; and

storing the item information in association with the plurality of application identifiers, the item information being stored as listing item information and the plurality of application identifier being stored as listing application information, the listing item information and the listing application information being stored in a listing that is being utilized to offer the first part for sale on the network-based marketplace.

20. A system comprising:

a selling module to receive item information from a seller, the item information to describe a first part that is offered for sale on a network-based marketplace by the seller, the selling module to further receive application information from the seller that describes a first application, the first part being compatible with the first application, and the application information further including a plurality of values respectively selected by the seller, the plurality of values describing the first application and being respectively associated with a predetermined set of attributes;

a catalogue module to identify a plurality of application identifiers based on the plurality of values that are selected by the seller; and

a means for storing the item information in association with the plurality of application identifiers, the database module to store the item information as listing item information and the plurality of application identifier as listing application information, the database module to store the listing item information and the listing application information in a listing that is being utilized to offer the first part for sale on the network-based marketplace.
