Abstract

Validation of the identity of the user is performed with the use of a card associated with intelligence that identifies the user. Validation of the document involves one or more of: validating the presence of a signature; validating the amount of the monetary transaction document including a manual entry of the amount by the user; validating CAR against the LAR; and validating the banking system parameters and rules for the customer and/or the transaction. To assist in the automatic analysis of data on monetary transactional documents or on remittance documents, the user is prompted to provide a bounding box about the data. An image touch screen may be touched by the user to locate the bounding box and the user may magnify the data to fill the boundary box to exclude other data from analysis. After document and person validation, the system will dispense money or transfer monies to a savings account, a checking account, a smart card, or the like. The system will also write money orders or wire transfer money.

Claims

1. A system for automatic cashing of checks or making remittance transactions without aid of a bank teller or the like, comprising:

an automated machine configured to receive a transaction document having data thereon for a transaction;

a scanning device in the automated machine configured to scan the transaction document and to provide an image from the transaction document to a user;

a user validator configured to validate the user with a security confidence level;

a document validator configured to validate the transaction document with a security confidence level;

optionally, a manual entry device operable by the user and configured to enter an amount with respect to at least one of, the transaction document, the transaction to be performed or any combination thereof; and

a cash dispenser associated with the automated machine configured to dispense cash when the user and transaction document have sufficient security confidence levels.

2. The system in accordance with claim 1, wherein the cash dispenser comprises bins configured to hold only cash of certain large denominations, and the system further comprises:

a processor configured to cause dispensing of large denominations of cash from the bins and dispensing of the card after writing a remainder amount on the card.

3. The system in accordance with claim 1, further comprising:

a card writing device configured to add a remainder amount onto a card to complete the transaction.

The system in accordance with claim 1, wherein the user validator for the transaction document comprises an engine configured to extract data at a legal amount recognition (LAR) line and an engine configured to extract data at a courtesy amount recognition (CAR) line to provide security confidence levels that amounts from the CAR line and LAR line match one another.

5. The system in accordance with claim 1, further comprising:

a magnetic ink character recognition (MICR) device configured to analyze a MICR line with respect to an amount of a payroll check being cashed; and

a document validator configured to analyze of an account number of a check issuer as an authorized account.

6. The system in accordance with claim 5, wherein the document validator comprises a MICR reader configure to detect that the MICR line is written with magnetic material.

7. A method for automatic cashing of checks or making remittance transactions without aid of a bank teller or the like, comprising:

providing an automated machine configured to receive a transaction document having data thereon for a transaction and a processor for the automated machine;

scanning the transaction document and providing an image from the transaction document to a user;

validating with the processor that the user has a sufficient security confidence level;

validating with the processor that the transaction document has a sufficient security confidence level;

optionally, operating a manual entry device at the automated machine to enter an amount with respect to at least one of, the transaction document, the transaction to be performed or any combination thereof; and

bounding data on the transaction document by operations of the user to locate data for the processor for an automatic analysis by the processor; and

dispensing cash when the user and transaction document have validated security confidence levels.

8. The method in accordance with claim 7, further comprising:

magnifying the data in a bounding box.

9. The method in accordance with claim 8, further comprising:

touching a touch screen to create the bounding box and to magnify the data in the bounding box.

10. A method for automatic cashing of checks or making remittance transactions without aid of a bank teller or the like, comprising:

providing an automated machine configured to receive a transaction document having data thereon for a transaction and a processor for the automated machine;

scanning the transaction document and providing an image from the transaction document to a user;

validating with the processor that the user has a sufficient security confidence level;

validating with the processor that the document has a sufficient security confidence level;

optionally, operating a manual entry device at the automated machine to enter an amount with respect to at least one of, the transaction document, the transaction to be performed or any combination thereof; and

dispensing cash from a cash dispenser when the user and transaction document have validated security confidence levels in bills of certain denominations; and

writing a remainder on a card of the user to complete the transaction.

