Abstract

The present disclosure provides an apparatus and method of detecting ischemia with a pressure sensor. The method can include obtaining a pressure signal and determining a pressure rate of change. The method can also include identifying at least one of impaired relaxation and impaired contractility in order to detect ischemia.

Claims

1. A method of detecting ischemia, the method comprising:

obtaining a pressure signal;

determining a pressure rate of change based on the pressure signal; and

identifying at least one of impaired relaxation and impaired contractility based on the pressure rate of change in order to detect ischemia.

2. The method of claim 1 and further comprising obtaining the pressure signal using a pressure sensor located in one of the left ventricle, the right ventricle, the left atrium, and the pulmonary artery.

3. The method of claim 1 and further comprising obtaining the pressure signal and a baseline pressure signal.

4. The method of claim 3 and further comprising obtaining the pressure signal and the baseline pressure signal with a single sensor.

5. The method of claim 3 and further comprising obtaining the pressure signal in response to a trigger signal, wherein the trigger signal includes at least one of an ECG signal, a timer signal, a patient-activated trigger signal, and a heart sounds signal.

The method of claim 1 and further comprising obtaining at least one complementary signal from at least one complementary sensor including at least one of heart rate, heart rate variability, time of day, heart sounds, patient activity, impedance, core body temperature, respiration rate, mixed venous oxygen saturation, wall contractility, wall tension, pulse oximetry, pulse pressure, number of premature ventricular contractions, non-sustained ventricular tachycardia, and sustained ventricular tachycardia.

7. The method of claim 6 and further comprising analyzing the pressure signal and the at least one complementary signal to determine if the pressure signal represents a normal hemodynamic response.

8. The method of claim 1 and further comprising providing one of a pressure sensor lead, a lead-less pressure sensor, and a wireless pressure sensor.

9. The method of claim 1 and further comprising detecting ischemia from one of a heart'"'"'s right side and a heart'"'"'s left side.

10. The method of claim 1 and further comprising determining a level of exertion.

11. An implantable medical device comprising:

a data collection module configured to obtain a pressure signal;

a data processing module coupled to the data collection module,

the data processing module configured to determine a pressure rate of change based on the pressure signal;

the data processing module configured to identify at least one of impaired relaxation and impaired contractility based on the pressure rate of change in order to detect ischemia; and

a therapy module coupled to the data processing module, the therapy module configured to at least one of deliver therapy and generate an alert when the at least one of impaired relaxation and impaired contractility is identified.

12. The device of claim 11 wherein the data collection module obtains the pressure signal using a pressure sensor located in one of the left ventricle, the right ventricle, the left atrium, and the pulmonary artery.

13. The device of claim 11 wherein the data collection module obtains a baseline pressure signal.

14. The device of claim 13 wherein the data collection module obtains the pressure signal and the baseline pressure signal from a single sensor.

15. The device of claim 13 wherein the data collection module obtains the pressure signal from a first sensor and the baseline pressure signal from a second sensor in a different location.

The device of claim 11 wherein the data collection module obtains at least one complementary signal from at least one complementary sensor including at least one of heart rate, heart rate variability, time of day, heart sounds, patient activity, impedance, core body temperature, respiration rate, mixed venous oxygen saturation, wall contractility, wall tension, pulse oximetry, pulse pressure, number of premature ventricular contractions, non-sustained ventricular tachycardia, and sustained ventricular tachycardia.

17. The device of claim 16 wherein the data processing module analyzes the pressure signal and the at least one complementary signal to determine if the pressure signal represents a normal hemodynamic response.

18. The device of claim 11 wherein the data collection module obtains the pressure signal after receiving a trigger signal, wherein the trigger signal includes at least one of an ECG signal, a timer signal, a patient-activated trigger signal, and a heart sounds signal.

19. The device of claim 11 wherein the data collection module obtains the pressure signal from one of a heart'"'"'s right side and a heart'"'"'s left side.

20. The device of claim 11 wherein the data collection module measures a level of exertion.
