Abstract

A method and system is provided to permit placing a wager on a pari-mutuel event in which expert handicapper'"'"'s prognoses are displayed to a player to permit them to formulate either simple or complicated exotic wagers, and to be able to aggregate a wager with those of other players to satisfy wagering minimums.

Claims

1. A system for placing a contest entry or wager, comprising:

a display for presenting an individual with an expert opinion on the outcome of a wager involving horse racing in terms of a wagering proposition, the presentation occurring prior to said individual placing said wager; and

;

a unit for placing said wager based on the presented wagering proposition including a device for selecting a wagering proposition to bet on such that various expert scenarios and expert analysis of the exotic wager are presented so that said individual can pick one amongst a few analysis results provided by said expert, whereby the probability of success of the wager is increased to the extent of the knowledge of the expert.

2. The system of claim 1, whereby said expert has his wager propositions or wagering information obtained from a racetrack totalisator system that outputs race information via a totalisator interface.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein said expert is a professional handicapper.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein said expert provides one or more wager propositions to be presented to the individual making the wager.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the probability of success for each of the wager propositions is calculated and displayed on said display to said individual.

6. The system of claim 2, wherein the expert analysis is translated into a ProPick wager or contest entry applicable for processing by a totalisator system.

7. The system of claim 2, and further including at least one database.

8. The system of claim 2, and further including a communications network for placing a contest entry or wager.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein said communications network includes the Internet.

10. The system of claim 1, and further including a system interface that automatically calculates the minimum wager applicable to a predefined wager amount.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein said system interface displays incremental wager amounts within a range as specified by an operator.

12. The system of claim 1, and further including a module for interfacing to a computerized pari-mutuel wagering system supporting Advance Deposit Wagering.

13. The system of claim 8, wherein said individual is in possession of an originating device capable of Short Message Service.

14. The system of claim 1, and further including at least one communications interface to facilitate the receipt and delivery of SMS communications from a plurality of originating devices.

15. The system of claim 1, and further including provisions of a date and time recordal of each communication between said individual, a system interface and an ADW system.

16. The system of claim 13, wherein said originating device has an ID number and wherein said ID number is associated with the wagering account number of individuals on the ADW system.

17. The system of claim 12 and further including a unit for creating a user account and establishes ongoing bilateral communications regarding the status and activity associated with the account.

18. The system of claim 1, wherein the results of multiple wagers for a number of individuals are aggregated over a period of time to attain an award or prize based upon a tiered structure of rewards.

19. The system of claim 1, wherein said wagering includes contests and wherein said contests award information and prize types are maintained in a database relating to legal jurisdictional contests, awards and prizes criteria.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein appropriate contest, award information and prize types are displayed only to individuals in an authorized jurisdiction.

21. The system of claim 19, wherein said display provides a contest, award status and instructional communications to said individual via SMS communications.

The system of claim 1, and further including a computerized system and methodology of interfacing to a computerized pari-mutuel wagering system supporting Advance Deposit Wagering, in which said individual is allowed to select a wagering proposition and amount from a range of wagering propositions and amounts offered by an ADW operator.

The system of claim 22, a module to invite said individual to select a particular wagering proposition by contacting a ADW operator via a digital device with a unique device ID and to place a wager on that proposition via an SMS communication to the operators of the ADW system via a System Interface, the System Interface being capable of receiving discreet receiving digital device ID'"'"'s from a plurality of devices, the system interface communicating the individual'"'"'s identity and offering a means to verify that identity and the wager proposition to the ADW system, the system interface communicating the status of the wager to said individual based upon information sent to, and received from, the ADW system.

24. The system of claim 22, wherein an individual'"'"'s eligibility to place a wager is determined by jurisdictional and other legal requirements that are maintained in a database relating to legal jurisdictional criteria.

25. The system of claim 22, and further including a facilitator to present wagering activity, current wager status and instructional communications to said individuals via SMS communications.

26. The system of claim 22 an authentifier for authentication of information of said individual including a password contained in the body of the SMS communication and extracted by a system interface and communicated to the ADW system for authentication.

27. The system of claim 22, wherein said system interface receives wagering instructions from said individual for a particular wagering proposition by the association of the destination device ID to a wagering proposition contained in a database.

28. The system of claim 22, wherein said system interface conveys wagering instructions to, and receives status messages from said ADW operator.

