at least one working electrode having an electroactive surface having a hydrophilic polymer contacting at least a portion the of the electroactive surface of the at least one working electrode, and an enzyme layer disposed on or combined with the hydrophilic polymer, wherein the enzyme layer comprises glucose oxidase and poly-N-vinylpyrrolidone; at least one reference or counter electrode having an electroactive surface and a first layer contacting at least a portion of the electroactive surface of the at least one reference or counter electrode, wherein the first layer is selected from the group consisting of cellulosic polymer, polysilicones, polytetrafluoroethylenes, polyethylene-co-tetrafluoroethylenes, polyolefins, polyester, polycarbonates, polyurethanes, polypropylene (PP), polyvinylchloride (PVC), polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), polybutylene terephthalates (PBT), polymethylmethacrylates (PMMA), polyether ether ketones (PEEK), polyurethanes, polysulfones, tetrafluoroethylene-perfluoro-3,6-dioxa-4-methyl-7-octenesulfonic acid copolymers (Nafion) and combinations thereof; and an analyte flux limiting membrane disposed on the at least one working electrode, and optionally the first layer, wherein the analyte flux limiting membrane comprises ethylene vinyl acetate having a vinyl acetate content of at least 33 wt. %.

15. A method of reducing fouling of a non-working electrode of an electrochemical analyte sensor, the method comprising:

providing an electrochemical analyte sensor comprising at least one non-working electrode, each of the at least one non-working electrode comprising an electroactive surface; and providing a first layer in contact with at least a portion of the electroactive surface of the at least one non-working electrode; wherein the layer reduces fouling of the electroactive surface of the at least one non-working electrode. - View Dependent Claims (16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23)
