Abstract

Stent grafts are provided comprising an endoluminal stent and a graft, wherein the stent graft releases an agent which induces the in vivo adhesion of the stent graft to vessel walls, or, otherwise induces or accelerates an in vivo fibrotic reaction causing said stent graft to adhere to vessel wall. Also provided are methods for making and using such stent grafts.

Claims

1. A stent graft, comprising an endoluminal stent and a graft, the stent graft further comprising a material wherein the material induces or accelerates an in vivo fibrotic reaction at a tissue in the vicinity of the stent graft.

2. The stent graft of claim 1 wherein the stent graft releases the material.

3. The stent graft of claim 1 wherein the stent graft does not release the material.

4. The stent graft of claim 1 wherein the stent graft is tubular, cylindrical, or bifurcated.

5. The stent graft according to claim 1 wherein the stent graft is self-expandable or balloon-expandable.

6. The stent graft of claim 1 wherein the material is a vessel wall irritant.

7. The stent graft of claim 6 wherein the vessel wall irritant is selected from the group consisting of talcum powder, metallic beryllium, and silica.

8. The stent graft of claim 1 wherein the material comprises polylysine, ethylenevinylacetate, N-carboxybutyl chitosan, an inflammatory microcrystal, an inflammatory cytokine, or a component of extracellular matrix.

9. The stent graft of claim 1 wherein the material further comprises an adhesive.

10. The stent graft according to claim 1 wherein the material further comprises a textile.

11. The stent graft of claim 1 wherein the stent graft further comprising a coating that delays onset of the in vivo fibrotic reaction.

12. The stent graft of claim 1 wherein the stent graft is activated from a previously inactive stent graft to a stent graft that induces or accelerates an in vivo fibrotic reaction.

13. The stent graft of claim 1 wherein the material is first activated from a previously inactive material to a material active to induce or accelerate an in vivo fibrotic reaction.

14. A method for bypassing a diseased portion of a vessel of a patient, comprising delivering a stent graft to the diseased portion of the vessel wherein the stent graft comprises an endoluminal stent and a graft, the stent graft further comprising a material wherein the material induces or accelerates an in vivo fibrotic reaction at a tissue in the vicinity of the stent graft after delivery of the stent graft to the vessel.

15. The method of claim 14 wherein the stent graft releases the material.

16. The method of claim 14 wherein the stent graft does not release the material.

17. The method of claim 14 wherein the material is a vessel wall irritant.

18. The method of claim 14 wherein the material comprises polylysine, ethylenevinylacetate, N-carboxybutyl chitosan, an inflammatory microcrystal, an inflammatory cytokine, or a component of extracellular matrix.

19. The method of claim 14 wherein the material further comprises an adhesive.

20. A method for creating communication between a first blood vessel and a second blood vessel, comprising delivering to a patient a stent graft such that a passageway is created between the first blood vessel and the second blood vessel, wherein the stent graft comprises and endoluminal stent and a graft, the stent graft further comprising a material wherein the material induces or accelerates an in vivo fibrotic reaction at a tissue of the first blood vessel and a tissue of the second blood vessel in the vicinity of the stent graft after delivery of the stent graft.
