Abstract

The present invention relates to a mobile terminal which transfers or receives data, including location information, in various ways, and a method of transferring or receiving data using the same.

Claims

1. A mobile terminal for processing a message, comprising:

a communication unit;

a location information unit configured to manage at least one location information; and

a controller configured to obtain location information selected among the at least one location information and to transfer together a first file including the message and a second file including the selected location information through the communication unit, the first file being different from the second file.

2. The mobile terminal of claim 1, wherein the selected location information includes latitude and longitude information recorded in at least one predefined field within the second file.

3. The mobile terminal of claim 1, wherein the location information unit is further configured to obtain the location information by using one of the following:

a satellite system including at least one from among GPS, GALILEO, GLONASS, COMPASS, and QZSS;

communication with at least one base station included in a wireless communication system;

or communication with at least one access point included in a wireless LAN system.

4. A mobile terminal comprising:

a communication unit;

a location information unit configured to obtain current location information associated with the mobile terminal; and

a controller configured to obtain a receiver'"'"'s information for a message, to determine whether or not to transfer the current location information based on the receiver'"'"'s information, and to selectively transfer the current location information together with the message through the communication unit based on the determination result.

The mobile terminal of claim 4, wherein depending on the receiver'"'"'s information, the controller is configured to transfer the current location information according to the receiver automatically, to transfer the current location information after obtaining an approval from a user, or to abandon a transfer of the current location information.

6. The mobile terminal of claim 4, wherein the controller is further configured to set whether or not to transfer the current location information together with the message for each receiver included in a phonebook stored in the mobile terminal.

7. A mobile terminal for processing a message, the mobile terminal comprising:

a communication unit;

a location information unit configured to obtaining current location information associated with the mobile terminal, the obtained current location information having a first data size; and

a controller configured to reduce the first data size of the obtained current location information to have a second data size, and to transfer the message and the current location information having the second data size through the communication unit.

8. The mobile terminal of claim 7, wherein the controller changes the data size of the obtained current location information from the first data size to the second data size by reducing a data length of the obtained current location information.

9. The mobile terminal of claim 8, wherein the data length of the current location information is reduced by deleting one or more digits of the current location information, the one or more digits being deleted representing a common value.

The mobile terminal of claim 8, wherein the data length of the current location information is reduced by representing the location information as a difference between latitude and longitude coordinate values of a current location of the mobile terminal and latitude and longitude coordinate values of a predefined reference location.

11. The mobile terminal of claim 8, wherein the data length of the current location information is reduced by lowering precision of latitude and longitude coordinate values corresponding to a current location of the mobile terminal down to a predefined level.

12. A mobile terminal comprising:

a communication unit configured to receive at least one of a message and at least one location information;

a location information storage unit; and

a controller configured to automatically store the location information received from the communication unit into the location information storage unit for organizing the location information, if the communication unit receives the message with the location information.

13. The mobile terminal of claim 12, wherein the controller is configured to execute a first application among at least one application automatically or according to a command of a user, and to use the location information for carrying out a function provided by the first application.

14. The mobile terminal of claim 13, wherein the first application is either a communication application for transferring the location information to an external electronic device or a map application that can display the location information on a map.

15. The mobile terminal of claim 13, wherein the controller is configured to provide a user interface for receiving the command of the user.

16. A mobile terminal comprising:

a storage unit configured to store a plurality of different location information;

a local area communication module configured to communicate with an external electronic device by using a local area communication; and

a controller configured to transfer location information excluding current location information of the mobile terminal, to the external electronic device through the local area communication,

wherein the location information is particular location information selected among the plurality of different location information.

17. The mobile terminal of claim 16, wherein the external electronic device is an external electronic device selected among a plurality of different external electronic devices.

18. The mobile terminal of claim 16, further comprising a display unit,

wherein the controller is configured to display on the display unit a list of the plurality of different external electronic devices within a range of the local area communication.

19. The mobile terminal of claim 16, further comprising:

a display unit; and

a storage unit configured to store therein the plurality of different location information for selection,

wherein the controller is configured to display on the display unit a list of the plurality of different location information stored in the storage unit.

20. The mobile terminal of claim 19, wherein each of the displayed plurality of different location information includes at least one of the following:

latitude and longitude coordinate values of a corresponding location;

a geographical name corresponding to a corresponding location;

or

a storage destination of the corresponding location information within the mobile terminal.

21. The mobile terminal of claim 16, wherein the local area communication is any one of IrDA, Bluetooth, UWB, and ZigBee.

22. A mobile terminal comprising:

a radio communication unit;

a location information unit configured to obtain current location information of the mobile terminal;

a storage unit configured to store other location information; and

a controller configured to transfer location information selected among the current location information and the other location information to at least one external device through the radio communication unit.

The mobile terminal of claim 22, wherein the controller receives a location information request signal for the mobile terminal, selects location information about a current location of the mobile terminal or another location in accordance to the location information request signal, and transfers the selected location information through the radio communication.

24. The mobile terminal of claim 22, further comprising a display unit,

wherein the controller is configured to display on the display unit a list of a plurality of different location information stored in the storage unit, for a user'"'"'s selection so that the selected location information can be transferred to the at least one external device through the radio communication unit.

25. The mobile terminal of claim 24, wherein the list of the plurality of different location information is displayed in the order of transfer frequency or in the order of recent transfer.

26. The mobile terminal of claim 24, wherein the list of the plurality of different location information is displayed correspondingly on a map, and if particular displayed location information is selected from the map, the controller transfers this selected location information to the at least one external device through the radio communication unit.

27. The mobile terminal of claim 22, wherein the controller transfers the selected location information to the at least one external device along with any one of still image, video, or text.
