Abstract

The present principles provide systems and methods for displaying associations between data files and logical assets including the data files. Upon user-selection of a representation of a logical asset, a method in accordance with an aspect of the present principles includes determining associations between data files and the logical asset and displaying a listing of data files associated with the logical asset. Conversely, the method may also include presenting a listing of logical assets associated with a user-selected data file upon determination of logical assets associated with the data file. Moreover, another aspect of the present principles permits bi-directional navigation capability between a logical asset associations view and a physical asset associations view.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

identifying a first logical asset including at least one data file associated with the first logical asset; and

generating a listing of data files associated with the first logical asset for display in response to a user request.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

generating a display for a representation of the first logical asset including at least one data file that is activated and is associated with the first logical asset;

providing a user with an first option to display receive a listing of data files that are associated with the first logical asset;

determining which data files are associated with the first logical asset in response to user-selection of the first option; and

generating a first associations view including the listing of the data file such that data files associated with the first logical asset are displayed.

3. The method of claim 2 further comprising the steps of:

displaying a second option to select a data file among the at least one data file and to display a listing of logical assets that include a user-selected data file in activated form;

determining which logical assets include the user-selected data file in activated form in response to user-selection of the second option; and

generating a second associations view including a listing of at least one logical asset that is associated with the user-selected data file such that logical assets associated with the user-selected data file are displayed.

4. The method of claim 3 further comprising the step of:

presenting a representation of the user-selected data file within a hierarchical storage structure indicating the location of the user-selected data file in a storage medium in response to a user-command.

5. The method of claim 2 further comprising the steps of:

prompting the user to specify search terms; and

generating a results list including the representation of the first logical asset.

6. The method of claim 2 further comprising the step of:

indicating the most readily accessible data files associated with the first logical asset in the first association view.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the first logical asset is configured to include a plurality of associated data files.

8. A media content material asset management process that employs the method of claim 1.

9. A method, comprising:

identifying a first data file included in activated form in at least one logical asset that is associated with the first data file; and

generating a listing of logical assets associated with the first data file for display in response to a user request.

10. The method of claim 9 further comprising:

generating a display for a representation of the first data file included in activated form in at least one logical asset that is associated with the first data file;

providing with a first option to display a listing of logical assets that are associated with the first data file;

determining which logical assets are associated with the first data file in response to user-selection of the first option; and

generating a first associations view including a listing of the at least one logical asset such that logical assets associated with the first data file are displayed.

11. The method of claim 10 further comprising the step of:

presenting a representation of the first data file within a hierarchical storage structure indicating the location of the first data file in a storage medium in response to a user-command.

12. The method of claim 10 further comprising the steps of:

displaying a second option to select a logical asset among the at least one logical asset and to display a listing of data files that are included in activated form in a user-selected logical asset;

determining which data files are included in activated form in the user-selected logical asset in response to user-selection of the second option; and

generating a second associations view including a listing of at least one data file associated with the user-selected logical asset such that data files associated with the user-selected logical asset are displayed.

13. The method of claim 12 further comprising the step of:

indicating the most readily accessible data files associated with the user-selected logical asset in the second association view.

14. The method of claim 10 further comprising the steps of:

prompting the user to specify search terms; and

generating a results list including the representation of the first data file.

15. The method of claim 9 further comprising the step of:

configuring the logical asset to include a plurality of associated data files.

16. A media content material asset management process that employs the method of claim 9.

17. A system, comprising:

means for identifying a first logical asset including at least one data file associated with the first logical asset; and

means for generating a listing of data files associated with the first logical asset for display in response to a user request.

18. The system of claim 17 further comprising:

means for generating a first associations view that is configured to be displayed upon determination of which assets are associated with the first logical asset in response to a first user request, including;

a listing of a first asset; and

a listing of at least one other asset associated with the first asset indicating assets associated with the first asset.

19. The system of claim 18 wherein the first asset is a logical asset and the at least one other asset associated with the first asset is at least one physical asset included in activated form in the first asset.

20. The system of claim 18 wherein the at least one other asset associated with the first asset is at least one logical asset associated with the first asset and the first asset is a physical asset included in activated form in the at least one other asset associated with the first asset.

21. The system of claim 18 further comprising:

means for generating a second associations view that is configured to be displayed upon user-selection of a second asset from the first associations view and upon determination of which assets are associated with the second asset in response to a second user-command, including;

a listing of the second asset; and

a listing of at least one other asset associated with the second asset indicating assets associated with the second asset.

22. The system of claim 21 wherein the at least one other asset associated with the second asset is at least one logical asset associated with the second asset and the second asset is a physical asset included in activated form in the at least one other asset associated with the second asset.

23. The system of claim 21 wherein the second asset is a logical asset and the at least one other asset associated with the second asset is at least one physical asset included in activated form in the second asset.

24. The system of claim 21 further comprising:

an explore view, including a representation of said second asset within a hierarchical storage structure indicating the location of the second asset in a storage medium, that is configured to be displayed upon user-selection of the second asset within the first associations view and is configured to enable activation of said second associations view upon user-selection of the representation of said second asset.

25. The system of claim 17 further comprising:

means for generating a search view, configured to enable a user to search for both physical assets and logical assets by specifying search terms; and

means for generating a results list, including a representation of a first asset that is configured to be displayed upon a user-command to search for assets in accordance with specified search terms.

26. A media content material asset management system that employs the system of claim 17.
