1. A lead electrode assembly for use in an implantable defibrillator system, the lead electrode assembly comprising:
- an elongated lead having a first end for coupling with an implantable defibrillator and a second end for carrying an electrode, with one or more electrical conductors extending therein; and
an electrode assembly comprising an electrode having first and second faces, a backing layer adjacent to the second face of the electrode and a cover extending over the backing layer and covering a portion of the first face of the electrode;
wherein the electrode assembly is at the second end of the elongated lead; and
wherein the backing layer is precurved to create a radius of curvature of the electrode matching a desired portion of patient anatomy.
