Abstract

The invention relates to an implant for blood vessels, in particular to influence the flow of blood in the area of arteriovenous malformations, with said implant having a wall comprising individual filaments combined so as to form a circular braiding, said circular braiding being positioned in elongated form and with a reduced diameter in an insertion catheter and expanding at the placement site thus adapting to the vessel diameter and increasing its braiding density.

Claims

1. Implant for blood vessels, in particular to influence the flow of blood in the area of arteriovenous malformations, with said implant having a wall comprising individual filaments combined so as to form a circular braiding, characterized in that the circular braiding is positioned in elongated form and with a reduced diameter in an insertion catheter and expands at the placement site thus adapting to the vessel diameter and increasing its braiding density.

2. Implant according to claim 1, characterized in that the filaments of the circular braiding have shape-memory properties.

3. Implant according to claim 2, characterized in that the filaments consist, at least partially, of nitinol.

Implant according to any one of the above claims, characterized in that at the proximal and/or distal end of the circular braiding the ends of the filaments are joined at least in pairs and connected with each other permanently, with the joined filament ends being formed such that they do not cause traumatic effects and designed as connecting elements for attachment to a retaining element.

5. Implant according to claim 4, characterized in that the filament ends are joined in pairs.

6. Implant according to claim 4 or 5, characterized in that the filament ends are welded to each other.

7. Implant according to any one of the above claims, characterized in that the circular braiding is of multi-plaited, especially of two-plaited design.

8. Implant according to any one of the above claims, characterized in that a folding number 2 applies to the filaments.

9. Implant according to claim 8, characterized in that the filament ends are connected with each other in pairs.

10. Implant according to any one of the above claims, characterized in that the filament ends are brought together in axial direction and connected with each other.

11. Implant according to any one of the above claims, characterized in that the filament ends are connected with each other by weld spots provided on the front faces.

12. Implant according to claim 11, characterized in that the filament ends are welded to each other so as to be level with each other.

13. Implant according to claim 11, characterized in that the filament ends are welded to each other so as to be of staggered arrangement in length.

14. Implant according to any one of the claims 9 to 13, characterized in that four or more filaments brought together parallelly on the same plane are welded to each other.

15. Implant according to any one of the above claims, characterized in that the braiding structure has a surface coverage achieved by the filaments in the range of between 30 and 80%.

16. Implant according to claim 15, characterized in that the surface coverage ranges between 40 and 70%.

17. Implant according to any one of the above claims, characterized in that the filaments of the circular braiding are coated with plastic material.

18. Implant according to any one of the claims 1 to 17, characterized in that the circular braiding is coated with a film or is provided with meshes filled with plastic material in whole or part.

19. Implant according to claim 18, characterized in that the film is provided with slots with a view to increasing its expansibility.

20. Implant according to any one of the above claims, characterized in that it is provided with at least one radiopaque marker material.

21. Implant according to claim 19, characterized in that the implant contains marker elements.

22. Implant according to any one of the above claims, characterized in that the marker elements are filaments made of platinum or platinum alloys woven into the circular braiding or surrounding the filaments of the circular braiding in a form resembling a helix.

23. Implant according to claim 22, characterized in that the connecting elements are ball-shaped terminations of defined diameter arranged at the ends of the filaments.

24. Implant according to claim 23, characterized in that the connecting elements are welded to the filament ends.

25. Combination of an implant according to any one of the claims 1 to 24 and a guide wire to which the implant is attached via the retaining element.

Combination according to claim 25, characterized in that the retaining element has a disk shape and on its periphery is provided with recesses which serve to accommodate the connecting elements of the implant, with the diameter of the retaining element being selected such that it can be passed through a catheter of customary design and the connecting elements being restrained and kept inside their recesses by the inner wall of the catheter.

Combination according to claim 25, characterized in that the retaining element has a disk shape and on its periphery is provided with recesses serving to accommodate connecting elements of the implant, with the connecting elements of the implant being restrained and kept inside their recesses by a retractable hose.

28. Combination according to claim 25 or 26, characterized in that the retaining element consists of two suitably spaced fixing elements which accommodate the implant in stretched form between them.

29. Combination according to claim 28, characterized in that the fixing elements are provided with separate guide wires by means of which the spacing of the fixing elements relative to each other can be adjusted.
