Abstract

A method and an apparatus for allocating a resource in a broadband wireless communication system are provided. In the method, a Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) level set and a burst size set to generate a codebook is determined. The codebook is generated using the MCS level set and the burst size set. Resource allocation information is one of generated and read according to the codebook.

Claims

1. A method for operating a wireless node in a broadband wireless communication system, the method comprising:

determining a Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) level set and a burst size set to generate a codebook;

generating the codebook using the MCS level set and the burst size set; and

one of generating and reading resource allocation information according to the codebook.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the generating of the codebook comprises loading a codebook corresponding to the MCS level set and the burst size set from a plurality of codebooks defined in advance.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the generating of the codebook comprises:

determining resource sizes of combinations of MCS levels and burst sizes using the MCS level set and the burst size set; and

generating a codebook indicating the combinations.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the generating of the codebook comprises:

generating a table comprising all combinations of MCS levels and burst sizes;

removing useless combinations where an MCS level difference does not have an influence on a resource size by removing the rest of the combinations excluding a combination having a lowest MCS level from combinations requiring the same resource size with respect to each burst size; and

assigning codes to remaining respective effective combinations.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein a length of each code comprises one of Ceil{log₂(the number of effective combinations)} and a value defined in advance.

6. The method of claim 4, wherein the assigning of the codes comprises assigning codes to combinations starting from a combination having a lowest MCS level and a smallest burst size according to an ascending order.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the wireless node comprises a terminal, and

wherein the reading of the resource allocation information according to the codebook comprises:

searching for a code included in the resource allocation information inside the codebook; and

determining an MCS level and a resource size corresponding to the found code.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the wireless node comprises a base station, and

wherein the generating of the resource allocation information according to the codebook comprises:

allocating a resource within a range of MCS levels and resource sizes included in the codebook;

searching for a code corresponding to a combination of the allocated MCS level and the allocated resource size; and

generating resource allocation information comprising the found code.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the wireless node comprises a terminal, and

wherein the determining of the MCS level set and the burst size set comprises:

determining an MCS set identifier and a burst size set identifier included in a group configuration message received from a base station; and

determining an MCS level set corresponding to the MCS set identifier and a burst size set corresponding to the burst size set identifier among MCS level sets and burst size sets defined in advance.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the wireless node comprises a terminal, and

wherein the determining of the MCS level set and the burst size set comprises:

obtaining information of MCS level sets and burst size sets via a broadcasting message received from a base station;

determining an MCS set identifier of a group and a burst size set identifier of the group included in a group configuration message received from the base station; and

determining an MCS level set corresponding to the MCS set identifier and a burst size set corresponding to the burst size set identifier among the MCS level sets and the burst size sets obtained via the broadcasting message.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the reading of the resource allocation information according to the codebook comprises:

extracting a code corresponding to the terminal from a resource allocation bitmap included in the group message;

searching for the code inside the codebook; and

determining an MCS level and a resource size corresponding to the found code.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the wireless node comprises a base station, and

wherein the generating of the resource allocation information according to the codebook comprises:

allocating a resource to at least one terminal that has joined a group within a range of MCS levels and resource sizes included in the codebook;

searching for at least one code corresponding to a combination of at least one allocated MCS level and at least one allocated resource size; and

generating resource allocation information comprising the found at least one code.

The method of claim 12, further comprising transmitting a group message comprising at least one of a resource allocation bitmap, a user bitmap, group join indicate information, an MCS level set of a group, a burst size set of a group, an MCS set identifier of a group, and a burst size set identifier of a group.

The method of claim 13, wherein the searching for the at least one code comprises, when a terminal to which an offset value is applied exists among terminals that have joined the group, searching for a code according to a correspondence relation between a separate code and a resource size depending on the offset value with respect to the terminal to which the offset value is applied.

The method of claim 13, wherein the allocating of the resource within the range of the MCS levels and resource sizes included in the codebook comprises, when a terminal to which an offset value is applied exists among terminals that have joined the group, allocating a resource within a resource size range calculated from a burst size range to which the offset value has been added with respect to the terminal to which the offset value is applied.

16. An apparatus for operating a wireless node in a broadband wireless communication system, the apparatus comprising:

a controller for determining a Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) level set and a burst size set to generate a codebook, and for generating the codebook using the MCS level set and the burst size set; and

a message processor for generating or reading resource allocation information according to the codebook.

17. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the controller loads a codebook corresponding to the MCS level set and the burst size set of a plurality of codebooks defined in advance.

18. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the controller calculates resource sizes of combinations of MCS levels and burst sizes using the MCS level set and the burst size set, and then generates a codebook indicating the combinations.

The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the controller generates a table comprising all combinations of MCS levels and burst sizes, removes useless combinations where an MCS level difference does not have an influence on a resource size by removing the rest of the combinations excluding a combination having a lowest MCS level from combinations requiring the same resource size with respect to each burst size, and assigns codes to remaining respective effective combinations.

20. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein a length of each code comprises one of Ceil{log₂(the number of effective combinations)} and a value defined in advance.

21. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein the controller assigns codes to combinations starting from a combination having a lowest MCS level and a smallest burst size according to an ascending order.

22. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the wireless node comprises a terminal, and

wherein the message processor searches for a code included in the resource allocation information inside the codebook, and determines an MCS level and a resource size corresponding to the found code.

23. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the wireless node comprises a base station, and

the controller allocates a resource within a range of MCS levels and resource sizes included in the codebook, and

the message processor searches for a code corresponding to a combination of the allocated MCS level and the allocated resource size, and generates resource allocation information comprising the found code.

24. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the wireless node comprises a terminal, and

wherein the controller determines an MCS set identifier and a burst size set identifier included in a group configuration message received from a base station, and then determines an MCS level set corresponding to the MCS set identifier and a burst size set corresponding to the burst size set identifier among MCS level sets and burst size sets defined in advance.

25. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the wireless node comprises a terminal, and

wherein the controller obtains information of MCS level sets and burst size sets via a broadcasting message received from a base station, determines an MCS set identifier of a group and a burst size set identifier of the group included in a group configuration message received from the base station, and then determines an MCS level set corresponding to the MCS set identifier and a burst size set corresponding to the burst size set identifier among the MCS level sets and the burst size sets obtained via the broadcasting message.

26. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein the message processor extracts a code corresponding to the terminal from a resource allocation bitmap included in the group message, searches for the code inside the codebook, and determines an MCS level and a resource size corresponding to the found code.

27. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the wireless node comprises a base station, and

wherein the controller allocates a resource to at least one terminal that has joined a group within a range of MCS levels and resource sizes included in the codebook, searches for at least one code corresponding to a combination of at least one allocated MCS level and at least one allocated resource size, and generates resource allocation information comprising the found at least one code.

The apparatus of claim 27, further comprising a transmitter for transmitting a group message comprising at least one of a resource allocation bitmap, a user bitmap, group join indicate information, an MCS level set of a group, a burst size set of a group, an MCS set identifier of a group, and a burst size set identifier of a group.

The apparatus of claim 28, wherein when a terminal to which an offset value is applied exists among terminals that have joined the group, the message processor searches for a code according to a correspondence relation between a separate code and a resource size depending on the offset value with respect to the terminal to which the offset value is applied.

30. The apparatus of claim 28, wherein when a terminal to which an offset value is applied exists among terminals that have joined the group, the controller allocates a resource within a resource size range calculated from a burst size range to which the offset value has been added with respect to the terminal to which the offset value is applied.
