1. A device for pulling a length of wire out of a tube, comprising:
- i) a reel for receiving the length of wire;
ii) a frame to which the reel is mounted, the frame including an abutment for the tube;
iii) a manually operable slider mounted to the frame for reciprocatory translational movement in a pull and return stroke;
iv) a one-way connection between the slider and the reel, whereby on the pull stroke of the slider, the reel is caused by the pull stroke to rotate about an axis in a direction that winds a portion of the length of wire onto the reel and, on the return stroke, allows the slider to return to the start of the pull stroke without reverse rotation of the reel; and
v) a detent, that restrains the reel from said reverse rotation during said reverse stroke.

Abstract
A hand-held actuator device for releasing into the body from a delivery system a medical prosthesis, like a stent, comprising a frame (10) that acts as a housing, a reel (30) for receiving a wire (8), a manually operable slider (34) mounted to the frame and a one-way connection between the slider and the reel. Actuating the slider causes the reel to wind up the wire and release the medical prosthesis.

16. A device for pulling a length of wire out of a tube, comprising:
-
i) a reel for receiving the length of wire and means for fixing one end of the wire to the reel; ii) a frame to which the reel is mounted, the frame including an abutment (12) for the tube; iii) a manually operable slider mounted to the frame for reciprocatory translational movement in a pull and return stroke; iv) a one-way connection between the slider and the reel, whereby on the pull stroke of the slider, the reel is caused by the pull stroke to rotate about an axis in a direction that winds a portion of the length of wire onto the reel and, on the return stroke, allows the slider to return to the start of the pull stroke without reverse rotation of the reel; said one-way connection comprising teeth on the slider and co-operating teeth on a rotatory element operatively connected to the reel, wherein the teeth on the slider and the teeth on the rotatory element engage with each other on the pull stroke and slip over each other in the reverse direction; v) a detent that restrains the reel from said reverse rotation during said reverse stroke. - View Dependent Claims (17)

18. A device for pulling a length of wire out of a tube, comprising:
-
i) a reel for receiving the length of wire and means for fixing one end of the wire to the reel; ii) a frame to which the reel is mounted, the frame including an abutment for the tube; iii) a first hub mounted at the distal end of the frame to receive the proximal end of the tube; iv) a manually operable slider mounted to the frame for reciprocatory translational movement in a pull and return stroke; v) a one-way connection between the slider and the reel, whereby on the pull stroke of the slider, the reel is caused by the pull stroke to rotate about an axis in a direction that winds a portion of the length of wire onto the reel and, on the return stroke, allows the slider to return to the start of the pull stroke without reverse rotation of the reel; vi) a detent, that restrains the reel from said reverse rotation during said reverse stroke. - View Dependent Claims (19)

20. A pull wire system for deploying a trans-luminal, catheter-mounted, self-expanding stent by pulling a length of wire out of a tube, comprising:
-
i) a reel for receiving the length of wire and means for fixing one end of the wire to the reel; ii) a frame which the reel is mounted, the frame including an abutment for the tube; iii) a manually operable slider mounted to the frame for reciprocatory translational movement in a pull and return stroke; iii) a first hub mounted at the distal end of the frame to receive the proximal end of the tube; iv) a one-way connection between the slider and the reel, whereby on the pull stroke of the slider, the reel is caused by the pull stroke to rotate about an axis in a direction that winds a portion of the length of wire onto the reel and, on the return stroke, allows the slider to return to the start of the pull stroke without reverse rotation of the reel; said one-way connection comprising teeth on the slider and co-operating teeth on a rotatory element operatively connected to the reel, wherein the teeth on the slider and the teeth on the rotatory element engage with each other on the pull stroke and slip over each other in the reverse direction; vi) a detent, that restrains the reel from said reverse rotation during said reverse stroke. - View Dependent Claims (21)
