Abstract

The present technology enables data communication between a kettle body and a power base of a cordless kettle. This enables a user to view kettle data and control functions or parameters such as temperature, from the power base of a cordless kettle.

Claims

1. A cordless kettle and base for supplying power to that kettle, wherein:

the base has a first electrical power supply coupling that cooperates with a second power coupling on the kettle;

the base and kettle being adapted to engage in a transmission of data signals that are delivered through the first and second power supply couplings.

2. The cordless kettle and base of claim 1, wherein:

the base further comprises user controls whose inputs can be interpreted as commands by a processor located in the base, the commands being used to control the kettle via the first and second power supply couplings.

3. The cordless kettle and base of either of claim 1 or 2, wherein:

the transmission of data signals is bi-directional.

4. The cordless kettle of any one of claims 1-3, wherein:

the data signals are encoded in a power wave form.

5. The cordless kettle of any one of claims 1-3, wherein:

the couplings have at least 5 poles and the data signals are transmitted by two of the poles.

6. The cordless kettle of any one of claims 1-5, wherein:

the kettle further comprises a thermistor having an output and the output is encoded and transmitted as feedback to the base by the kettle, the feedback used to control a heating element in the kettle according to a user selected temperature.

7. The cordless kettle of any one of claims 1-6, wherein:

the kettle further comprises a motorised component that is controlled by commands transmitted to the kettle by the base.

8. The cordless kettle of any one of claims 1-7, wherein:

the data signals comprise low voltage pulse width modulated digital data with a high frequency carrier.

12. The cordless kettle of any one of claims 1-11, wherein:

the kettle is a 360°

kettle.

13. The cordless kettle of any one of claims 1-12, wherein:

the base further comprises exterior user controls and a display area, the display area adapted to cooperate with a processor in the base to display beverage settings.

9. A cordless kettle and base for supplying power to that kettle, wherein:

the base has a first electrical power supply coupling that cooperates with a second power coupling on the kettle;

the base and kettle being adapted to engage in a transmission of data signals that are delivered wirelessly and not through the first and second power couplings.

10. The cordless kettle of claims 9, wherein:

the base and kettle each comprise an RF transmitter and RF receiver through which the transmission occurs.

11. The cordless kettle of claims 9, wherein:

the base and kettle each comprise an infra-red transmitter and infra-red receiver through which the transmission occurs.
