1. A method of operating a banking apparatus responsive to data bearing records, comprising:

  • a) receiving at least one input through operation of at least one input device of a banking transaction machine, wherein the machine includes at least one computer, a card reader device, a keypad, and a cash dispenser, wherein the at least one computer is operative to cause the card reader device to read data from a card corresponding to a financial account;

    b) operating the machine responsive to a determination made as to whether voice data of a user included in an audio input signal received from an audio input device corresponds to a particular recognized user stored in a data store, including;

    i) dispensing cash from the cash dispenser for a financial account without causing the card reader device to read data from a card corresponding to the financial account, when the determination indicates that the voice data of the user included in the audio input signal corresponds to a particular recognized user stored in a data store in correlated relation with the financial account; and

    ii) dispensing cash from the cash dispenser for a financial account responsive to at least one of;

    data corresponding to the financial account read from a card by the card reader; and

    data corresponding to a personal identification number (PIN) received through operation of the keypad, when the determination indicates that the voice data of the user included in the audio input signal does not correspond to a particular recognized user stored in the data store for the financial account.
