Abstract

Methods of applications of organosilanes optionally having a nonhydrolyzable organic group, but having one or more hydrolyzable groups, with a polyol containing at least three hydroxy groups, where any two of the hydroxy groups are separated by at least three intervening atoms by aerosolization of droplets between 0.5-8 microns are disclosed and an improved formulation comprising adding a nonionic wetting agent are disclosed. An improved aerosolization application technique and the improved formulation provide for smaller droplet size and better coverage of substrates to which the organosilanes are applied. The improved formulation has increased affinity, reduces surface tension and therefore can covalently bond more quickly. A method of treating a substrate, and the treated substrate so formed, by contacting the substrate with the improved formulation for a period of time sufficient for treatment of the substrate are disclosed.

Claims

1. A formulation comprising an organosilane optionally having a nonhydrolyzable organic group, but having one or more hydrolyzable groups, with a polyol containing at least three hydroxy groups, where any two of the hydroxy groups are separated by at least three intervening atoms microbiostatic agent composition, a solution of a silicone quaternary ammonium salt;

and a non-ionic wetting agent selected from the group consisting of, ethoxylated alcohols;

ethoxylated nonyl phenol(s); and

ethoxylated alkyl phenol(s).

2. The formulation of claim 1, wherein said non-ionic wetting agent has ethoxylation between 9 and 12 moles.

3. The formulation of claim 2, wherein said non-ionic wetting agent is selected from the group consisting of:

Ethoxylated Nonyl Phenol 9-12 moles, Ethoxylate, Ethoxylated Alcohol 9-12 moles and Ethoxylate, and Ethoxylated Alkyl Phenols 9-12 moles.

4. The formulation of claim 3, wherein said non-ionic wetting agent is Ethoxylated Nonyl Phenol 10 moles EO

A product made according to the steps of aerosolizing an organosilane optionally having a nonhydrolyzable organic group, but having one or more hydrolyzable groups, with a polyol containing at least three hydroxy groups, where any two of the hydroxy groups are separated by at least three intervening atoms microbiostatic agent composition, comprising (a) a solution of a silicone quaternary ammonium salt;

and (b) a non-ionic wetting agent selected from Ethoxylated Nonyl Phenol 9-12 moles, Ethoxylate, Ethoxylated Alcohol 9-12 moles and Ethoxylate, and Ethoxylated Alkyl Phenols 9-12 moles spraying on substrate in need of treatment to form a treated substrate and allowing said treated substrate to dry to form said product.

6. The product of claim 5, wherein aerosolization is accomplished via an aerosolization apparatus utilizes ultrasonic energy to form 1 to 8 micron particles.

7. A product according to claim 5, wherein said substrate is a fabric selected from nonwoven fabric, woven fabric, nano fibers, microfibers, synthetic substrates, polymers, polypropylene;

polystyrene;

polyethylene rayon, and nirtil

8. A product according to claim 5, wherein said substrate is a solid surface.

9. A product according to claim 5, wherein said substrate is an organic surface.

10. A product according to claim 5, wherein the substrate is moving during application and is contained in a box with a heater.

11. The product of claim 6, wherein aerosolization is accomplished via an aerosolization apparatus utilizes ultrasonic energy to form 1 to 8 micron particles.

12. A product according to claim 6, wherein said substrate is a fabric selected from nonwoven fabric, woven fabric, nano fibers, microfibers, synthetic substrates, polymers, polypropylene;

polystyrene;

polyethylene. rayon, and nirtil.

13. A product according to claim 6, wherein said substrate is a solid surface.

14. A product according to claim 6, wherein said substrate is an organic surface.

15. A product according to claim 6, wherein the substrate is moving during application and is contained in a box with a heater.

16. The product according to claim 5, wherein the substrate is a synthetic extruded polymer

17. The product according to claim 6, wherein the substrate is a synthetic extruded polymer

18. The product according to claim 16, wherein said synthetic extruded polymers are selected from polypropylene;

polystyrene and nitril.

