Abstract

A method includes receiving first media data from a plurality of persons; identifying first media data generated within a window of time at a certain location and associating the identified first media data with an occurrence of a first event; determining which persons of the plurality of persons were present at the occurrence of the first event; and storing information related to the first event in association with information identifying those persons determined to be present at the occurrence of the first event. The method further includes, in response to receiving further media data from a plurality of persons, determining if the further media data was generated within a window of time at a certain location; determining based at least in part of the stored information if the certain location associated with the further media data is the same as the certain location associated with the first media data, and if at least some of the persons from which the further media data is received are the same as the persons from which the first media data was received and, if so, declaring that a second event is occurring that is related to the first event; and sending a notification of the occurrence of the second event to those persons who were determined to be present at the occurrence of the first event and who are determined to not currently be present at the occurrence of the second event.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

receiving first media data from a plurality of persons;

identifying first media data generated within a window of time at a certain location and associating the identified first media data with an occurrence of a first event;

determining which persons of the plurality of persons were present at the occurrence of the first event; and

storing information related to the first event in association with information identifying those persons determined to be present at the occurrence of the first event.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

in response to receiving further media data from a plurality of persons, determining if the further media data was generated within a window of time at a certain location;

determining based at least in part of the stored information if the certain location associated with the further media data is the same as the certain location associated with the first media data, and if at least some of the persons from which the further media data is received are the same as the persons from which the first media data was received and, if so, declaring that a second event is occurring that is related to the first event; and

sending a notification of the occurrence of the second event to those persons who were determined to be present at the occurrence of the first event and who are determined to not currently be present at the occurrence of the second event.

3. The method as in claim 1, where receiving occurs at least partially through a wireless communication network.

4. The method as in claim 1, where at least some of the media data is generated using a camera that comprises part of a mobile communication device.

5. The method as in claim 1, where at least the second event is a mobile event, and further comprising predicting a future location of the occurring second event.

6. The method as in claim 1, where at least the steps of identifying and determining use metadata associated with the media data.

7. The method as in claim 6, where the metadata comprises information descriptive of a location where the media data was generated, and information descriptive of a time that the media data was generated.

8. The method as in claim 6, where the metadata comprises information descriptive of an identification of a type of event.

9. The method of claim 2, where sending a notification comprises sending at least one stored image from the first event and at least one image related to the occurring second event.

10. The method of claim 2, where sending a notification comprises determining a current location of those persons determined to not currently be present at the occurrence of the second event.

11. The method of claim 5, where sending the notification comprises including at least one of a current location and the predicted future location of the second event.

12. A computer readable memory medium that stores computer program instructions, the execution of the computer program instructions resulting in operations that comprise:

receiving first media data from a plurality of persons;

identifying first media data generated within a window of time at a certain location and associating the identified first media data with an occurrence of a first event;

determining which persons of the plurality of persons were present at the occurrence of the first event; and

storing information related to the first event in association with information identifying those persons determined to be present at the occurrence of the first event.

13. The computer readable memory medium of claim 12, further comprising operations of:

in response to receiving further media data from a plurality of persons, determining if the further media data was generated within a window of time at a certain location;

determining based at least in part of the stored information if the certain location associated with the further media data is the same as the certain location associated with the first media data, and if at least some of the persons from which the further media data is received are the same as the persons from which the first media data was received and, if so, declaring that a second event is occurring that is related to the first event; and

sending a notification of the occurrence of the second event to those persons who were determined to be present at the occurrence of the first event and who are determined to not currently be present at the occurrence of the second event.

14. The computer readable memory medium as in claim 12, where receiving occurs at least partially through a wireless communication network.

15. The computer readable memory medium as in claim 12, where at least some of the media data is generated using a camera that comprises part of a mobile communication device.

16. The computer readable memory medium claim 12, where at least the second event is a mobile event, and further comprising predicting a future location of the occurring second event.

17. The computer readable memory medium claim 12, where at least the operations of identifying and determining use metadata associated with the media data.

18. The computer readable memory medium as in claim 17, where the metadata comprises information descriptive of a location where the media data was generated, and information descriptive of a time that the media data was generated.

19. The computer readable memory medium as in claim 17, where the metadata comprises information descriptive of an identification of a type of event.

20. The computer readable memory medium of claim 13, where sending a notification comprises sending at least one stored image from the first event and at least one image related to the occurring second event.

21. The computer readable memory medium of claim 13, where sending a notification comprises determining a current location of those persons determined to not currently be present at the occurrence of the second event.

22. The computer readable memory medium of claim 16, where sending the notification comprises including at least one of a current location and the predicted future location of the second event.

23. An apparatus, comprising a controller configured to operate with an input/output interface to receive first media data from a plurality of persons and to identify first media data that is generated within a window of time at a certain location, said controller being further configured to associate the identified first media data with an occurrence of a first event and to determine which persons of the plurality of persons were present at the occurrence of the first event and to store information related to the first event in association with information identifying those persons determined to be present at the occurrence of the first event.

The apparatus of claim 23, said controller being further configured to respond to a receipt of further media data from a plurality of persons to determine if the further media data was generated within a window of time at a certain location, and to determine, based at least in part of the stored information, if the certain location associated with the further media data is the same as the certain location associated with the first media data and, if at least some of the persons from which the further media data are received are the same as the persons from which the first media data was received to declare that a second event is occurring that is related to the first event, said controller being further configured to send a notification of the occurrence of the second event to those persons who were determined to be present at the occurrence of the first event and who are determined to not currently be present at the occurrence of the second event.

25. The apparatus as in claim 23, where said input/output interface is coupled to a wireless communication network.

26. The apparatus as in claim 23, where at least some of the media data is generated using a camera that comprises part of a mobile communication device.

27. The apparatus as in claim 23, where at least the second event is a mobile event, where said controller is further configured to predict a future location of the occurring second event, and when sending the notification to include at least one of a current location and the predicted future location of the second event.

28. The apparatus as in claim 23, where said controller considers metadata associated with the media data.

29. The apparatus as in claim 28, where the metadata comprises information descriptive of a location where the media data was generated, and information descriptive of a time that the media data was generated.

30. The apparatus as in claim 28, where the metadata comprises information descriptive of an identification of a type of event.

31. The apparatus of claim 24, where said controller when sending the notification is configured to send at least one stored image from the first event and at least one image related to the occurring second event.

32. The apparatus of claim 24, where said controller when sending the notification is further configured to determine a current location of those persons determined to not currently be present at the occurrence of the second event.
