Abstract

An operations support system for an engine includes a diagnostics unit configured to receive engine data from the engine and to generate condition indicators based on the engine data using a thermodynamic model. The thermodynamic model is based on component maps associated with the engine. The system further includes a fault classification unit coupled to the diagnostic unit and configured to generate health indicators based on the condition indicators.

Claims

1. An operations support system for an engine, comprising:

a diagnostics unit configured to receive engine data from the engine and to generate condition indicators based on the engine data using a thermodynamic model, the thermodynamic model being based on component maps associated with the engine; and

a fault classification unit coupled to the diagnostic unit and configured to generate health indicators based on the condition indicators.

10. The operations support system of claim 1, further comprising a signal conditioning unit coupled to the diagnostics unit, the signal conditioning unit configured to condition the engine data and provide the conditioned engine data to the diagnostics unit.

11. The operations support system of claim 1, further comprising a graphical user interface coupled to the fault classification unit and configured to display the health indicators.

12. The operations support system of claim 11, wherein the graphical user interface is configured to display the health indicators for individual components of the engine.

2. The operations support system of claim 2, wherein the diagnostics unit is further configured to generate scalars based on the engine data.

3. The operations support system of claim 2, wherein the diagnostics unit is further configured to adjust the thermodynamic model based on the scalars.

4. The operations support system of claim 2, wherein the thermodynamic model is an engine-specific model.

5. The operations support system of claim 2, wherein at least a portion of the scalars represent erosion within the engine.

6. The operations support system of claim 2, further comprising a scalar unit coupled to the fault classification unit and configured to store the scalars.

7. The operations support system of claim 6, wherein the scalar unit is further configured to bin the scalars as historical scalars.

8. The operations support system of claim 7, further comprising a data fusion unit coupled to the fault classification unit and the scalar unit, the data fusion unit configured to fuse the historical scalars and the health indicators to generate a fault confidence associated with the health indicators.

9. The operations support system of claim 8, wherein the data fusion unit is further configured to generate severity information for the health indicators associated with the engine.

13. A method for supporting operations of an engine, comprising:

collecting engine data;

generating condition indicators from the engine data using a thermodynamic model based on component maps associated with the engine;

generating health indicators from the condition indicators, the health indicators including diagnostic information; and

displaying the health indicators on a graphical user display.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising generating scalars from the engine data using the thermodynamic model.

15. The method of claim 14, further comprising modifying the thermodynamic model based on the scalars.

16. The method of claim 14, wherein the generating scalars step includes generating at least some scalars corresponding to erosion within the engine.

17. The method of claim 14, further comprising binning the scalars as historical data.

18. The method of claim 17, further comprising fusing the historical scalars and the health indicators.

19. The method of claim 18, further comprising generating fault confidences based on the fused historical scalars and the health indicators.

20. An operations support system for an engine, comprising:

a diagnostics unit configured to receive engine data from the engine and to generate condition indicators based on the engine data using a thermodynamic model, the thermodynamic model being based on component maps associated with the engine, the diagnostics unit further configured to generate scalars based on the engine data and to adjust the thermodynamic model based on the scalars, at least a portion of the scalars representing erosion within the engine;

a fault classification unit coupled to the diagnostic unit and configured to generate health indicators based on the condition indicators;

a scalar unit coupled to the fault classification unit and configured to store and bin the scalars;

a data fusion unit coupled to the fault classification unit and the scalar unit, the data fusion unit configured to fuse the historical scalars and the health indicators to generate a fault confidence associated with the health indicators; and

a graphical user interface coupled to the data fusion unit and configured to display the health indicators.