11. The method in accordance with claim 10, wherein the cash dispenser comprises bins configured to hold only cash of certain large denominations, and the method further comprising:

operating the processor to cause a dispensing of the large denominations of cash from the bins; and

dispensing of a card from the automated machine after writing a remainder on the card.

12. A method for automatic cashing of checks or making remittance transactions without aid of a bank teller or the like, comprising:

providing an automated machine configured to receive a transaction document having data thereon for a transaction and a processor for the automated machine;

scanning the transaction document and providing an image from the transaction document to a user;

validating with the processor that the user has a sufficient security confidence level;

validating with the processor that the transaction document has a sufficient security confidence level;

analyzing a biometric characteristic of the user as part of the validation of the user; and

dispensing cash when the user and transaction document have validated security confidence levels.

13. The method in accordance with claim 12, further comprising:

operating a manual entry device at the automated machine to enter an amount with respect to the transaction document and the transaction to be performed;

14. The method in accordance with claim 12, further comprising:

utilizing an engine configured to extract data at a legal amount recognition (LAR) line and utilizing an engine configured to extract data at a courtesy amount recognition (CAR) line to provide security confidence levels that amounts from the CAR line and the LAR line match one another.

15. A method for automatic cashing of checks issued by a previously authorized issuer entity without aid of a bank teller or the like, comprising:

providing an automated machine configured to receive a transaction document having data thereon for a transaction and a processor for the automated machine;

scanning the transaction document and providing an image from the transaction document to a user,

validating with the processor that the user has a sufficient security confidence level;

validating with the processor that the transaction document has a sufficient security confidence level;

optionally, operating a manual entry device at the automated machine to enter an amount with respect to at least one of, the transaction document, the transaction to be performed or any combination thereof; and

reading a magnetic ink character recognition (MICR) line to establish a cash amount of the transaction document;

analyzing the account number of the transaction document as being an authorized account for an issuer entity; and

dispensing cash when the user and transaction document have validated security confidence levels.

16. The method in accordance with claim 15, further comprising:

detecting that the MICR line is written with magnetic material.

17. A method for automatic handling of checks without aid of a bank teller or the like, comprising:

providing an automated machine configured to receive a transaction document having data thereon for a transaction and a processor for automated machine;

scanning the transaction document to produce an image and dissecting the image;

validating with a processor that a user has a sufficient security confidence level;

performing several field evaluations from the dissected image;

making a list of amount results ranked by confidence level from a plurality of field evaluations;

providing rules for an arbitration of a check transaction of a check; and

performing the transaction when a transaction arbitration has been satisfied.

18. The method in accordance with claim 17, wherein performing several field evaluations comprises:

extracting a dissected image of a legal amount recognition (LAR) line; and

extracting a dissected image of a courtesy amount recognition (CAR) line.

19. The method in accordance with claim 17, further comprising:

making a remittance transaction with the check;

dissecting an image of an associated remittance document;

making a list of amount results ranked by confidence level with respect to an amount on the associated remittance document; and

providing the amount results of the associated remittance document for arbitration prior to making the remittance transaction.

20. The method in accordance with claim 18, wherein performing the transaction comprises:

making a deposit in an account of the user.

21. The method in accordance with claim 17, wherein making several field evaluations comprises:

optically recognizing an amount from a magnetic ink character recognition (MICR) line; and

extracting a dissected image of a date from the MICR line.

22. The method in accordance with claim 18, wherein the arbitration comprises:

inputting a CAR recognition result into a weighted confidence algorithm for the CAR line;

comparing a result of the weighted confidence algorithm with a CAR threshold value;

inputting a LAR recognition result into a weighted confidence algorithm for the LAR line; and

comparing a result of the weighted confidence algorithm for the LAR line with a CAR threshold value.

23. The method in accordance with claim 17, further comprising:

magnetically recognizing a magnetic ink character recognition (MICR) line on the check to establish that the MICR line is written with magnetic material; and

performing a date amount recognition.
