Abstract

A method is generally described which includes detecting motions associated with a user, by a feedback sensor device. The method of also includes receiving information by a control program, the information being related to an objective of the user'"'"'s motion from an objective information source and receiving data representative of the detected motions by the control program. Further, the method includes generating control data based on the data representative of the detected motions and the information, by a control algorithm of the control program. Further still, a method includes running the control program by a controller. Yet further still, the method includes outputting control signals based on the control data and delivering current from a current source to the vestibular system of the user in response to the control signals.

Claims

1. A system for altering a user'"'"'s motions, the system comprising:

a current source;

a feedback sensor device configured to detect motions associated with a user;

an objective information source, configured to provide information related to an objective of the user'"'"'s motion;

a control program configured to receive data representative of the detected motions and to receive the information, the control program having a control algorithm configured to generate control data based on the data representative of the detected motions and the information;

a controller configured to run the control program and output control signals based on the control data; and

electrical contacts configured to contact flesh of the user and deliver a current from a current source to a vestibular system of the user in response to the control signals.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the objective is measured from an expert user and stored in a database of the objective information source.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the objective is provided by a computer program based on characteristics of the user.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the objective is provided by a healthcare provider.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the objective is related to magnitude of user motion.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the objective is related to direction of user motion.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the objective is related to sequence of user motions.

8. The system of claim 1, further comprising:

a recorder configured to record the detected motions.

33. A method of altering a user'"'"'s motions, comprising:

detecting motions associated with a user, by a feedback sensor device;

receiving information by a control program, the information being related to an objective of the user'"'"'s motion from an objective information source;

receiving data representative of the detected motions by the control program;

generating control data based on the data representative of the detected motions and the information, by a control algorithm of the control program;

running the control program by a controller;

outputting control signals based on the control data; and

delivering a current from a current source to a vestibular system of the user in response to the control signals.

41. The method of claim 33, wherein the control algorithm includes an objective function.

42. The method of claim 33, wherein the control algorithm is configured to track the information.

43. The method of claim 33, wherein the control algorithm includes an observer.

44. The method of claim 33, wherein the control algorithm includes a classical control algorithm.

45. The method of claim 33, wherein the control algorithm includes a feedback control algorithm.

46. The method of claim 33, wherein the control algorithm includes a nonlinear control algorithm.

47. The method of claim 33, wherein the control algorithm includes an optimal control algorithm.

48. The method of claim 33, wherein the control algorithm includes a state estimator.

49. The method of claim 33, wherein the control algorithm includes an adaptive control algorithm.

55. The method of claim 33, wherein the feedback sensor includes at least one accelerometer.

64. The method of claim 33, wherein the feedback sensor device includes at least one magnetic field sensor.

65. The method of claim 33, wherein the current frequency is adjustable.

receiving a set of sounds by a user;

detecting motions associated with the user, by a feedback sensor device;

receiving information by a control program, the information being related to an objective of the user'"'"'s motion from an objective information source;

receiving data representative of the detected motions by the control program;

generating control data based on the data representative of the detected motions and the information, by a control algorithm of the control program;

running the control program by a controller;

outputting control signals based on the control data; and

delivering a current from a current source to a vestibular system of the user in response to the control signals.

68. The method of claim 67, further comprising:

storing in a database of the objective information source the objective having been measured from an expert user.

69. The method of claim 67, further comprising:

receiving the objective provided by a computer program based on characteristics of the user.

70. The method of claim 67, further comprising:

receiving the objective provided by a healthcare provider.

71. The method of claim 67, wherein the objective includes a score associated with a piece of music.

72. The method of claim 67, wherein the objective includes a score associated with a length of video

recording the detected motions by a recorder.

96. An information source for use in a vestibular stimulation system, comprising:

a first data set including data related to vestibular motions of a user; and

a second data set including data related to one or more sensory input data sets.

97. The information source of claim 96, wherein the first data set includes data related to vestibular stimulation commands.

98. The information source of claim 96, wherein the first data set includes data related to expected motions.

99. The information source of claim 96, wherein the sensory input includes sound.

100. The information source of claim 96, wherein the sensory input includes video.

101. The information source of claim 96, wherein the second data set includes an identification label for the one or more sensory input data set.

102. The information source of claim 96, wherein the second data set includes at least a portion of the one or more sensory input data set.

103. The information source of claim 96, wherein the third data set includes a memory location for the one or more sensory input data set.

104. The information source of claim 96, wherein the first data set and the second data set reside on the same memory device.

105. The information source of claim 96, wherein the first data set and the sensory input data set reside on the same memory device.

106. The information source of claim 96, wherein at least one of the first data set or the sensory input data set includes reference markers to help enable synchronization between the first and the sensory input data sets.

107. A motion inducement system, comprising:

a vestibular stimulation system;

a first data set including data related to vestibular influenced motions of a user;

a second data set including data related to sensory input to a user;

a third data set correlating the first data set with the second data set; and

a controller coupled to the vestibular stimulation system and receiving data from the first data and the second data set, the controller providing control signals based on the first data set and the second data set.

108. The system of claim 107, wherein the first data set includes data related to vestibular stimulation commands.

109. The system of claim 107, wherein the first data set includes data related to expected motions.

110. The system of claim 107, wherein the sensory input includes sound.

111. The system of claim 107, wherein the sensory input includes video.

112. The system of claim 107, wherein the third data set includes an identification label for at least one of the first and second data sets.

113. The system of claim 107, wherein the third data set includes a memory location for at least one of the first and second data sets.

114. The system of claim 107, wherein the first data set and the second data set reside on the same memory device.
