Abstract

Methods and systems for facilitating management of elastic applications in a wireless environment are provided. The methods and systems include determining a degree of elasticity for wireless applications having varying degrees of elasticity. Traffic entities generated by wireless application are then scheduled for transmission to an end user device as a function of the particular degree of elasticity corresponding to the wireless application.

Claims

1. A system that facilitates management of elastic applications in a wireless environment, comprising:

a processor configured to execute a set of computer-readable instructions;

a memory component coupled to the processor and configured to store the set of computer-readable instructions, the set of computer-readable instructions including at least one algorithm for determining a degree of elasticity for any of a plurality of wireless applications having varying degrees of elasticity and at least one algorithm for scheduling a transmission of traffic entities related to a particular wireless application as a function of a particular degree of elasticity corresponding to the particular wireless application; and

an interface component coupled to the processor and configured to transmit the traffic entities to an end user device according to the at least one scheduling algorithm.

2. The system of claim 1, the memory component further configured to store a set of tolerance data, the at least one algorithm for determining a degree of elasticity being at least partially dependent on the set of tolerance data.

3. The system of claim 2, the set of tolerance data including performance limitations of the end user device.

4. The system of claim 2, the set of tolerance data including a set of preferences corresponding to preferences entered by a user of the end user device.

5. The system of claim 2, the set of tolerance data including a set of preferences corresponding to an enterprise.

6. The system of claim 2, the set of tolerance data including data related to network policies.

7. The system of claim 6, the data related to network policies including data corresponding to a service level agreement.

8. The system of claim 2, the set of tolerance data including dynamic data related to network conditions at a given time.

9. The system of claim 1, the interface component further configured to receive a delivered set of traffic entities, the memory component further configured to store at least one algorithm for assembling the delivered set of traffic entities in a manner executable by the processor.

10. A method for facilitating management of elastic applications in a wireless environment, comprising:

executing computer-readable instructions stored in a memory component;

determining a degree of elasticity for any of a plurality of wireless applications having varying degrees of elasticity, the computer-readable instructions including an algorithm for determining the degree of elasticity; and

scheduling a transmission of traffic entities to an end user device, the traffic entities generated by a particular wireless application, the scheduling being a function of a particular degree of elasticity corresponding to the particular wireless application.

11. The method of claim 10 further comprising ascertaining a set of tolerance data, the scheduling step at least partially dependent on the set of tolerance data.

12. The method of claim 11 further comprising receiving data related to performance limitations of the end user device, the set of tolerance data including the data related to performance limitations of the end user device.

13. The method of claim 11 further comprising marking each of the traffic entities based in part on the set of tolerance data, the transmission of each of the traffic entities at least partially dependent on its marking.

14. The method of claim 13 further comprising ascertaining data related to Quality of Experience (QoE) and mapping each of the traffic entities to an appropriate QoE.

15. The method of claim 13 further comprising ascertaining data related to Quality of Service (QoS) and mapping each of the traffic entities to an appropriate QoS.

16. The method of claim 10 further comprising receiving a delivered set of traffic entities and assembling the delivered set of traffic entities in a manner executable by a processor.

17. The method of claim 16, the assembling step further comprising characterizing each of the delivered traffic entities.

18. The method of claim 10 further comprising receiving data related to a set of network mitigations, the scheduling step at least partially dependent on the set of network mitigations.

19. The method of claim 10 further comprising transmitting data related to a set of network mitigations, the set of network mitigations indicating at least one acceptable alternative format for receiving a delivered set of traffic entities.

20. A computer-implemented system that facilitates management of elastic applications in a wireless environment, comprising:

means for storing computer-readable instructions in a memory component, the computer-readable instructions including at least one algorithm for characterizing an elasticity for any of a plurality of wireless applications having varying degrees of elasticity, and at least one algorithm for transmitting traffic entities generated by a particular wireless application as a function of a particular degree of elasticity corresponding to the particular wireless application; and

means for transmitting the traffic entities to an end user device according to the at least one transmitting algorithm.
