Abstract

An electronic payment system is for a merchant server to transfer funds from a purchaser account to a merchant account, the merchant server to send a merchant transaction identification (ID) and transaction information. The electronic payment system includes a mobile wireless communications device to send a purchaser transaction ID and purchaser account access information. A payment processor server is to receive the purchaser transaction ID and purchaser account access information, and is also to send the transaction information to the mobile wireless communications device if the merchant transaction ID matches the purchaser transaction ID. The mobile wireless communications device is also to send confirmation of the transaction information to the payment processor server. The payment processor server is also to effect a transfer of funds from the purchaser account to the merchant account based upon the confirmation of the transaction information and the purchaser account access information.

Claims

1. An electronic payment system for a merchant server to transfer funds from a purchaser account to a merchant account, the merchant server configured to send a merchant transaction identification (ID) and transaction information, the electronic payment system comprising:

a mobile wireless communications device configured to send a purchaser transaction ID and purchaser account access information; and

a payment processor server configured to receive the purchaser transaction ID and purchaser account access information, and further configured to send the transaction information to said mobile wireless communications device if the merchant transaction ID matches the purchaser transaction ID;

said mobile wireless communications device also configured to send confirmation of the transaction information to said payment processor server;

said payment processor server also configured to effect a transfer of funds from the purchaser account to the merchant account based upon the confirmation of the transaction information and the purchaser account access information.

2. The electronic payment system of claim 1 wherein the merchant server is configured to send the merchant transaction ID and transaction information to a payment gateway;

and wherein said payment processor server is configured to receive the merchant transaction ID and transaction information via the payment gateway.

3. The electronic payment system of claim 1 wherein said payment processor server is configured to effect the transfer of funds by sending the transaction information and the purchaser account access information to a payment gateway.

4. The electronic payment system of claim 1 wherein said payment processor server is also configured to send completed transaction information, based upon the transfer of funds, to the merchant server and said mobile wireless communications device.

5. The electronic payment system of claim 1 wherein the transaction information comprises a merchant identifier and a transaction amount.

6. The electronic payment system of claim 5 wherein said mobile wireless communications device comprises a display configured to display the transaction amount and at least one input device configured to alter the transaction amount.

7. The electronic payment system of claim 1 wherein the purchaser account comprises a plurality of user accounts;

wherein said mobile wireless communications device comprises a display configured to display the plurality of user accounts and at least one input device configured to select the purchaser account from among the plurality of user accounts.

8. The electronic payment system of claim 1 wherein the purchaser account comprises at least one of a gift card account, a credit card account, a loyalty account, and a bank account.

9. The electronic payment system of claim 1 wherein said mobile wireless communications device and the merchant server communicate with said payment processor server via an encrypted Internet connection.

10. An electronic payment system to communicate with a payment gateway to thereby transfer funds from a purchaser account to a merchant account, the electronic payment system comprising:

a merchant server configured to send a merchant transaction identification (ID) and transaction information;

a mobile wireless communications device configured to send a purchaser transaction ID and purchaser account access information; and

a payment processor server configured to receive the purchaser transaction ID and purchaser account access information, and further configured to send the transaction information to said mobile wireless communications device if the merchant transaction ID matches the purchaser transaction ID;

said mobile wireless communications device also configured to send confirmation of the transaction information to said payment processor server;

said payment processor server also configured to effect a transfer of funds from the purchaser account to the merchant account based upon the confirmation of the transaction information and the purchaser account access information.

11. The electronic payment system of claim 10 wherein the merchant server is configured to send the merchant transaction ID and transaction information to a payment gateway;

and wherein said payment processor server is configured to receive the merchant transaction ID and transaction information via the payment gateway.

12. The electronic payment system of claim 10 wherein said payment processor server is configured to effect the transfer of funds by sending the transaction information and the purchaser account access information to a payment gateway.

13. The electronic payment system of claim 10 wherein said payment processor server is also configured to send completed transaction information, based upon the transfer of funds, to the merchant server and said mobile wireless communications device.

14. A payment processor server for a merchant server and a mobile wireless communications device to transfer funds from a purchaser account to a merchant account, the merchant server configured to send a merchant transaction identification (ID) and transaction information, the payment processor server comprising:

a processor and at least one communications interface cooperating therewith and configured to

receive a purchaser transaction identification (ID) and purchaser account access information from the mobile wireless communications device,

receive the merchant transaction ID and transaction information from the merchant server,

send the transaction information to the mobile wireless communications device if the merchant transaction ID matches the purchaser transaction ID,

receive confirmation of the transaction information from the mobile wireless communications device, and

effect a transfer of funds from the purchaser account to the merchant account based upon the confirmation of the transaction information and the purchaser account access information.

15. The payment processor server of claim 14 wherein the merchant server is configured to send the merchant transaction ID and transaction information to a payment gateway;

wherein said processor and said communications interface of the payment processor server are configured to receive the merchant transaction ID and transaction information via the payment gateway; and

wherein said processor and said communications interface of the payment processor server are also configured to effect the transfer of funds by sending the transaction information and the purchaser account access information to the payment gateway.

16. The payment processor server of claim 14 wherein said processor and said communications interface of the payment processor server are configured to send completed transaction information, based upon the transfer of funds, to the merchant server and the mobile wireless communications device.

17. The payment processor server of claim 14 wherein the transaction information comprises a merchant identifier and a transaction amount.

18. The payment processor server of claim 14 wherein the purchaser account comprises at least one of a gift card account, a credit card account, a loyalty account, and a bank account.

19. A method of operating a payment processing server to transfer funds from a purchaser account to a merchant account, the method comprising:

receiving a purchaser transaction identification (ID) and purchaser account access information from a mobile wireless communications device;

receiving a merchant transaction ID and transaction information from merchant server;

sending the transaction information to the mobile wireless communications device if the merchant transaction ID matches the purchaser transaction ID;

receiving confirmation of the transaction information from the mobile wireless communications device; and

effecting a transfer of funds from the purchaser account to the merchant account based upon the confirmation of the transaction information and the purchaser account access information.

20. The method of claim 19 wherein the merchant server is configured to send the merchant transaction ID and transaction information to a payment gateway;

and wherein the merchant transaction ID and transaction information are received from the payment gateway.

21. The method of claim 19 wherein the transfer of funds is effected by sending the transaction information and the purchaser account access information to a payment gateway.

22. The method of claim 19 further comprising sending completed transaction information, based upon the transfer of funds, to the merchant server and the mobile wireless communications device.

23. The method of claim 19 wherein the transaction information comprises a merchant identifier and a transaction amount.