29. The system of claim 22, wherein the ability to facilitate wagering activity, current wager status and instructional communications to individuals occurs through the use of SMS communications.

30. The system of claim 22, wherein the amount of the wager is determined through its association with a destination device ID contained in a database.

31. The system of claim 22, wherein the amount of the wager is contained in the body of an SMS communication and extracted by a system interface and communicated to said ADW operator in conjunction with the wagering proposition for wager placement.

32. The system of claim 22 wherein a system interface receives wagering instructions from said individual for a particular handicapper by the association of a destination device ID to a handicapper contained in a database.

33. A system for placing a wager, comprising:

a display for presenting an individual with an expert opinion on the outcome of a wager on a horse that will win prior to said individual placing the wager; and

,

a unit for placing the wager based on various expert scenarios and expert analysis so as to permit said individual to pick one amongst a few analysis results provided by the expert, whereby the probability of success of the wager is increased to the extent of the knowledge of the expert.

34. The system of claim 33, wherein said expert is a professional handicapper.

35. The system of claim 33, wherein said expert provides at least two wagering propositions to be presented to the individual making the wager.

36. The system of claim 33, wherein the probability of success for each of the scenarios is indicated to said individual.

37. The system of claim 33, and further including a communications network to place a bet.

38. The system of claim 37, wherein said communications network includes the Internet.

39. A system that provides a player with the ability to place a wager at less than the full price of the wager as required by a pari-mutuel facility accepting the wager, comprising:

a unit for electronically aggregating the wagers of multiple players at a system interface such that the aggregate wager meets a minimum wager;

a module for electronically placing the aggregate wager as a single wager with a pari-mutuel facility; and

,

a distributor for proportionately distributing the proceeds derived from the aggregate wager among the multiple players.

40. A system for placing a wager, comprising:

a display for presenting an individual as a single wagering opportunity the outcome of a wager involving more than one horse within a single race, that will yield a return on the wager;

an aggregator for aggregating wagers from multiple players that would be less than the acceptable wager amount as required by a track for placement; and

,

a wager placing unit for placing the wagers so as to provide players with the ability to place wagers in various denominations where previously they would not have been accepted.

41. The system of claim 40 wherein said display presents an individual a single wagering opportunity for an exotic wager involving one or more horses over a span of two or more races at the same racetrack.

42. The system of claim 40, wherein said display presents said individual a single wagering opportunity for an exotic wager, with the outcome of the exotic wager involving one or more horses over a span of two or more races at the same racetrack in conjunction with the outcome of a wager involving one horse or more than one horse within a single race at the same racetrack.

The system of claim 40, wherein said display presents said individual a single wagering opportunity for an exotic wager involving one or more horses over a span of two or more races at the same racetrack in conjunction with the outcome of a wager involving one or more than one horse within a single race at a different racetrack

44. The system of claim 40, and further including a racetrack totalisator for obtaining wagering information via a totalisator interface.

45. The system of claim 40, wherein said display displays the probability of success for each of the wagering opportunities.

46. The system of claim 40, and further including a system interface for entering simple and exotic wagers for display to said individual as a single wager.

47. The system of claim 40, and further including at least one database.

48. The system of claim 40, and further including a communications network for placing said wager.

49. The system of claim 48, wherein the communications network includes the Internet.

50. The system of claim 46, and further including a system interface that automatically calculates and displays the minimum wager accepted by the track applicable to a predefined wager amount.

51. The system of claim 40, and further including a system interface and wherein partial wager costs for each wager are calculated by said system interface and are displayed to said individual.

52. The system of claim 40, wherein the anticipated partial wager amount payout for each wager is calculated by a system interface and indicated to said individual based upon the partial or incremental wager amount.

53. The system of claim 40, wherein said aggregator aggregates partial wagers into a total wager amount.

54. The system of claim 40, and further including an Advance Deposit Wagering operator that maintains an account and wherein said account is accessed to augment the aggregated partial wagers in order to fulfill the minimum wager amount required by a racetrack operator to accept the wager.

55. The system of claim 40, and further including a network for interfacing to a computerized pari-mutuel wagering system supporting Advance Deposit Wagering.

56. The system of claim 40, and further including a pari-mutuel wagering system into which a wager is placed, said pari-mutuel wagering system accepting the proceeds of successful wagers.

57. The system of claim 54, and further including a distributor for distributing the proceeds of successful wagers to players in an account maintained by said Advance Deposit Wagering operator.
