1. A method of carrying out electroporation of tissue, comprising:

  • inserting an electrically conductive gel into a vessel of a patient wherein the gel has a predetermined conductivity relative to surrounding tissue;

    placing an electrically conductive metal structure in the gel;

    positioning an electrode so that tissue to be electroporated is positioned between the gel and the electrode;

    applying current across the tissue to be electroporated in an amount so that cells of the tissue are subjected to electroporation.
