1. A method for at least one user to complete a transaction using a hand-held mobile device as part of a system that also includes a point-of-sale terminal, a transaction server, and a management server, at least one of the hand-held mobile devices having associated therewith a telephone number, a processor, a visual display coupled to the processor using a display connection, a secure element that has an identification code stored therein, the secure element being adapted to transmit an identification code signal that has the identification code therein over a first communication channel to any of a plurality of point-of-sale terminals, and a radio transceiver adapted to send outgoing voice and data signals and receive incoming voice and data signals over a second communication channel that is different than the first communication channel, wherein the radio transceiver is coupled to the processor using a wired connection, and wherein a management server that receives the identification code and accesses a database indicating correspondence of the identification code and the telephone number of the hand-held mobile device is adapted to initiate transmission over the second communication channel, the method comprising the steps of:
- initiating the transaction without using the processor, without using the visual display, and without using the radio transceiver, the step of initiating including wirelessly providing the identification code stored on the secure element to any one of the plurality of point-of-sale terminals using the first communication channel, the identification code associated with the user of the hand-held mobile device;
receiving certain transaction data associated with the transaction at the second transceiver over the second communication channel; and
displaying at least some of the certain transaction data on the visual display associated with the hand-held mobile device.

Abstract
The present invention provides a method and apparatus for completing a transaction using a wireless mobile communication channel and another communication channel, particularly another communication channel that provides for near field radio channels (NFC), as well as other communication channels, such as Bluetooth or WIFI. The present invention also provides a method of completing a transaction in which a management server assists a transaction server and a point of sale terminal in forwarding transaction information to a hand-held mobile device, with the transaction having originated from the hand-held mobile device. There is also provided a hand-held mobile device that wirelessly communicates between a secure element and a radio element that are associated with the hand-held mobile device.

initiating the transaction without using the processor, without using the visual display, and without using the radio transceiver, the step of initiating including wirelessly providing the identification code stored on the secure element to any one of the plurality of point-of-sale terminals using the first communication channel, the identification code associated with the user of the hand-held mobile device; receiving certain transaction data associated with the transaction at the second transceiver over the second communication channel; and displaying at least some of the certain transaction data on the visual display associated with the hand-held mobile device.

2. The method according to claim 1 further including a step of the transmitting, from the hand-held mobile device directly to another hand-held mobile device at least a portion of data associated with the certain transaction data.

5. The method according to claim 6 wherein the tag of the secure element is an adhesive tag secured to an external surface of the body of the hand-held mobile device.

An apparatus that is used in a system for assisting a user to complete a transaction initiated by transmission of an identification code over a first communication channel to a point-of-sale terminal and completion being indicated by receipt of certain transaction data over a second communication channel that is different from the first communication channel that is initiated by a management server that receives the identification code and contains a database indicating correspondence of the identification code and the telephone number of the hand-held mobile device, the apparatus comprising:

a hand-held mobile device having the telephone number associated therewith, the hand-held mobile device having; a processor; a secure element that has the identification code stored therein that allows for identification by the management server of the telephone number of the hand-held mobile device, the secure element being adapted to transmit an identification code signal that has the identification code therein over the first communication channel to the point-of-sale terminal without using the processor; a radio transceiver coupled to the processor and adapted to send outgoing voice and data signals and receive incoming voice and data signals over the second communication channel, the incoming and outgoing data signals including the certain transaction data associated with the transaction, wherein the radio transceiver is not used to transmit the identification code signal that has the identification code therein over the first communication channel; and a visual display coupled to the processor and adapted to display some of the certain transaction data upon receipt thereof by the radio transceiver and the processor, wherein the visual display is not used to transmit the identification code signal that has the identification code therein over the first communication channel.

18. The apparatus according to claim 19 wherein secure element is disposed on an adhesive tag secured externally to the body of the hand-held mobile device.

The apparatus according to claim 19 wherein the processor is implemented as a radio processor coupled to the radio transceiver and is internally disposed within a body of the hand-held mobile device, wherein the secure element includes a secure processor and is disposed within a slot that exists on the body of the hand-held mobile device, and wherein the secure processor communicates transaction signals to the radio processor using a wired communication channel for usage with a transaction application executed by the radio processor.
