Abstract

A satellite navigation receiver having multiple operation states includes a processing unit and a power management interface. The processing unit is operable for locating the satellite navigation receiver based on multiple satellite signals and operable for setting multiple time durations of the operation states respectively based on a velocity of the satellite navigation receiver. The power management interface coupled to the processing unit is operable for switching the satellite navigation receiver among the operation states according to the time durations.

Claims

1. A satellite navigation receiver capable of operating in a plurality of operation states, said satellite navigation receiver comprising:

a processing unit operable for locating said satellite navigation receiver based on a plurality of satellite signals and operable for setting a plurality of time durations of said operation states respectively based on a velocity of said satellite navigation receiver; and

a power management interface coupled to said processing unit and operable for switching said satellite navigation receiver among said operation states according to said time durations.

2. The satellite navigation receiver as claimed in claim 1, wherein said operation states comprise a working state in which said processing unit is powered on, and a sleep state in which said processing unit is powered off.

3. The satellite navigation receiver as claimed in claim 1, wherein said processing unit comprises a velocity component operable for calculating said velocity according to said locating of said satellite navigation receiver.

4. The satellite navigation receiver as claimed in claim 1, wherein said processing unit comprises a velocity component operable for calculating said velocity according to Doppler frequency shift of said satellite signals.

5. The satellite navigation receiver as claimed in claim 1, wherein said processing unit comprises a velocity component operable for calculating said velocity, and for performing digital signal processing on said calculated velocity.

6. The satellite navigation receiver as claimed in claim 1, wherein said velocity is an average velocity of said satellite navigation receiver during a predetermined time period.

The satellite navigation receiver as claimed in claim 1, wherein said processing unit stores a plurality of time data sets associated with a plurality of velocity conditions, respectively, and wherein said processing unit is capable of selecting a corresponding time data set according to a condition of said velocity and setting said time durations according to said selected time data set.

8. The satellite navigation receiver as claimed in claim 7, wherein said processing unit further defines a velocity threshold, and compares said velocity to said velocity threshold to determine said condition of said velocity.

9. The satellite navigation receiver as claimed in claim 7, wherein said time data sets are predetermined by a machine-executable navigation software application stored in said satellite navigation receiver.

10. A method for controlling a satellite navigation receiver, said method comprising:

locating said satellite navigation receiver according to a plurality of satellite signals by a processing unit;

switching said satellite navigation receiver in a plurality of operation states according to a plurality of predetermined time durations of said operation states respectively; and

setting said time durations based on a velocity of said satellite navigation receiver.

11. The method as claimed in claim 10, wherein said switching step comprises:

alternately switching said satellite navigation receiver between a working state in which said processing unit is powered on and a sleep state in which said processing unit is powered off.

12. The method as claimed in claim 10, further comprising:

calculating said velocity according to said locating of said satellite navigation receiver.

13. The method as claimed in claim 10, further comprising:

calculating said velocity according to Doppler frequency shift of said satellite signals.

14. The method as claimed in claim 10, further comprising:

calculating said velocity; and

performing digital signal processing on said calculated velocity.

15. The method as claimed in claim 10, wherein said setting step comprises:

accessing a plurality of time data sets associated with a plurality of velocity conditions respectively;

selecting a corresponding time data set from said plurality of time data sets according to a condition of said velocity; and

setting said time durations according to said selected time data set.

16. The method as claimed in claim 15, further comprising:

defining a velocity threshold; and

determining said condition of said velocity by comparing said velocity to said velocity threshold.

17. A satellite navigation device comprising:

a satellite navigation receiver capable of operating in a plurality of operation states, said satellite navigation receiver comprising;

a tracking module operable for providing acquiring and tracking data of a plurality of satellites according to a plurality of satellite signals;

a machine-readable medium coupled to said tracking module and operable for storing a first plurality of instruction codes executable by a processor to provide a coordinate signal based on said acquiring and tracking data, and for storing a second plurality of instruction codes executable by said processor to set a plurality of time durations of said operation states respectively based on a velocity of said satellite navigation device; and

a display coupled to said satellite navigation receiver and operable for displaying a location of said satellite navigation device according to said coordinate signal.

18. The satellite navigation device as claimed in claim 17, wherein said machine-readable medium stores a third plurality of instruction codes executable by said processor to calculate said velocity according to said coordinate signal.

19. The satellite navigation device as claimed in claim 17, wherein said machine-readable medium stores a third plurality of instruction codes executable by said processor to calculate said velocity according to Doppler frequency shift of said satellite signals.

The satellite navigation device as claimed in claim 17, wherein said machine-readable medium further stores a plurality of predetermined time data sets associated with a plurality of velocity conditions, respectively, and wherein said second plurality of instruction codes is executable by said processor to select a corresponding time data set according to a condition of said velocity and set said time durations according to said selected time data set.

The satellite navigation device as claimed in claim 20, wherein said machine-readable medium further stores a velocity threshold, and wherein said second plurality of instruction codes is further executable by said processor to determine said condition of said velocity by comparing said velocity to said velocity threshold.

22. The satellite navigation device as claimed in claim 20, wherein said time data sets are predetermined by a machine-executable navigation software application stored in said satellite navigation device.
