Abstract

A system and method for categorizing content on a webpage is disclosed. The method comprises receiving a request for a webpage from a user'"'"'s computer. Next, the system determines whether there is dynamic content on the webpage by analyzing the address, links, reputation, type, style and other indicators of being able to easily change the webpage. If the webpage contains content that can be changed, then the webpage is analyzed to determine a current categorization thereof. If the webpage does not have dynamic content then the categorization of the webpage will remain the same thereby freeing system resources by only analyzing dynamic webpages.

Claims

1. A method for categorizing dynamic content on a webpage using a dynamic categorization computer system, the method comprising:

receiving a request for a webpage from a user'"'"'s computer with the dynamic categorization system;

determining if the webpage contains dynamic content;

analyzing the content of the webpage if the webpage contains dynamic content; and

determining the categorization for the content if the webpage contains dynamic content.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of determining if the webpage contains dynamic content comprises analyzing a reputation of the webpage.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of determining if the webpage contains dynamic content comprises analyzing an address of the webpage.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of determining if the webpage contains dynamic content comprises analyzing the content on the webpage to determine if the content can be easily changed.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the webpage includes multiple sections and the content of each section is analyzed and categorized.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of allowing access to the webpage for the user'"'"'s computer in response to the categorization of the webpage.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the step of allowing access further comprises blocking access if the content is malicious.

8. A system for categorizing content on a webpage with a computer system, the system comprising:

a content gateway module configured to receive a request for a webpage from a user'"'"'s computer;

a webfilter module in communication with the content gateway module, the webfilter module configured to store the categorization of the webpage and to determine if the webpage contains dynamic content; and

a dynamic categorization module in communication with the webfilter module and the content gateway module, the dynamic categorization module configured to categorize the webpage if the webpage contains dynamic content.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein the content gateway is configured to provide access to the user in response to the categorization of the webpage.

10. The system of claim 8, wherein the webfilter module is configured to determine if the webpage contains dynamic content by analyzing a reputation of the webpage.

11. The system of claim 8, wherein the webfilter module is configured to determine if the webpage contains dynamic content by analyzing an address of the webpage.

12. The system of claim 9, wherein the webfilter module is configured to determine if the webpage contains dynamic content by analyzing the content on the webpage to determine if the content can be easily changed.

13. The system of claim 9, wherein the webpage contains multiple sections and the content of each section is analyzed by the webfilter module.

14. The system of claim 9, further comprising a real time categorization server module configured to categorize the dynamic content of the webpage.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the dynamic categorization module is configured to categorize each section of the webpage if the content is dynamic.

16. A system for determining dynamic content on a webpage, the system comprising a computer having a dynamic categorization module configured to analyze the content of a webpage if the webpage contains content that is dynamic.

17. The system of claim 16, further comprising a webfilter module configured to determine that the content on the webpage is dynamic if the content can be easily changed.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the webfilter module is configured to analyze addresses of the webpage content in order to determine if the content is dynamic.

19. The system of claim 18, further comprising a real time categorization server module configured to categorize the content of the webpage.
