Abstract

The present invention relates generally to signal processing of media content, e.g., audio or video content. One form of signal processing derives identifying information from media content. One claim recites a method including: upon encountering audio or video content, and using a programmed electronic processor, attempting to derive identifying information from data representing the encountered audio or video content; if a digital watermark is not obtained from the data representing the encountered audio or video content, modifying the encountered audio or video content; and then attempting to attempting to derive identifying information from data representing the modified audio or video content. Of course, other claims are provided too.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

(i) using a programmed electronic processor, embedding digital watermarking in data representing audio or video, the embedding alters the data;

(ii) using a programmed electronic processor, analyzing said embedded data to obtain the digital watermarking; and

repeating acts (i) and (ii) if the speed of obtaining the digital watermarking falls outside of a predetermined threshold.

2. A computer readable medium comprising instructions stored in memory, said instruction cause an electronic processor to perform the method of claim 1.

3. A programmed computing device comprising instructions stored in memory, said instructions cause said programmed computing device to perform the method of claim 1.

4. A method comprising:

providing digital watermark embedding results for display a computer-generated display,

said results including exceptions or embedding errors;

receiving user input associated with the digital watermark embedding results;

using at least a programmed electronic processor, carrying out digital watermark embedding on audio or video that is associated with the exceptions or embedding errors.

5. A computer readable medium comprising instructions stored in memory, said instruction cause an electronic processor to perform the method of claim 4.

6. A programmed computing device comprising instructions stored in memory, said instructions cause said programmed computing device to perform the method of claim 4.

7. A method comprising:

upon encountering audio or video content, and using a programmed electronic processor, attempting to detect a digital watermark hidden therein;

if a digital watermark is not obtained from the encountered audio or video content, modifying the encountered audio or video content; and

then

attempting to detect a digital watermark from the modified audio or video content.

8. The method of claim 7 in which said act of modifying the audio or video content utilizes a predetermined computer program.

9. The method of claim 7 in which said act of modifying the audio or video content descrambles the encountered audio or video content.

10. A computer readable medium comprising instructions stored in memory, said instruction cause an electronic processor to perform the method of claim 7.

11. A programmed computing device comprising instructions stored in memory, said instructions cause said programmed computing device to perform the method of claim 7.

12. A method comprising:

upon encountering audio or video content, and using a programmed electronic processor, attempting to derive identifying information from data representing the encountered audio or video content;

if a digital watermark is not obtained from the data representing the encountered audio or video content, modifying the encountered audio or video content; and

then

attempting to attempting to derive identifying information from data representing the modified audio or video content.

13. The method of claim 12 in which said act of modifying the encountered audio or video content utilizes a predetermined computer program.

14. The method of claim 12 in which said act of modifying the encountered audio or video content descrambles the encountered audio or video content.

15. A computer readable medium comprising instructions stored in memory, said instruction cause an electronic processor to perform the method of claim 12.

16. A programmed computing device comprising instructions stored in memory, said instructions cause said programmed computing device to perform the method of claim 12.
