Abstract

Certain embodiments provide systems and methods for providing adaptive, work-centered healthcare services via an adaptive user interface. An example adaptive user interface system includes a user interface including clinical content retrieved from a plurality of clinical information sources for graphical display to a user. The user interface facilitates user interaction with the displayed clinical content, the clinical content including applications and patient data. The example system also includes an active listener agent monitoring the clinical content and user interaction with the clinical content transparently to the user to provide additional clinical content for user interaction via the user interface based on the monitored clinical content and user input.

Claims

1. An adaptive user interface system, said system comprising:

a user interface including clinical content retrieved from a plurality of clinical information sources for graphical display to a user, the user interface facilitating user interaction with the displayed clinical content, the clinical content including applications and patient data; and

an active listener agent monitoring the clinical content and user interaction with the clinical content transparently to the user to provide additional clinical content for user interaction via the user interface based on the monitored clinical content and user input.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the active listener agent operates in a background of at least one of a computing device and a software application to monitor user and content activity.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein a monitored application comprises a widget on a Web-accessible user interface.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the active listener agent identifies information and/or functionality important to a user based on a current context.

The system of claim 1, wherein, if the active listener agent detects that one or more data elements in the clinical content displayed on the user interface reaches a predetermined threshold, the active listener agent automatically places one or more widgets on the user interface that include additional relevant information to help enable the user to make a decision.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the active listener agent creates new content based on the displayed clinical content and the user interaction with the displayed clinical content.

7. The system of claim 6, wherein the active listener agent creates new content in response to the user moving displayed clinical content from a first application to a second application.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the active listener agent repositions in at least one of size and location clinical content on the user interface so that an arrangement of the clinical content signifies a different level of information usefulness in helping the user arrive at a conclusion.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the active listener agent provides additional clinical content based on historical data in additional to the displayed clinical content and user interaction with the content.

10. A method for adaptive user interfacing with clinical content, said method comprising:

retrieving clinical content from a plurality of clinical information sources, the clinical content including applications and patient data;

displaying the clinical content via a user interface for user review;

accepting user input in relation to the clinical content via the user interface;

monitoring, transparent to the user, the clinical content and user input; and

providing additional clinical content for user interaction via the user interface based on the monitored clinical content and user input.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the monitoring occurs in a background of at least one of a computing device and a software application to monitor user and content activity.

12. The method of claim 10, wherein a monitored application comprises a widget on a Web-accessible user interface.

13. The method of claim 10, further comprising identifying information and/or functionality important to a user based on a current context.

14. The method of claim 10, wherein monitoring and providing further comprise:

if one or more data elements in the clinical content displayed on the user interface reaches a predetermined threshold, one or more widgets are automatically placed on the user interface that include additional relevant information to help enable the user to make a decision.

15. The method of claim 10, wherein providing further comprises creating new content based on the displayed clinical content and the user input in relation to the displayed clinical content.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein new content is created in response to the user moving displayed clinical content from a first application to a second application.

17. The method of claim 10, wherein providing further comprises repositioning, in at least one of size and location, clinical content on the user interface so that an arrangement of the clinical content signifies a different level of information usefulness in helping the user arrive at a conclusion.

18. The method of claim 10, wherein providing further comprises providing additional clinical content based on historical data in additional to the displayed clinical content and user input.

19. A machine readable medium having a set of instructions for execution on a computing device, the set of instructions comprising:

a user interface module including clinical content retrieved from a plurality of clinical information sources for graphical display to a user, the user interface module facilitating user interaction with the displayed clinical content, the clinical content including applications and patient data; and

an active listener module monitoring the clinical content and user interaction with the clinical content transparently to the user to provide additional clinical content for user interaction via the user interface module based on the monitored clinical content and user input.

The machine readable medium of claim 19, wherein, if the active listener module detects that one or more data elements in the clinical content displayed via the user interface module reaches a predetermined threshold, the active listener module automatically provides one or more widgets via the user interface module that include additional relevant information to help enable the user to make a decision.
