Abstract

Systems, methods, and computer readable media for location-sensitive identifier translation in a telecommunications network are disclosed. According to one aspect, the subject matter described herein includes a method for providing location-sensitive called-party identifier translation in a telecommunications network. The method includes, at a signaling node that includes at least one processor: receiving a first signaling message that includes a called party identifier; determining proximity information associated with the calling party; performing a location-sensitive called party identifier translation based on the proximity information associated with the calling party; and sending the first signaling message or a second signaling message, the sent message including the translated called party identifier.

Claims

1. A method for providing location-sensitive called-party identifier translation in a telecommunications network, the method comprising:

at a signaling node that includes at least one processor;

receiving a first signaling message that includes a called party identifier;

determining proximity information associated with the calling party;

performing a location-sensitive called party identifier translation based on the proximity information associated with the calling party; and

sending the first signaling message or a second signaling message, the sent message including the translated called party identifier.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the signaling node comprises one of:

a signaling system 7 (SS7) signal transfer point (STP);

a session initiation protocol (SIP) routing node; and

a signaling gateway.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the first signaling message is a signaling system 7 (SS7) message comprising one of:

a call setup message;

a transaction capabilities application part (TCAP) query; and

a mobile application part (MAP) query.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the first signaling message is a session initiation protocol (SIP) message comprising one of:

a call setup message;

a SIP INVITE message; and

a SIP query message.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein determining the proximity information associated with the calling party comprises issuing one of:

a transaction capabilities application part (TCAP) query;

a mobile application part (MAP) query;

an intelligent network (IN) query;

a wireless intelligent network (WIN) query;

an advanced intelligent network (AIN) query; and

a customized applications for mobile networks enhanced logic (CAMEL) query.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein determining the proximity information associated with the calling party comprises using at least one of a calling party identifier and a switch identifier to query at least one of:

a number portability (NP) database;

an E.164 number mapping (ENUM) database;

a home location register (HLR);

a visitor location register (VLR);

a home subscriber server (HSS);

a location server;

a presence server; and

an origination point code (OPC) to routing number (RN) mapping function.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the proximity information associated with the calling party comprises at least one of:

a calling party number (CgPN);

a calling party identifier;

a calling party address;

a routing number;

a switch identifier;

a switch address;

a cell global identity;

a cell identifier;

a wireless local area network (WLAN) node identifier;

a digital subscriber line (DSL) location identifier;

an Ethernet location identifier; and

an integrated services digital network user part (ISUP) general address parameter (GAP).

8. The method of claim 1 wherein performing a location-sensitive called party number identifier translation based on the proximity information associated with the calling party comprises at least one of:

performing a toll-free query to a location-sensitive toll-free database; and

performing a E.164 number translation (ENUM) query to a location-sensitive ENUM database.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein sending the first signaling message comprises modifying the first signaling message to include the translated called party identifier and forwarding the first signaling message to a destination of the first message.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein sending the second message comprises sending the second message to the source of the first message.

11. The method of claim 1 wherein sending the second message comprises sending the second message to a destination of the first message.

24. The method of claim 1 wherein the called party identifier comprises a called party number.

12. A system for providing location-sensitive called-party identifier translation in a telecommunications network, the system comprising:

a signaling node for receiving a first signaling message that includes a called party identifier; and

a proximity processing module operatively associated with the signaling node for determining proximity information associated with the calling party, for performing a location-sensitive called party identifier translation based on the proximity information associated with the calling party, and for sending the first signaling message or a second signaling message, the sent message including the translated called party identifier.

13. The system of claim 12 wherein the signaling node comprises one of:

a signaling system 7 (SS7) signal transfer point (STP);

a session initiation protocol (SIP) routing node; and

a signaling gateway.

14. The system of claim 12 wherein the first signaling message is a signaling system 7 (SS7) message comprising one of:

a call setup message;

a transaction capabilities application part (TCAP) query; and

a mobile application part (MAP) query.

15. The system of claim 12 wherein the first signaling message is a session initiation protocol (SIP) message comprising one of:

a call setup message;

a SIP INVITE message; and

a SIP query message.

16. The system of claim 12 wherein the proximity processing module determines the proximity information associated with the calling party by issuing one of:

a transaction capabilities application part (TCAP) query;

a mobile application part (MAP) query;

an intelligent network (IN) query;

a wireless intelligent network (WIN) query;

an advanced intelligent network (AIN) query; and

a customized applications for mobile networks enhanced logic (CAMEL) query.

17. The system of claim 12 wherein the proximity processing module determines the proximity information associated with the calling party by using at least one of a calling party identifier and a switch identifier to query at least one of:

a number portability (NP) database;

an E.164 number mapping (ENUM) database;

a home location register (HLR);

a visitor location register (VLR);

a home subscriber server (HSS);

a location server;

a presence server; and

an origination point code (OPC) to routing number (RN) mapping function.

18. The system of claim 12 wherein the proximity information associated with the calling party comprises at least one of:

a calling party number (CgPN);

a calling party identifier;

a calling party address;

a routing number;

a switch identifier;

a switch address;

a cell global identity;

a cell identifier;

a wireless local area network (WLAN) node identifier;

a digital subscriber line (DSL) location identifier;

an Ethernet location identifier; and

an integrated services digital network user part (ISUP) general address parameter (GAP).

19. The system of claim 12 wherein the proximity processing module performs a location-sensitive called party identifier translation based on the proximity information associated with the calling party by at least one of:

performing a toll-free query to a location-sensitive toll-free database; and

performing a E.164 number translation (ENUM) query to a location-sensitive ENUM database.

20. The system of claim 12 wherein the proximity processing module sends the first signaling message by modifying the first signaling message to include the translated called party identifier and forwarding the first signaling message to a destination of the first message.

21. The system of claim 12 wherein the proximity processing module sends the second message by sending the second message to the source of the first message.

22. The system of claim 12 wherein the proximity processing module sends the second message by sending the second message to a destination of the first message.

25. The system of claim 12 wherein the called party identifier comprises a called party number.

23. A computer readable medium having stored thereon executable instructions that when executed by the processor of a computer control the computer to perform steps comprising:

receiving a first signaling message that includes a called party identifier;

determining proximity information associated with the calling party;

performing a location-sensitive called party identifier translation based on the proximity information associated with the calling party; and

sending the first signaling message or a second signaling message, the sent message including the translated called party identifier.
