Abstract

Systems, methods, processes, computer program code and means for conducting a payment transaction are provided which include activating a payment application of a mobile device, generating, using the payment application, an optical image representing payment account information associated with the payment application, said payment account information including at least one of a payment account number, an expiry date of the payment account number, and a dynamic verification code generated by the payment application; and presenting the optical image to a merchant transaction terminal for scanning to conduct the payment transaction.

Claims

1. A method for conducting a payment transaction, comprising:

activating a payment application of a mobile device;

generating, using the payment application, an optical image representing payment account information associated with said payment application, said payment account information including at least one of a payment account number, an expiry date of said payment account number, and a dynamic verification code generated by said payment application; and

presenting said optical image to a merchant transaction terminal for scanning to conduct said payment transaction.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein said generating said optical image representing payment account information further includes incrementing a transaction counter for use in generating said dynamic verification code.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

displaying said optical image on a display device of said mobile device.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

generating, using the payment application, secondary payment account information; and

displaying said secondary payment account information on a display device of said mobile device.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein both said optical image and said secondary payment information are displayed on said display device.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein said optical image is a bar code image, and said presenting said optical image further comprises:

presenting said optical image to a bar code scanner associated with said merchant transaction terminal.

7. The method of claim 4, further comprising:

providing the secondary payment information to complete said transaction.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein said secondary payment information includes a static virtual payment account number (“

VPAN”

), an expiry date of said static VPAN, and dynamic data generated by said payment application.

9. The method of claim 6, further comprising:

generating, based on said bar code image, a transaction authorization request message; and

transmitting said transaction authorization request message to a payment network for authorization processing.

10. A method for operating a point of sale terminal to authorize a transaction, the method comprising:

optically scanning an image displayed on a portable device associated with a buyer, said image representing payment account information associated with a payment account, said payment account information including at least one of a payment account number, an expiry date of said payment account number, and a dynamic verification code generated by an application associated with said portable device for said transaction;

generating an authorization request message, said authorization request message including at least said payment account information; and

submitting said authorization request message to a payment network for authorization.

11. The method of claim 10, further comprising:

receiving, from said payment network, an authorization response message; and

completing said transaction based on said authorization response message.

12. A point of sale system, comprising:

a scanner, for scanning a dynamic bar code image from a display of a mobile device;

a computer processor for executing program instructions and for receiving the scanned dynamic bar code image from the scanner;

a memory, coupled to the computer processor, for storing program instructions for execution by the computer processor, said program instructions including instructions to convert said scanned dynamic bar code image into a payment authorization request message including a payment account number, an expiry date of said payment account number, and a dynamic verification code; and

a communication device, coupled to the computer processor, for transmitting said payment authorization request message to a payment network for authorization processing.

13. A mobile device, comprising:

a display device;

a data entry device;

a computer processor for executing program instructions, for receiving data from said data device and for displaying data on said display device;

a memory, coupled to the computer processor, for storing program instructions for execution by the computer processor, said program instructions including instructions to;

receive a request to conduct a payment transaction;

generate an optical image representing payment account information including a payment account number, an expiry date of said payment account number, and a dynamic verification code; and

display said optical image on said display device.

14. The mobile device of claim 13, wherein said memory further stores program instructions to increment a transaction counter for use in generating said dynamic verification code.

15. The mobile device of claim 13, wherein said memory further stores program instructions to:

request, in response to said request to conduct a payment transaction, information to authenticate an identity of a user.

16. The mobile device of claim 14, wherein said memory further stores program instructions to:

generate secondary payment account information; and

display said secondary payment account information on said display device.

17. The mobile device of claim 16, wherein both said secondary payment account information and said optical image are displayed on said display device.

18. The mobile device of claim 14, wherein said optical image is a bar code image.

19. The mobile device of claim 16, wherein said secondary payment account information includes a static virtual payment account number (“

VPAN”

), an expiry date of said static VPAN, and dynamic data.

20. The mobile device of claim 17, wherein at least one of said secondary payment account information and said optical image are presented to a merchant location to complete a payment transaction.