19. The product according to claim 16, wherein said synthetic extruded polymers are selected from polypropylene;

polystyrene and nitril

20. The product according to claim 5, comprising a medical filtration material.

21. The product according to claim 6, comprising a medical filtration material.

22. The product according to claim 5, comprising treated athletic gear, including but not limited to shoulder pads, helmets, shin guards, forearm guards, kidney protector pads;

footwear;

wrist guards, ankle guards yoga mats, wrestling mats, wall mats;

fitness and workout mats, padding synthetic grass materials and backing comprised of but not limited to polypropylene blades, rubber and sand based filler materials

23. The product according to claim 6, comprising treated athletic gear, including but not limited to shoulder pads, helmets, shin guards, forearm guards, kidney protector pads;

footwear;

wrist guards, ankle guards yoga mats, wrestling mats, wall mats;

fitness and workout mats, padding synthetic grass materials and backing comprised of but not limited to polypropylene blades, rubber and sand based filler materials

The product according to claim 5, comprising treated textiles, having a fabric covalently bonded to an organosilane optionally having a nonhydrolyzable organic group, but having one or more hydrolyzable groups, with a polyol containing at least three hydroxy groups, where any two of the hydroxy groups are separated by at least three intervening atoms microbiostatic agent composition, comprising:

(a) a solution of a silicone quaternary ammonium salt; and

(b) a non-ionic wetting agent, comprising tergitol NP-10.

25. The product according to claim 5, comprising a hand treating composition incorporated into a liquid solution comprising combination solutions of alcohols, aloe, or natural based oils

26. The product according to claim 25, wherein said liquid is infused into a non-woven hand wipe material.

A product made according to the steps of exhausting, an organosilane optionally having a nonhydrolyzable organic group, but having one or more hydrolyzable groups, with a polyol containing at least three hydroxy groups, where any two of the hydroxy groups are separated by at least three intervening atoms microbiostatic agent composition, comprising (a) a solution of a silicone quaternary ammonium salt;

and (b) a non-ionic wetting agent selected from Ethoxylated Nonyl Phenol 9-12 moles, Ethoxylate, Ethoxylated Alcohol 9-12 moles and Ethoxylate, and Ethoxylated Alkyl Phenols 9-12 moles.

A product made according to the steps of wet padding onto textiles an organosilane optionally having a nonhydrolyzable organic group, but having one or more hydrolyzable groups, with a polyol containing at least three hydroxy groups, where any two of the hydroxy groups are separated by at least three intervening atoms microbiostatic agent composition, comprising (a) a solution of a silicone quaternary ammonium salt;

and (b) a non-ionic wetting agent selected from Ethoxylated Nonyl Phenol 9-12 moles, Ethoxylate, Ethoxylated Alcohol 9-12 moles and Ethoxylate, and Ethoxylated Alkyl Phenols 9-12 moles.

29. A method for applying an organosilane optionally having a nonhydrolyzable organic group, but having one or more hydrolyzable groups, with a polyol containing at least three hydroxy groups, where any two of the hydroxy groups are separated by at least three intervening atoms microbiostatic agent composition, comprising:

(a) a solution of a silicone quaternary ammonium salt; and

a non-ionic wetting agent selected from Ethoxylated Nonyl Phenol 9-12 moles, Ethoxylate, Ethoxylated Alcohol 9-12 moles and Ethoxylate, and Ethoxylated Alkyl Phenols 9-12 moles, said method selected from aerosolization, exhaustion, wet padding, pressure spraying, soaking dipping, rolling and brushing.

30. The method of claim 29, comprising aerosolization with an apparatus which provides droplets in the range of 1 to 8 microns.

31. The method of claim 30, wherein said apparatus provides droplets in the range of 0.5 to 5 microns.

32. The method of claim 29, further comprising use for treating substrates in the medical industry.

33. The method of claim 29, wherein said substrates in the medical industry are selected from:

plastics, fabrics, metal surfaces, polymeric surfaces, non woven textiles, woven textiles, viscose substrates, topical hygienic formulations, nano and microfiber particles and materials, rubber and digital transmission surfaces

34. The method of claim 29, further comprising use for treating substrates in the agribusiness.

35. The method of claim 29, further comprising use for treating athletic equipment.

36. The method of claim 29, wherein a treated substrate is formed, by contacting the substrate with the formulation for a period of time sufficient for covalent bonding with the substrate to occur, thus providing said substrate with antimicrobial properties.
