Abstract

A cash dispensing banking transaction machine that operates responsive to data bearing records includes a card reader that reads identifying data from a user card. The machine dispenses cash from a cash dispenser for a financial account without causing the card reader device to read data from a card corresponding to the financial account, when a determination indicates that a voice of the user included in an audio input signal to audio input device corresponds to a particular recognized user stored in a data store in correlated relation with the financial account.

Claims

1. A method of operating a banking apparatus responsive to data bearing records, comprising:

a) receiving at least one input through operation of at least one input device of a banking transaction machine, wherein the machine includes at least one computer, a card reader device, a keypad, and a cash dispenser, wherein the at least one computer is operative to cause the card reader device to read data from a card corresponding to a financial account;

b) operating the machine responsive to a determination made as to whether voice data of a user included in an audio input signal received from an audio input device corresponds to a particular recognized user stored in a data store, including;

i) dispensing cash from the cash dispenser for a financial account without causing the card reader device to read data from a card corresponding to the financial account, when the determination indicates that the voice data of the user included in the audio input signal corresponds to a particular recognized user stored in a data store in correlated relation with the financial account; and

ii) dispensing cash from the cash dispenser for a financial account responsive to at least one of;

data corresponding to the financial account read from a card by the card reader; and

data corresponding to a personal identification number (PIN) received through operation of the keypad, when the determination indicates that the voice data of the user included in the audio input signal does not correspond to a particular recognized user stored in the data store for the financial account.

2. The method according to claim 1, further comprising:

c) prior to (b) receiving the audio input signal including the voice data of the user from the audio input device;

d) responsive to the audio input signal received in (c), generating the determination as to whether the voice data of the user included in the audio input signal corresponds to the particular recognized user stored in the data store,

3. The method according to claim 2, wherein in (c) the audio input device includes a microphone.

4. The method according to claim 2, wherein in (d) the determination includes operation of voice recognition software.

5. The method according to claim 2, wherein in (d) the determination includes operation of a speech recognition device.

6. The method according to claim 1, wherein (b)(ii) includes:

c) verifying that the user is authorized to withdrawal cash from the financial account through communication with a host system;

d) updating the data store with data associated with the voice data of the user included in the audio input signal.

7. The method according to claim 1, wherein (b) further includes operating the machine responsive to a further determination made as to whether image data of the user acquired with a camera corresponds to the same particular recognized user stored in the data store.

8. At least one article including computer executable instructions operative to cause at least one computer of a cash dispensing banking transaction machine to carry out a method comprising:

a) receiving at least one input through operation of at least one input device of the machine, wherein the machine includes at least one computer, a card reader device, a keypad, and a cash dispenser, wherein the at least one computer is operative to cause the card reader device to read data from a card corresponding to a financial account;

b) operating the machine responsive to a determination made as to whether voice data of a user included in an audio input signal received from an audio input device corresponds to a particular recognized user stored in a data store, including;

i) dispensing cash from the cash dispenser for a financial account without causing the card reader device to read data from a card corresponding to the financial account, when the determination indicates that the voice data of the user included in the audio input signal corresponds to a particular recognized user stored in a data store in correlated relation with the financial account; and

ii) dispensing cash from the cash dispenser for a financial account responsive to at least one of;

data corresponding to the financial account read from a card by the card reader; and

data corresponding to a personal identification number (PIN) received through operation of the keypad, when the determination indicates that the voice data of the user included in the audio input signal does not correspond to a particular recognized user stored in the data store for the financial account.
